6 När ni utövar er rättfärdighet, se då till att ni inte gör det för att människor ska lägga märke till er, för annars har ni ingen lön att vänta från er Fader i himlen. 2 När du ger en gåva till en nödlidande, ropa då inte ut det till andra. Var inte som hycklarna som basunerar ut sina goda gärningar i synagogorna och på gatorna för att få beröm! Sannerligen säger jag er att de redan har fått ut sin lön. 3 Nej, om du hjälper någon, så ska inte din vänstra hand veta vad den högra gör. 4 Ge din hjälp i det fördolda. Då kommer din Fader, som ser allt, att belöna dig.
Om bön
(Mark 11:25; Luk 11:2-4)
5 När ni ber, ska ni inte visa upp er för andra som hycklarna gör. De älskar att be offentligt i gathörnen och i synagogorna där alla kan se dem. Sannerligen säger jag er att de redan har fått ut sin lön. 6 Nej, när du ber, gå då istället in i ditt rum och stäng dörren om dig. Låt din bön vara en hemlighet mellan dig och din Fader i himlen. Han vet allt och ska belöna dig.
7 Rabbla inte upp tomma ord, som hedningarna gör. De tror att bönen har större chans att bli besvarad om de använder många ord. 8 Var inte som de, för er Fader vet vad ni behöver, innan ni ens ber honom om det.
9 Be istället så här:
Vår Fader i himlen,
låt ditt namn bli helgat.
10 Låt ditt rike komma och din vilja ske
här på jorden så som den sker i himlen.
11 Ge oss idag den mat[a] vi behöver,
12 och förlåt oss våra skulder,
liksom vi förlåter dem som står i skuld till oss.
13 Hjälp oss när vi prövas[b],
och rädda oss från det onda.[c]
14 För om ni förlåter dem som har gjort fel mot er, ska er Fader i himlen också förlåta er. 15 Men om ni inte förlåter andra deras överträdelser, kommer han inte att förlåta er era.
Om fasta
16 När ni fastar[d], visa då inte upp er för andra som hycklare som ser dystra och ovårdade ut bara för att folk ska lägga märke till att de fastar. Sannerligen säger jag er att de redan har fått ut sin lön. 17 Nej, när du fastar ska du sköta om ditt hår och tvätta dig som vanligt. 18 Låt fastan vara en hemlighet mellan dig och din Fader i himlen. Han vet allt och ska belöna dig.
Skatter i himlen
(Luk 11:34-36; 12:33-34; 16:13)
19 Samla inte skatter här på jorden, där de förstörs av mal och mask och lätt kan bli stulna av inbrottstjuvar. 20 Samla skatter i himlen, där varken mask eller mal förstör och där de är säkra för tjuvar. 21 För där din skatt finns, där kommer också ditt hjärta att vara.
22 Ögat är kroppens lampa. Om ditt öga är friskt, så får hela din kropp ljus. 23 Men om ditt öga är dåligt, så blir det mörkt i hela din kropp. Om det ljus du tror dig ha i själva verket är mörker, då är ditt mörker verkligen nattsvart.[e]
24 Ingen kan tjäna två herrar, för antingen kommer han att hata den förste och älska den andre, eller att hålla sig till den ene och inte bry sig om den andre. Ni kan inte tjäna Gud och mammon[f] samtidigt.
Om att oroa sig
25 Därför säger jag er: oroa er inte för hur ni ska klara livet, hur ni ska få mat och dryck eller kläder att ta på er. Nog är livet mer än maten och kroppen mer än kläderna? 26 Se på himlens fåglar! De varken sår eller skördar eller samlar i lador, men er Fader i himlen ger dem mat ändå. Är ni inte mycket mer värda än fåglarna? 27 Vem av er kan med sina bekymmer förlänga sitt liv med en enda timma?
28 Och varför oroar ni er för kläder? Lägg märke till liljorna på ängen hur de växer! De arbetar inte och spinner inte. 29 Ändå säger jag er, att inte ens Salomo i all sin prakt var så klädd som de. 30 Men om Gud nu ger sådana kläder åt gräset, som idag står på ängen och imorgon kastas på elden, skulle han då inte ordna kläder åt er? Så lite tro ni har!
31 Oroa er alltså inte för vad ni ska äta och dricka, eller för vad ni ska ta på er. 32 För sådant jagar all världens folk efter. Er Fader i himlen vet att ni behöver allt detta. 33 Sök först Guds rike och hans rättfärdighet, så får ni allt det övriga också.
34 Oroa er alltså inte för morgondagen, utan lös problemen den dag de dyker upp. En dags bekymmer räcker mer än väl.

