Planer på att döda Jesus
(Mark 14:1-2; Luk 22:1-2; Joh 11:45-53)
26 När Jesus hade avslutat hela detta tal sa han till sina lärjungar: 2 ”Som ni vet börjar påskhögtiden[a] om två dagar. Då ska Människosonen bli utlämnad och korsfäst.”
3 Under tiden samlades översteprästerna och folkets ledare i översteprästen Kajafas palats 4 för att diskutera hur man i hemlighet skulle kunna arrestera Jesus och döda honom. 5 ”Men”, sa de till varandra, ”inte under själva påskhögtiden, för det kan leda till upplopp.”
En kvinna smörjer Jesus med dyrbar olja
(Mark 14:3-9; Luk 7:37-38; Joh 12:1-8)
6 Jesus var en dag i Betania hos Simon, den spetälske. 7 Och medan de åt där tillsammans, kom en kvinna fram till Jesus med en alabasterflaska dyrbar olja, som hon hällde över hans huvud när han låg till bords.
8 Lärjungarna blev upprörda och sa: ”Vilket slöseri! 9 Oljan kunde man ju ha sålt och fått mycket pengar att ge till de fattiga.”
10 Men Jesus märkte det och sa: ”Varför kritiserar ni henne? Hon har gjort en god gärning mot mig. 11 De fattiga kommer ni alltid att ha ibland er, men mig kommer ni inte alltid att ha hos er. 12 Genom att hälla den här oljan över mig har hon förberett min begravning. 13 Sannerligen säger jag er: överallt i världen där man förkunnar detta evangelium ska man också berätta om det hon nyss gjorde och komma ihåg henne.”
Judas beslutar att förråda Jesus
(Mark 14:10-11; Luk 22:3-6)
14 Då gick Judas Iskariot, en av de tolv, till översteprästerna 15 och frågade: ”Hur mycket betalar ni mig om jag förråder honom?” De gav honom då trettio silvermynt, 16 och från den stunden sökte Judas efter ett lämpligt tillfälle att förråda Jesus.
Jesus lärjungar förbereder påskmåltiden
(Mark 14:12-16; Luk 22:7-13)
17 På första dagen av det osyrade brödets högtid[b] kom lärjungarna till Jesus och frågade: ”Var vill du att vi ska ordna så att du kan äta påskmåltiden?”
18 Jesus svarade: ”Gå in i Jerusalem och sök upp en viss man och säg till honom: ’Vår Mästare säger: Min tid närmar sig. Nu vill jag äta påskmåltiden i ditt hus tillsammans med mina lärjungar.’ ” 19 Hans lärjungar gjorde då som han hade sagt, och de ordnade sedan med påskmåltiden.
Jesus och hans lärjungar äter den sista måltiden
(Mark 14:17-25; Luk 22:17-23; 1 Kor 11:23-25)
20 När kvällen kom slog sig Jesus och de tolv ner vid bordet. 21 Och medan de åt sa han: ”Sannerligen säger jag er: en av er kommer att förråda mig.” 22 Då blev de mycket bedrövade, och en efter en frågade de: ”Det är väl inte jag, Herre?”
23 Han svarade: ”Den som doppade sitt bröd i fatet tillsammans med mig, han är det.[c] 24 För Människosonen går bort, som det står skrivet om honom. Men ve den människa som förråder Människosonen! Det hade varit bättre för den människan att aldrig ha blivit född.”
25 Då frågade Judas, han som skulle förråda honom: ”Rabbi[d], det är väl inte mig du menar?” Jesus svarade: ”Du har självt sagt det.”
26 Medan de åt tog Jesus ett bröd, och när han hade tackat Gud för det, bröt han det och gav det till sina lärjungar och sa: ”Ta detta och ät, för det är min kropp.” 27 Sedan tog han en bägare och tackade Gud och gav den till dem och sa: ”Drick av det allihop, 28 för detta är mitt blod, förbundsblodet, som ska utgjutas för många till syndernas förlåtelse. 29 Jag säger er, att från och med nu ska jag inte dricka av det som vinstocken ger, förrän jag dricker det nya vinet med er i min Faders rike.”
