18 Zu derselben Stunde traten die Jünger zu Jesu und sprachen: Wer ist doch der Größte im Himmelreich?
2 Jesus rief ein Kind zu sich und stellte das mitten unter sie
3 und sprach: Wahrlich ich sage euch: Es sei denn, daß ihr umkehret und werdet wie die Kinder, so werdet ihr nicht ins Himmelreich kommen.
4 Wer nun sich selbst erniedrigt wie dies Kind, der ist der Größte im Himmelreich.
5 Und wer ein solches Kind aufnimmt in meinem Namen, der nimmt mich auf.
6 Wer aber ärgert dieser Geringsten einen, die an mich glauben, dem wäre es besser, daß ein Mühlstein an seinen Hals gehängt und er ersäuft werde im Meer, da es am tiefsten ist.
7 Weh der Welt der Ärgernisse halben! Es muß ja Ärgernis kommen; doch weh dem Menschen, durch welchen Ärgernis kommt!
8 So aber deine Hand oder dein Fuß dich ärgert, so haue ihn ab und wirf ihn von dir. Es ist besser, daß du zum Leben lahm oder als Krüppel eingehst, denn daß du zwei Hände oder zwei Füße hast und wirst in das höllische Feuer geworfen.
9 Und so dich dein Auge ärgert, reiß es aus und wirf's von dir. Es ist dir besser, daß du einäugig zum Leben eingehest, denn daß du zwei Augen habest und wirst in das höllische Feuer geworfen.
10 Sehet zu, daß ihr nicht jemand von diesen Kleinen verachtet. Denn ich sage euch: Ihre Engel im Himmel sehen allezeit in das Angesicht meines Vaters im Himmel.
11 Denn des Menschen Sohn ist gekommen, selig zu machen, das verloren ist.
12 Was dünkt euch? Wenn irgend ein Mensch hundert Schafe hätte und eins unter ihnen sich verirrte: läßt er nicht die neunundneunzig auf den Bergen, geht hin und sucht das verirrte?
13 Und so sich's begibt, daß er's findet, wahrlich ich sage euch, er freut sich darüber mehr denn über die neunundneunzig, die nicht verirrt sind.
14 Also auch ist's vor eurem Vater im Himmel nicht der Wille, daß jemand von diesen Kleinen verloren werde.
15 Sündigt aber dein Bruder an dir, so gehe hin und strafe ihn zwischen dir und ihm allein. Hört er dich, so hast du deinen Bruder gewonnen.
16 Hört er dich nicht, so nimm noch einen oder zwei zu dir, auf daß alle Sache bestehe auf zweier oder dreier Zeugen Mund.
17 Hört er die nicht, so sage es der Gemeinde. Hört er die Gemeinde nicht, so halt ihn als einen Zöllner oder Heiden.
18 Wahrlich ich sage euch: Was ihr auf Erden binden werdet, soll auch im Himmel gebunden sein, und was ihr auf Erden lösen werdet, soll auch im Himmel los sein.
19 Weiter sage ich euch: wo zwei unter euch eins werden, warum es ist, daß sie bitten wollen, das soll ihnen widerfahren von meinem Vater im Himmel.
20 Denn wo zwei oder drei versammelt sind in meinem Namen, da bin ich mitten unter ihnen.
21 Da trat Petrus zu ihm und sprach: HERR, wie oft muß ich denn meinem Bruder, der an mir sündigt, vergeben? Ist's genug siebenmal?
22 Jesus sprach zu ihm: Ich sage dir: Nicht siebenmal, sondern siebzigmal siebenmal.
23 Darum ist das Himmelreich gleich einem König, der mit seinen Knechten rechnen wollte.
24 Und als er anfing zu rechnen, kam ihm einer vor, der war ihm zehntausend Pfund schuldig.
25 Da er's nun nicht hatte, zu bezahlen, hieß der Herr verkaufen ihn und sein Weib und seine Kinder und alles, was er hatte, und bezahlen.
26 Da fiel der Knecht nieder und betete ihn an und sprach: Herr, habe Geduld mit mir, ich will dir's alles bezahlen.
27 Da jammerte den Herrn des Knechtes, und er ließ ihn los, und die Schuld erließ er ihm auch.
28 Da ging derselbe Knecht hinaus und fand einen seiner Mitknechte, der war ihm hundert Groschen schuldig; und er griff ihn an und würgte ihn und sprach: Bezahle mir, was du mir schuldig bist!
29 Da fiel sein Mitknecht nieder und bat ihn und sprach: Habe Geduld mit mir; ich will dir's alles bezahlen.
30 Er wollte aber nicht, sondern ging hin und warf ihn ins Gefängnis, bis daß er bezahlte, was er schuldig war.
31 Da aber seine Mitknechte solches sahen, wurden sie sehr betrübt und kamen und brachten vor ihren Herrn alles, was sich begeben hatte.
32 Da forderte ihn sein Herr vor sich und sprach zu ihm: Du Schalksknecht, alle diese Schuld habe ich dir erlassen, dieweil du mich batest;
33 solltest du denn dich nicht auch erbarmen über deinen Mitknecht, wie ich mich über dich erbarmt habe?
34 Und sein Herr ward sehr zornig und überantwortete ihn den Peinigern, bis daß er bezahlte alles, was er ihm schuldig war.
35 Also wird euch mein himmlischer Vater auch tun, so ihr nicht vergebt von eurem Herzen, ein jeglicher seinem Bruder seine Fehler.

