Jonas tecken
16 (A) Fariseerna och saddukeerna kom fram och ville pröva Jesus och bad honom visa dem ett tecken från himlen. 2 (B) Men han svarade dem[a]: "På kvällen säger ni: Det blir vackert väder, för himlen är röd. 3 Och på morgonen: I dag blir det oväder, för himlen är röd och mulen. Himlens utseende förstår ni att tyda, men tidernas tecken kan ni inte tyda. 4 Ett ont och trolöst släkte söker ett tecken, men det ska inte få något annat tecken än Jonas tecken[b]." Och han lämnade dem och gick sin väg.
Fariseernas och saddukeernas surdeg
5 (C) När lärjungarna kom över till andra sidan sjön hade de glömt att ta med sig bröd. 6 (D) Jesus sade till dem: "Akta er för fariseernas och saddukeernas surdeg!" 7 De sade till varandra: "Vi fick inte med oss något bröd."
8 Jesus märkte det och frågade: "Varför säger ni till varandra att ni inte har något bröd? Så lite tro ni har! 9 (E) Förstår ni fortfarande inte? Kommer ni inte ihåg de fem bröden till de fem tusen och hur många korgar ni fick? 10 (F) Eller de sju bröden till de fyra tusen och hur många korgar ni fick? 11 Varför förstår ni inte att det inte var bröd jag talade om? Akta er för fariseernas och saddukeernas surdeg." 12 Då förstod de att han inte talade om att akta sig för surdeg i bröd, utan för fariseernas och saddukeernas lära.
Petrus bekännelse
13 (G) När Jesus kom till trakten av Caesarea Filippi, frågade han sina lärjungar: "Vem säger människorna att Människosonen är?" 14 (H) De svarade: "Vissa säger Johannes Döparen, andra Elia och andra Jeremia eller någon av profeterna." 15 Han sade till dem: "Och ni? Vem säger ni att jag är?" 16 (I) Simon Petrus svarade: "Du är Messias, den levande Gudens Son."
17 (J) Jesus sade till honom: "Salig är du, Simon, Jonas son, för det är inte kött och blod som har uppenbarat det för dig, utan min Far i himlen. 18 Och jag säger dig: Du är Petrus, och på denna klippa[c] ska jag bygga min församling, och helvetets[d] portar ska inte få makt över den. 19 (K) Jag ska ge dig himmelrikets nycklar[e]. Allt som du binder på jorden ska vara bundet i himlen, och allt som du löser på jorden ska vara löst i himlen." 20 (L) Sedan befallde han lärjungarna att inte berätta för någon att han var Messias.
Jesus talar om sitt lidande
21 (M) Från den tiden började Jesus förklara för sina lärjungar att han måste gå till Jerusalem och lida mycket genom de äldste och översteprästerna och de skriftlärda, och att han måste bli dödad och på tredje dagen uppväckt.
22 Då tog Petrus honom åt sidan och började tillrättavisa honom: "Gud bevare dig, Herre! Det där ska aldrig hända dig." 23 (N) Men Jesus vände sig om och sade till Petrus: "Gå bort från mig[f], Satan! Du vill få mig på fall, för dina tankar är inte Guds utan människors."
I Jesu efterföljd
24 (O) Jesus sade till sina lärjungar: "Om någon vill följa mig, ska han förneka sig själv och ta sitt kors och följa mig. 25 (P) Den som vill rädda sitt liv ska mista det, men den som mister sitt liv för min skull ska vinna det. 26 För vad hjälper det en människa om hon vinner hela världen men förlorar sin själ? Eller vad kan en människa ge till lösen för sin själ? 27 (Q) Människosonen ska komma i sin Fars härlighet med sina änglar, och då ska han löna var och en efter hans gärningar.
Jesus visar sin härlighet
28 Jag säger er sanningen: Några av dem som står här ska inte smaka döden förrän de fått se Människosonen komma i sitt rike[g]."

16 Och fariséerna och sadducéerna kommo dit och ville sätta honom på prov; de begärde att han skulle låta dem se något tecken från himmelen.
2 Men han svarade och sade till dem: »Om aftonen sägen I: 'Det bliver klart väder, ty himmelen är röd',
3 och om morgonen: 'Det bliver oväder i dag, ty himmelen är mulen och röd.' Ja, om himmelens utseende förstån I att döma, men om tidernas tecken kunnen I icke döma.
4 Ett ont och trolöst släkte är detta! Det åstundar ett tecken, men intet annat tecken skall givas det än Jonas' tecken.» Och så lämnade han dem och gick sin väg.