Jesus förutsäger att Petrus ska svika honom
(Mark 14:26-31; Luk 22:33-34; Joh 13:37-38)
30 När de till sist hade sjungit lovsången[e] tillsammans, gick de ut till Olivberget.
31 Där sa Jesus till dem: ”I natt kommer ni alla på fall för min skull, för det står skrivet:
’Jag ska slå herden,
så att fåren i hjorden skingras.’[f]
32 Men när jag har uppstått från de döda, ska jag gå före er till Galileen.”
33 Petrus svarade: ”Även om alla andra kommer på fall, så ska jag aldrig göra det!” 34 Men Jesus sa till honom: ”Sannerligen säger jag dig: redan i natt, innan tuppen hinner gala, ska du tre gånger ha förnekat mig.”
35 Då sa Petrus: ”Om jag så måste dö med dig, ska jag aldrig förneka dig!” Och alla de andra lärjungarna sa samma sak.
Jesus ber i Getsemane
(Mark 14:32-42; Luk 22:39-46)
36 Sedan gick Jesus med sina lärjungar till ett ställe som kallas Getsemane, och där sa han till dem: ”Sätt er här medan jag går bort en bit och ber.” 37 Han tog med sig Petrus och Sebedaios båda söner.
Jesus greps nu av sorg och ångest, 38 och han sa till dem: ”Jag är djupt bedrövad, ända till döds. Stanna kvar här och vaka tillsammans med mig.” 39 Sedan gick han lite längre bort och föll ner på sitt ansikte och bad: ”Min Fader, om det är möjligt, så låt mig slippa denna bägare[g]. Men låt det bli som du vill, inte som jag vill.”
40 Sedan kom han tillbaka till sina lärjungar och hittade dem sovande. Han sa till Petrus: ”Klarade ni inte att hålla er vakna med mig en enda timma? 41 Vaka och be, så att ni inte faller för frestelsen. Anden är villig, men kroppen är svag.”
42 Så lämnade han dem och bad samma bön för andra gången: ”Fader i himlen, om det inte är möjligt att slippa denna bägare, utan jag måste tömma den, så låt din vilja ske.” 43 Men när han kom tillbaka, fann han dem åter sovande. De kunde inte hålla ögonen öppna. 44 Han lämnade dem därför och bad för tredje gången med samma ord.
45 Sedan gick han tillbaka till sina lärjungar och sa: ”Ja, ni sover och vilar er fortfarande. Men nu är stunden inne då Människosonen ska överlämnas i syndarnas händer. 46 Res er upp, så går vi härifrån! Här kommer han som ska förråda mig.”
Jesus blir förrådd och arresterad
(Mark 14:43-50; Luk 22:47-53; Joh 18:3-11)
47 Medan Jesus fortfarande talade kom Judas, en av de tolv, tillsammans med en stor folkhop beväpnad med svärd och klubbor. De var utsända av översteprästerna och folkets ledare. 48 Förrädaren hade kommit överens med dem om ett tecken och sagt: ”Den man som jag hälsar med en kyss är det, honom ska ni gripa.” 49 Judas gick direkt till Jesus och sa: ”Var hälsad, Rabbi!” och kysste honom.
50 Jesus svarade: ”Min vän, gör det du har kommit hit för att göra.” Och genast gick de andra fram och grep Jesus och höll fast honom.
51 En av de män som var med Jesus drog då sitt svärd och högg örat av översteprästens tjänare. 52 Men Jesus sa till honom: ”Stoppa tillbaka svärdet! De som använder svärd, kommer själva att falla för svärd. 53 Inser du inte att jag skulle kunna be min Fader att skicka mer än tolv arméer med änglar för att hjälpa mig, och att han genast skulle göra det? 54 Men hur skulle det då gå i uppfyllelse som förutsagts i Skriften, att allt detta måste hända?”