18 Chiar în ceasul acela ucenicii au venit la Isus şi L-au întrebat:

2 Isus a chemat un copilaş, l-a pus să stea în mijlocul lor 3 şi le-a zis:
– Adevărat vă spun că, dacă nu vă schimbaţi şi nu deveniţi ca şi copilaşii, nu veţi intra niciodată în Împărăţia Cerurilor! 4 Prin urmare, oricine se smereşte ca acest copilaş este cel mai mare în Împărăţia Cerurilor. 5 Şi oricine primeşte un astfel de copilaş în Numele Meu, pe Mine Mă primeşte. 6 Dar dacă cineva îl face să păcătuiască pe vreunul dintre aceşti micuţi care cred în Mine, ar fi mai de folos pentru el să i se atârne de gât o piatră mare de moară şi să fie înecat în adâncul mării.
7 Vai de lumea aceasta, din cauza prilejurilor de păcătuire! Căci prilejurile de păcătuire vin în mod inevitabil, dar vai de omul acela prin care vine prilejul de păcătuire! 8 Dacă mâna sau piciorul tău te fac să păcătuieşti, taie-le şi aruncă-le! Este mai bine pentru tine să intri în viaţă ciung sau şchiop, decât să ai două mâini sau două picioare şi să fii aruncat în focul veşnic! 9 Şi dacă ochiul tău te face să păcătuieşti, scoate-l şi aruncă-l! Este mai bine pentru tine să intri în viaţă cu un singur ochi, decât să ai amândoi ochii şi să fii aruncat în focul Gheenei[a]!

10 Vedeţi să nu cumva să-l dispreţuiţi pe vreunul dintre aceşti micuţi, căci vă spun că îngerii lor din ceruri văd întotdeauna faţa Tatălui Meu, Care este în ceruri! 11 (Fiindcă Fiul Omului a venit să mântuiască ce era pierdut.)[b]
12 Ce părere aveţi? Dacă unui om care are o sută de oi i se rătăceşte una dintre ele, nu le lasă el oare pe celelalte nouăzeci şi nouă pe munţi şi se duce s-o caute pe cea rătăcită? 13 Şi dacă i se întâmplă să o găsească, adevărat vă spun că se bucură de ea mai mult decât de celelalte nouăzeci şi nouă, care nu s-au rătăcit! 14 Tot astfel, nu este voia Tatălui vostru din ceruri să piară vreunul dintre aceşti micuţi.
Dacă semenul tău păcătuieşte (împotriva ta)
15 Dacă fratele tău păcătuieşte (împotriva ta)[c], du-te şi mustră-l doar între tine şi el. Dacă te ascultă, l-ai câştigat pe fratele tău. 16 Dar dacă nu te ascultă, mai ia cu tine una sau două persoane, pentru ca „orice vorbă să fie susţinută pe baza mărturiei a doi sau trei martori”[d]. 17 Dacă nici de ei nu vrea să asculte, spune acest lucru bisericii[e]. Dar dacă nici de biserică nu vrea să asculte, atunci să fie pentru tine ca unul dintre neamuri[f] şi ca un colector de taxe.
18 Adevărat vă spun că orice veţi lega pe pământ va fi legat în cer şi orice veţi dezlega pe pământ va fi dezlegat în cer.[g]
19 Din nou, (adevărat)[h] vă spun că, dacă doi dintre voi se înţeleg pe pământ să ceară un lucru oarecare, le va fi dat de Tatăl Meu, Care este în ceruri. 20 Căci unde sunt adunaţi doi sau trei în Numele Meu, acolo, în mijlocul lor, sunt şi Eu!