5 När sedan lärjungarna foro åstad, över till andra stranden, hade de förgätit att taga med sig bröd.
6 Och Jesus sade till dem: »Sen till, att I tagen eder till vara för fariséernas och sadducéernas surdeg.»
7 Då talade de med varandra och sade: »Det är därför att vi icke hava tagit med oss bröd.»
8 Men när Jesus märkte detta, sade han: »I klentrogne, varför talen I eder emellan om att I icke haven bröd med eder?
9 Förstån I ännu ingenting? Och kommen I icke ihåg de fem bröden åt de fem tusen, och huru många korgar I då togen upp?
10 Ej heller de sju bröden åt de fyra tusen, och huru många korgar I då togen upp?
11 Huru kommer det då till, att I icke förstån att det ej var om bröd som jag talade till eder? Tagen eder till vara för fariséernas och sadducéernas surdeg.»
12 Då förstodo de att det icke var för surdeg i bröd som han hade bjudit dem att taga sig till vara, utan för fariséernas och sadducéernas lära.
13 Men när Jesus kom till trakten av Cesarea Filippi, frågade han sina lärjungar och sade: »Vem säger folket Människosonen vara?»
14 De svarade: »Somliga säga Johannes döparen, andra Elias, andra åter Jeremias eller en annan av profeterna.»
15 Då frågade han dem: »Vem sägen då I mig vara?»
16 Simon Petrus svarade och sade: »Du är Messias, den levande Gudens Son.»
17 Då svarade Jesus och sade till honom: »Salig är du, Simon, Jonas' son; ty kött och blod har icke uppenbarat detta för dig, utan min Fader, som är i himmelen.
18 Så säger ock jag dig att du är Petrus; och på denna klippa skall jag bygga min församling, och dödsrikets portar skola icke bliva henne övermäktiga.
19 Jag skall giva dig himmelrikets nycklar: allt vad du binder på jorden, det skall vara bundet i himmelen; och allt vad du löser på jorden, det skall vara löst i himmelen.»
20 Därefter förbjöd han lärjungarna att för någon säga att han var Messias.
21 Från den tiden begynte Jesus förklara för sina lärjungar, att han måste gå till Jerusalem och lida mycket av de äldste och översteprästerna och de skriftlärde, och att han skulle bliva dödad, men att han på tredje dagen skulle uppstå igen.
22 Då tog Petrus honom avsides och begynte ivrigt motsäga honom och sade: »Bevare dig Gud, Herre! Ingalunda får detta vederfaras dig.»
23 Men han vände sig om och sade till Petrus: »Gå bort, Satan, och stå mig icke i vägen; du är för mig en stötesten, ty dina tankar äro icke Guds tankar, utan människotankar.»
24 Därefter sade Jesus till sina lärjungar: »Om någon vill efterfölja mig, så försake han sig själv och tage sitt kors på sig: så följe han mig.
25 Ty den som vill bevara sitt liv, han skall mista det; men den som mister sitt liv, för min skull, han skall finna det.
26 Och vad hjälper det en människa, om hon vinner hela världen, men förlorar sin själ? Eller vad kan en människa giva till lösen för sin själ?
27 Människosonen skall komma i sin Faders härlighet med sina änglar, och då skall han vedergälla var och en efter hans gärningar.
28 Sannerligen säger jag eder: Bland dem som här stå finnas några som icke skola smaka döden, förrän de få se Människosonen komma i sitt rike.»

The Demand for a Sign(A)
16 The Pharisees and Sadducees(B) came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.(C)
2 He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ 3 and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.[a](D) 4 A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.”(E) Jesus then left them and went away.
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees
5 When they went across the lake, the disciples forgot to take bread. 6 “Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”(F)
7 They discussed this among themselves and said, “It is because we didn’t bring any bread.”
8 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith,(G) why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? 9 Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?(H) 10 Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?(I) 11 How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” 12 Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.(J)
Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah(K)
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;(L) others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”(M)
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”(N)
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood,(O) but by my Father in heaven.(P) 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[b](Q) and on this rock I will build my church,(R) and the gates of Hades[c] will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys(S) of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[d] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[e] loosed in heaven.”(T) 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone(U) that he was the Messiah.