6 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
16 Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
17 But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
18 That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:
29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

6 Cuidad de no practicar vuestra justicia delante de los hombres para ser vistos por ellos(A); de otra manera no tendréis recompensa de vuestro Padre que está en los cielos.
Las ofrendas
2 Por eso, cuando des limosna[a], no toques trompeta delante de ti, como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles, para ser alabados por los hombres(B). En verdad os digo que ya han recibido su recompensa(C). 3 Pero tú, cuando des limosna, que no sepa tu mano izquierda lo que hace tu derecha, 4 para que tu limosna[b] sea en secreto; y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te recompensará[c](D).
La oración
5 Y cuando oréis, no seáis como los hipócritas; porque a ellos les gusta ponerse en pie y orar en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las calles(E), para ser vistos por los hombres[d](F). En verdad os digo que ya han recibido su recompensa(G). 6 Pero tú, cuando ores, entra en tu aposento, y cuando hayas cerrado la puerta(H), ora a tu Padre que está en secreto, y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te recompensará(I). 7 Y al orar, no uséis repeticiones sin sentido, como los gentiles, porque ellos se imaginan que serán oídos por su palabrería(J). 8 Por tanto, no os hagáis semejantes a ellos; porque vuestro Padre sabe lo que necesitáis antes que vosotros le pidáis(K).
El Padre nuestro
9 (L)Vosotros, pues, orad de esta manera:
«Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos,
santificado sea tu nombre.
10 Venga tu reino(M).
Hágase tu voluntad(N),
así en la tierra como en el cielo.
11 Danos hoy el pan nuestro de cada día[e](O).
12 Y perdónanos nuestras deudas[f], como también nosotros hemos perdonado a nuestros deudores(P).
13 Y no nos metas en tentación, mas líbranos del mal[g](Q). Porque tuyo es el reino y el poder y la gloria para siempre jamás. Amén[h]».
14 Porque si perdonáis a los hombres sus transgresiones, también vuestro Padre celestial os perdonará a vosotros(R). 15 Pero si no perdonáis a los hombres, tampoco vuestro Padre perdonará vuestras transgresiones(S).
El ayuno
16 Y cuando ayunéis(T), no pongáis cara triste, como los hipócritas; porque ellos desfiguran[i] sus rostros para mostrar a los hombres que están ayunando. En verdad os digo que ya han recibido su recompensa(U). 17 Pero tú, cuando ayunes, unge tu cabeza y lava tu rostro(V), 18 para no hacer ver[j] a los hombres que ayunas, sino a tu Padre que está en secreto; y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te recompensará(W).
El verdadero tesoro
19 No os acumuléis tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y la herrumbre destruyen, y donde ladrones penetran[k] y roban(X); 20 sino acumulaos tesoros en el cielo(Y), donde ni la polilla ni la herrumbre destruyen, y donde ladrones no penetran ni roban; 21 porque donde esté tu[l] tesoro(Z), allí estará también tu[m] corazón. 22 (AA)La lámpara del cuerpo es el ojo; por eso, si tu ojo está sano[n], todo tu cuerpo estará lleno de luz. 23 Pero si tu ojo está malo(AB), todo tu cuerpo estará lleno de oscuridad. Así que, si la luz que hay en ti es oscuridad, ¡cuán grande será la oscuridad! 24 Nadie puede servir a dos señores(AC); porque o aborrecerá a uno y amará al otro, o se apegará a uno y despreciará al otro. No podéis servir a Dios y a las riquezas[o](AD). 25 (AE)Por eso os digo, no os preocupéis por vuestra vida(AF), qué comeréis o qué beberéis; ni por vuestro cuerpo, qué vestiréis. ¿No es la vida más que el alimento y el cuerpo más que la ropa? 26 Mirad las aves del cielo, que no siembran, ni siegan, ni recogen en graneros, y sin embargo, vuestro Padre celestial las alimenta(AG). ¿No sois vosotros de mucho más valor que ellas? 27 ¿Y quién de vosotros, por ansioso(AH) que esté, puede añadir una hora[p] al curso de su vida[q](AI)? 28 Y por la ropa, ¿por qué os preocupáis(AJ)? Observad cómo crecen los lirios del campo; no trabajan, ni hilan; 29 pero os digo que ni Salomón(AK) en toda su gloria se vistió como uno de estos. 30 Y si Dios viste así la hierba del campo, que hoy es y mañana es echada al horno, ¿no hará mucho más por vosotros, hombres de poca fe(AL)? 31 Por tanto, no os preocupéis(AM), diciendo: «¿Qué comeremos?» o «¿qué beberemos?» o «¿con qué nos vestiremos?». 32 Porque los gentiles buscan ansiosamente todas estas cosas; que vuestro Padre celestial(AN) sabe que necesitáis de todas estas cosas. 33 Pero buscad[r] primero su[s] reino[t] y su justicia, y todas estas cosas os serán añadidas[u](AO). 34 Por tanto, no os preocupéis(AP) por el día de mañana; porque el día de mañana se cuidará[v] de sí mismo. Giving to the Needy
6 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them.(A) If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.(B)
Prayer(C)
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing(D) in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father,(E) who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling(F) like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words.(G) 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need(H) before you ask him.
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father(I) in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom(J) come,

Fasting
16 “When you fast,(R) do not look somber(S) as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.(T)
Treasures in Heaven(U)
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth,(V) where moths and vermin destroy,(W) and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven,(X) where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.(Y) 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.(Z)
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[c] your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy,[d] your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.(AA)
Do Not Worry(AB)
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry(AC) about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.(AD) Are you not much more valuable than they?(AE) 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?(AF)
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor(AG) was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?(AH) 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.(AI) 33 But seek first his kingdom(AJ) and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.(AK) 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