21 Atunci Petru a venit la El şi L-a întrebat:
– Doamne, de câte ori să-l iert pe fratele meu când va păcătui faţă de mine? Până la şapte ori?
22 Isus i-a răspuns:
– Eu nu-ţi zic să-l ierţi până la şapte ori, ci până la şaptezeci de ori câte şapte[i].
23 De aceea, Împărăţia Cerurilor poate fi asemănată cu un împărat care a vrut să-şi pună în ordine socotelile cu sclavii săi. 24 Când a început să facă socotelile, a fost adus la el unul care-i datora zece mii de talanţi[j]. 25 Dar fiindcă nu avea cu ce să plătească, stăpânul a poruncit să fie vândut el, soţia lui, copiii lui şi tot ce avea, pentru a fi plătită datoria. 26 Sclavul a căzut la pământ, i s-a închinat şi i-a zis:
– Mai ai răbdare cu mine şi-ţi voi plăti tot!
27 Stăpânului acelui sclav i s-a făcut milă de el, aşa că l-a lăsat şi i-a iertat datoria.
28 După ce a ieşit afară, sclavul acela s-a întâlnit cu un confrate de-al său, care-i datora o sută de denari[k]. El l-a înşfăcat şi, în timp ce-l strângea de gât, i-a zis:
– Plăteşte ce-mi datorezi!
29 Atunci confratele său a căzut la pământ şi i-a zis:
– Mai ai răbdare cu mine şi-ţi voi plăti!
30 Dar el n-a vrut, ci s-a dus şi l-a aruncat în închisoare până va plăti ce este dator. 31 Când confraţii acestuia au văzut cele întâmplate, s-au întristat foarte tare. Ei s-au dus şi i-au povestit stăpânului lor tot ce se întâmplase.
32 Atunci stăpânul lui l-a chemat la el şi i-a zis:
– Sclav rău, eu ţi-am iertat ţie toată datoria aceea, pentru că m-ai rugat! 33 Nu trebuia oare să ai milă de confratele tău, aşa cum am avut milă şi eu de tine?
34 Stăpânul s-a mâniat şi l-a dat pe mâna celor care torturau, până va plăti tot ce este dator.
35 Tot aşa vă va face şi Tatăl Meu ceresc dacă nu-l iertaţi fiecare, din inimă, pe fratele vostru.

18 At that time the disciples came up and asked Jesus, Who then is [really] the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
2 And He called a little child to Himself and put him in the midst of them,
3 And said, Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn about) and become like little children [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving], you can never enter the kingdom of heaven [at all].
4 Whoever will humble himself therefore and become like this little child [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving] is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 And whoever receives and accepts and welcomes one little child like this for My sake and in My name receives and accepts and welcomes Me.
6 But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in and [a]acknowledge and cleave to Me to stumble and sin [that is, who entices him or hinders him in right conduct or thought], it would be better ([b]more expedient and profitable or advantageous) for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be sunk in the depth of the sea.
7 Woe to the world for such temptations to sin and influences to do wrong! It is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the person on whose account or by whom the temptation comes!
8 And if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble and sin, cut it off and throw it away from you; it is better (more profitable and wholesome) for you to enter life maimed or lame than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into everlasting fire.
9 And if your eye causes you to stumble and sin, pluck it out and throw it away from you; it is better (more profitable and wholesome) for you to enter life with only one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the hell (Gehenna) of fire.
10 Beware that you do not despise or feel scornful toward or think little of one of these little ones, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always are in the presence of and look upon the face of My Father Who is in heaven.
11 [c]For the Son of man came to save [[d]from the penalty of eternal death] that which was lost.
12 What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray and gets lost, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountain and go in search of the one that is lost?
13 And if it should be that he finds it, truly I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not get lost.
14 Just so it is not the will of My Father Who is in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost and perish.
15 If your brother wrongs you, go and show him his fault, between you and him privately. If he listens to you, you have won back your brother.
16 But if he does not listen, take along with you one or two others, so that every word may be confirmed and upheld by the testimony of two or three witnesses.
17 If he pays no attention to them [refusing to listen and obey], tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a pagan and a tax collector.(A)
18 Truly I tell you, whatever you forbid and declare to be improper and unlawful on earth must be [e]what is already forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit and declare proper and lawful on earth must be [f]what is already permitted in heaven.
19 Again I tell you, if two of you on earth agree (harmonize together, make a symphony together) about whatever [anything and [g]everything] they may ask, it will come to pass and be done for them by My Father in heaven.
20 For wherever two or three are gathered (drawn together as My followers) in (into) My name, there I Am in the midst of them.(B)
21 Then Peter came up to Him and said, Lord, how many times may my brother sin against me and I forgive him and [h]let it go? [As many as] up to seven times?
22 Jesus answered him, I tell you, not up to seven times, but seventy times seven!(C)
23 Therefore the kingdom of heaven is like a human king who wished to settle accounts with his attendants.
24 When he began the accounting, one was brought to him who owed him 10,000 talents [probably about $10,000,000],
25 And because he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and his children and everything that he possessed, and payment to be made.
26 So the attendant fell on his knees, begging him, Have patience with me and I will pay you everything.
27 And his master’s heart was moved with compassion, and he released him and forgave him [cancelling] the debt.
28 But that same attendant, as he went out, found one of his fellow attendants who owed him a hundred denarii [about twenty dollars]; and he caught him by the throat and said, Pay what you owe!
29 So his fellow attendant fell down and begged him earnestly, Give me time, and I will pay you all!
30 But he was unwilling, and he went out and had him put in prison till he should pay the debt.
31 When his fellow attendants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed, and they went and told everything that had taken place to their master.
32 Then his master called him and said to him, You contemptible and wicked attendant! I forgave and cancelled all that [great] debt of yours because you begged me to.
33 And should you not have had pity and mercy on your fellow attendant, as I had pity and mercy on you?
34 And in wrath his master turned him over to the torturers (the jailers), till he should pay all that he owed.
35 So also My heavenly Father will deal with every one of you if you do not freely forgive your brother from your heart his offenses.