55 Sedan vände sig Jesus till folkhopen och sa: ”Som mot en farlig brottsling har ni kommit med svärd och klubbor för att gripa mig! Varje dag satt jag i templet och undervisade utan att ni grep mig. 56 Men allt detta har hänt för att profeternas skrifter ska gå i uppfyllelse.[h]”
I samma stund övergav alla hans lärjungar honom och flydde.
Jesus förhörs av det judiska rådet
(Mark 14:53-65; Luk 22:54-55; 22:63-71; Joh 18:12-13; 18:19-24)
57 De som hade arresterat Jesus förde honom nu till översteprästen Kajafas, där de skriftlärda och folkets ledare hade samlats. 58 Petrus följde efter på avstånd, ända in på gården till översteprästens palats. Där slog han sig sedan ner bland tjänarna för att se vad som skulle hända.
59 Översteprästerna och hela det judiska rådet[i] försökte hitta falska vittnesberättelser som skulle räcka för att döma Jesus till döden. 60 Men de hittade inga, trots att det fanns många som var villiga att vittna falskt.
Till slut kom två 61 som sa: ”Vi har hört den här mannen säga: ’Jag kan riva ner Guds tempel och bygga upp det igen på tre dagar.’ ”
62 Då reste sig översteprästen och sa till Jesus: ”Svarar du inte på vad de vittnar mot dig?” 63 Men Jesus teg.
Då sa översteprästen: ”Inför den Gud som lever besvär jag dig att du talar om för oss om du är Messias, Guds Son.”
64 Jesus svarade: ”Det är du själv som kallar mig det. Men jag säger er, att efter detta ska ni få se Människosonen sitta på Maktens högra sida och komma på himlens moln.[j]”
65 Då slet översteprästen sönder sina kläder och ropade: ”Han har hädat! Vi behöver väl inga fler vittnen! Ni har själva hört hädelsen. 66 Vad anser ni?” De ropade tillbaka: ”Han förtjänar döden!”
67 Sedan spottade de Jesus i ansiktet och slog honom med knytnävarna. Några gav honom också örfilar 68 och sa: ”Du som är Messias, visa nu att du är en profet! Avslöja vem som slog dig.”
Petrus förnekar att han känner Jesus
(Mark 14:66-72; Luk 22:54-62; Joh 18:16-18; 18:25-27)
69 Under tiden satt Petrus ute på gården. En tjänsteflicka kom då fram till honom och sa: ”Du var väl också tillsammans med den där Jesus från Galileen!” 70 Men Petrus nekade inför alla och sa: ”Jag vet inte ens vad du pratar om.”
71 Sedan gick han ut i porten, och där fick en annan tjänsteflicka syn på honom. ”Den här mannen var tillsammans med Jesus från Nasaret”, sa hon till dem som stod runt omkring. 72 Men Petrus nekade igen, ja, han till och med svor på det: ”Jag känner inte den där mannen!”
73 Efter en stund kom de som stod där fram till honom och sa: ”Visst är du en av dem. Det hörs på din dialekt.” 74 Petrus svor då igen och bedyrade: ”Jag känner inte den mannen.” Och i samma stund gol tuppen.
75 Då kom Petrus ihåg vad Jesus hade sagt: ”Innan tuppen gal ska du förneka mig tre gånger.” Och han gick ut och grät bittert.