Jesus Predicts His Death(V)
21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem(W) and suffer many things(X) at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,(Y) and that he must be killed(Z) and on the third day(AA) be raised to life.(AB)
22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”
23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan!(AC) You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(AD) 25 For whoever wants to save their life[f] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.(AE) 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 27 For the Son of Man(AF) is going to come(AG) in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.(AH)
28 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

La demanda de una señal(A)
16 Los fariseos y los saduceos se acercaron a Jesús para ponerlo a prueba, y le pidieron que les mostrara una señal(B) del cielo. 2 Pero él les dijo: «Al llegar la noche, ustedes dicen: “Va a hacer buen tiempo, porque el cielo está rojizo.” 3 Por la mañana, ustedes dicen: “Hoy habrá tempestad, porque el cielo está rojizo y nublado.” ¡Bien que saben distinguir el aspecto del cielo, pero no pueden distinguir las señales de los tiempos! 4 La generación mala y adúltera demanda una señal,(C) pero no recibirá más señal que la del profeta Jonás.»(D) Y los dejó y se fue.
La levadura de los fariseos(E)
5 Los discípulos llegaron al otro lado, pero se olvidaron de llevar pan. 6 En eso, Jesús les dijo: «Abran los ojos y cuídense de la levadura de los fariseos(F) y de los saduceos.» 7 Ellos comentaban entre sí: «Dice esto porque no trajimos pan.» 8 Pero Jesús se dio cuenta y les dijo: «Hombres de poca fe. ¿Por qué discuten entre ustedes que no tienen pan? 9 ¿Todavía no entienden, ni se acuerdan de los cinco panes entre cinco mil hombres,(G) y cuántas cestas recogieron? 10 ¿Ni de los siete panes entre cuatro mil,(H) y cuántas canastas recogieron? 11 ¿Cómo es que no entienden? Si les dije que se cuidaran de la levadura de los fariseos y de los saduceos, no fue por el pan.» 12 Entonces ellos entendieron que no les había dicho que se cuidaran de la levadura del pan, sino de las enseñanzas de los fariseos y de los saduceos.
La confesión de Pedro(I)
13 Al llegar a la región de Cesarea de Filipo, Jesús preguntó a sus discípulos: «¿Quién dice la gente que es el Hijo del Hombre?» 14 Ellos dijeron: «Unos dicen que es Juan el Bautista; otros, que es Elías; y otros, que es Jeremías o alguno de los profetas.»(J) 15 Él les preguntó: «Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy yo?» 16 Simón Pedro respondió: «¡Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente!»(K) 17 Entonces Jesús le dijo: «Bienaventurado eres, Simón, hijo de Jonás, porque no te lo reveló ningún mortal, sino mi Padre que está en los cielos. 18 Y yo te digo que tú eres Pedro,[a] y sobre esta roca[b] edificaré mi iglesia, y las puertas del Hades no podrán vencerla. 19 A ti te daré las llaves del reino de los cielos. Todo lo que ates en la tierra será atado en los cielos, y todo lo que desates en la tierra será desatado en los cielos.»(L) 20 Entonces mandó a sus discípulos que no dijeran a nadie que él era Jesús, el Cristo.
Jesús anuncia su muerte(M)
21 Desde entonces Jesús comenzó a explicar a sus discípulos que él debía ir a Jerusalén y padecer mucho a manos de los ancianos, de los principales sacerdotes y de los escribas, y morir, y resucitar al tercer día. 22 Pedro lo llevó aparte y comenzó a reconvenirlo: «Señor, ¡ten compasión de ti mismo! ¡Que esto jamás te suceda!» 23 Pero él se volvió y le dijo a Pedro: «¡Aléjate de mi vista, Satanás! ¡Me eres un tropiezo! ¡Tú no piensas en las cosas de Dios, sino en cuestiones humanas!»
24 A sus discípulos Jesús les dijo: «Si alguno quiere seguirme, niéguese a sí mismo, tome su cruz, y sígame.(N) 25 Porque todo el que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá; y todo el que pierda su vida por causa de mí, la hallará.(O) 26 Porque ¿de qué le sirve a uno ganarse todo el mundo, si pierde su alma? ¿O qué puede dar uno a cambio de su alma? 27 Porque el Hijo del Hombre vendrá en la gloria de su Padre con sus ángeles,(P) y entonces pagará a cada uno conforme a sus obras.(Q) 28 De cierto les digo que algunos de los que están aquí no morirán hasta que hayan visto al Hijo del Hombre venir en su reino.»

11 How is it that ye do not understand that I spake it not to you concerning bread, that ye should beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees?
12 Then understood they how that he bade them not beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.
21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.
22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.
23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