谋害耶稣

耶稣受膏
6 当耶稣在伯大尼患过麻风病的西门家里时， 7 有个女子趁着祂坐席的时候，把一瓶珍贵的香膏倒在祂头上。
8 门徒看见后，生气地说：“真浪费， 9 这瓶香膏值不少钱，用来周济穷人多好！”
10 耶稣看出他们的心思，便说：“何必为难这女子？她在我身上做的是一件美事。 11 因为你们身边总会有穷人，可是你们身边不会总有我。 12 她把香膏浇在我身上是为我的安葬做准备。 13 我实在告诉你们，无论福音传到世界哪个角落，人们都会传扬这女人的事迹，纪念她。”
犹大出卖耶稣
14 后来，十二门徒中的加略人犹大去见祭司长，说： 15 “如果我把耶稣交给你们，你们肯出多少钱？”他们就给了他三十块银子。 16 从那时起，犹大就寻找机会出卖耶稣。
最后的晚餐
17 除酵节的第一天，门徒来问耶稣说：“我们该在什么地方为你准备逾越节的晚餐呢？”
18 耶稣说：“你们进城去，到某人那里对他说，‘老师说祂的时候到了，祂要与门徒在你家中过逾越节。’” 19 门徒照耶稣的吩咐准备了逾越节的晚餐。
20 傍晚，耶稣和十二个门徒吃晚餐。 21 席间，耶稣说：“我实在告诉你们，你们中间有一个人要出卖我。”
22 他们都非常忧愁，相继追问耶稣，说：“主啊，肯定不是我吧？”
23 祂说：“那和我一同在盘子里蘸饼吃的就是要出卖我的人。 24 人子一定会受害，正如圣经上有关祂的记载，但出卖人子的人有祸了，他还不如不生在这世上！”
25 出卖耶稣的犹大问祂：“老师，是我吗？”
耶稣说：“你自己说了。”
26 他们吃的时候，耶稣拿起饼来，祝谢后掰开分给门徒，说：“拿去吃吧，这是我的身体。”
27 接着又拿起杯来，祝谢后递给门徒，说：“你们都喝吧， 28 这是我为万人所流的立约之血，为了使罪得到赦免。 29 我告诉你们，从今天起，一直到我在我父的国与你们共饮新酒的那一天之前，我不会再喝这葡萄酒。” 30 他们唱完诗歌，就出门去了橄榄山。
预言彼得不认主
31 耶稣对门徒说：“今天晚上，你们都要离弃我。因为圣经上说，‘我要击打牧人，羊群将四散。’ 32 但我复活后，要先你们一步去加利利。”
33 彼得说：“即使所有的人都离弃你，我也永远不会离弃你！”
34 耶稣说：“我实在告诉你，今夜鸡叫以前，你会三次不认我。”
35 彼得说：“就算要我跟你一起死，我也不会不认你！”其余的门徒也都这样说。
在客西马尼祷告
36 耶稣和门徒到了一个叫客西马尼的地方，祂对门徒说：“你们坐在这里，我到那边去祷告。” 37 祂带了彼得和西庇太的两个儿子一起去。祂心里非常忧伤痛苦， 38 就对他们说：“我心里非常忧伤，几乎要死，你们留在这里跟我一起警醒。”
39 祂稍往前走，俯伏在地上祷告：“我父啊！如果可以，求你撤去此杯。然而，愿你的旨意成就，而非我的意愿。”
40 耶稣回到三个门徒那里，见他们都睡着了，就对彼得说：“难道你们不能跟我一同警醒一时吗？ 41 你们要警醒祷告，免得陷入诱惑。你们的心灵虽然愿意，肉体却很软弱。”
42 祂第二次去祷告说：“我父啊！如果我非喝此杯不可，愿你的旨意成就。” 43 祂回来时见他们又睡着了，因为他们困得眼皮发沉。 44 耶稣再次离开他们，第三次去祷告，说的是同样的话。
45 然后，祂回到门徒那里，对他们说：“你们还在睡觉，还在休息吗？看啊！时候到了，人子要被出卖，交在罪人手里了。 46 起来，我们走吧。看，出卖我的人已经来了！”
耶稣被捕
47 耶稣还在说话的时候，十二门徒中的犹大来了，随行的还有祭司长和民间长老派来的一大群拿着刀棍的人。 48 出卖耶稣的犹大预先和他们定了暗号，说：“我亲吻谁，谁就是耶稣，你们把祂抓起来。” 49 犹大随即走到耶稣跟前，说：“老师，你好。”然后亲吻耶稣。
50 耶稣对他说：“朋友，你要做的事，快动手吧。”于是那些人上前，下手捉拿耶稣。 51 耶稣的跟随者中有人伸手拔出佩刀朝大祭司的奴仆砍去，削掉了他一只耳朵。
52 耶稣对他说：“收刀入鞘吧！因为动刀的必死在刀下。 53 难道你不知道，我可以请求我父马上派十二营以上的天使来保护我吗？ 54 我若这样做，圣经上有关这事必如此发生的话又怎能应验呢？”
55 那时，耶稣对众人说：“你们像对付强盗一样拿着刀棍来抓我吗？我天天在圣殿里教导人，你们并没有来抓我。 56 不过这一切事的发生，是要应验先知书上的话。”那时，门徒都丢下祂逃走了。
大祭司审问耶稣
57 捉拿耶稣的人把祂押到大祭司该亚法那里。律法教师和长老已聚集在那里。 58 彼得远远地跟着耶稣，一直跟到大祭司的院子里。他坐在卫兵当中，想知道事情的结果。
59 祭司长和全公会的人正在寻找假证据来控告耶稣，好定祂死罪。 60 虽然有很多假证人诬告祂，但都找不到真凭实据。最后有两个人上前高声说：
61 “这个人曾经说过，‘我能拆毁圣殿，三天内把它重建起来。’”
62 大祭司站起来质问耶稣：“你不回答吗？这些人作证控告你的是什么呢？” 63 耶稣还是沉默不语。
大祭司又对祂说：“我奉永活上帝的名命令你起誓告诉我们，你是不是上帝的儿子基督？”
64 耶稣说：“如你所言。但我告诉你们，将来你们要看见人子坐在大能者的右边，驾着天上的云降临。”
65 大祭司撕裂衣服，说：“祂亵渎了上帝！我们还需要什么证人呢？你们现在亲耳听见了祂说亵渎的话， 66 你们看怎么办？”
他们回应说：“祂该死！”
67 他们就吐唾沫在祂脸上，挥拳打祂。还有人一边打祂耳光，一边说： 68 “基督啊！给我们说预言吧，是谁在打你？”
彼得三次不认主
69 当时，彼得还坐在外面的院子里，有一个婢女走过来对他说：“你也是跟那个加利利人耶稣一伙的。”
70 彼得却当众否认：“我不知道你在说什么。”
71 正当他走到门口要离开时，另一个婢女看见他，就对旁边的人说：“这个人是跟拿撒勒人耶稣一伙的！”
72 彼得再次否认，并发誓说：“我不认识那个人。” 73 过了一会儿，旁边站着的人过来对彼得说：“你肯定也是他们一伙的，听你的口音就知道了。”
74 彼得又赌咒又发誓，说：“我不认识那个人！”就在这时候，鸡叫了。 75 彼得想起耶稣说的话：“在鸡叫以前，你会三次不认我。”他就跑出去，失声痛哭。

The Plot to Kill Jesus
26 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples,(A) 2 “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.”(B)
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people gathered in the courtyard of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,(C) 4 and they conspired to arrest Jesus by stealth and kill him.(D) 5 But they said, “Not during the festival, or there may be a riot among the people.”(E)
The Anointing at Bethany
6 Now while Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[a](F) 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very costly ointment, and she poured it on his head as he sat at the table. 8 But when the disciples saw it, they were angry and said, “Why this waste? 9 For this ointment could have been sold for a large sum and the money given to the poor.” 10 But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? She has performed a good service for me. 11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me.(G) 12 By pouring this ointment on my body she has prepared me for burial.(H) 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this good news[b] is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in remembrance of her.”
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
14 Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What will you give me if I betray him to you?” They paid him thirty pieces of silver.(I) 16 And from that moment he began to look for an opportunity to betray him.
The Passover with the Disciples
17 On the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where do you want us to make the preparations for you to eat the Passover?” 18 He said, “Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, My time is near; I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.’ ”(J) 19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the Passover meal.(K)
20 When it was evening, he took his place with the twelve disciples,[c] 21 and while they were eating he said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.” 22 And they became greatly distressed and began to say to him one after another, “Surely not I, Lord?” 23 He answered, “The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me.(L) 24 The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that one by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that one not to have been born.” 25 Judas, who betrayed him, said, “Surely not I, Rabbi?” He replied, “You have said so.”
The Institution of the Lord’s Supper
26 While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it[d] he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.”(M) 27 Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you, 28 for this is my blood of the[e] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.(N) 29 I tell you, I will never again drink of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”(O)
30 When they had sung the hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.(P)
Peter’s Denial Foretold
31 Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away[f] because of me this night, for it is written,
‘I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’(Q)
32 “But after I am raised up, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.”(R) 33 Peter said to him, “Even if all fall away[g] because of you, I will never fall away.”[h] 34 Jesus said to him, “Truly I tell you, this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.”(S) 35 Peter said to him, “Even though I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And so said all the disciples.(T)
Jesus Prays in Gethsemane
36 Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be grieved and agitated.(U) 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, even to death; remain here, and stay awake with me.”(V) 39 And going a little farther, he threw himself on the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me, yet not what I want but what you want.”(W) 40 Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and he said to Peter, “So, could you not stay awake with me one hour?(X) 41 Stay awake and pray that you may not come into the time of trial;[i] the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”(Y) 42 Again he went away for the second time and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.”(Z) 43 Again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy. 44 So leaving them again, he went away and prayed for the third time, saying the same words. 45 Then he came to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? Now the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.(AA) 46 Get up, let us be going. Look, my betrayer is at hand.”
The Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus
47 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the twelve, arrived; with him was a large crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man; arrest him.” 49 At once he came up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him.(AB) 50 Jesus said to him, “Friend, do what you are here to do.”[j] Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and arrested him.(AC) 51 Suddenly one of those with Jesus put his hand on his sword, drew it, and struck the slave of the high priest, cutting off his ear. 52 Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place, for all who take the sword will die by the sword.(AD) 53 Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?(AE) 54 But how then would the scriptures be fulfilled, which say it must happen in this way?”(AF) 55 At that hour Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out with swords and clubs to arrest me as though I were a rebel? Day after day I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not arrest me. 56 But all this has taken place, so that the scriptures of the prophets may be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.(AG)
Jesus before the High Priest
57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders had gathered. 58 But Peter was following him at a distance, as far as the courtyard of the high priest, and going inside he sat with the guards in order to see how this would end.(AH) 59 Now the chief priests and the whole council were looking for false testimony against Jesus so that they might put him to death, 60 but they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. At last two came forward(AI) 61 and said, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.’ ”(AJ) 62 The high priest stood up and said, “Have you no answer? What is it that they testify against you?” 63 But Jesus was silent. Then the high priest said to him, “I put you under oath before the living God, tell us if you are the Messiah,[k] the Son of God.”(AK) 64 Jesus said to him, “You have said so. But I tell you,
From now on you will see the Son of Man
seated at the right hand of Power
and coming on the clouds of heaven.”(AL)
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? You have now heard his blasphemy.(AM) 66 What do you think?” They answered, “He deserves death.”(AN) 67 Then they spat in his face and struck him, and some slapped him,(AO) 68 saying, “Prophesy to us, you Messiah![l] Who is it that struck you?”
Peter’s Denial of Jesus
69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A female servant came to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.” 70 But he denied it before all of them, saying, “I do not know what you are talking about.” 71 When he went out to the porch, another female servant saw him, and she said to the bystanders, “This man was with Jesus the Nazarene.”[m] 72 Again he denied it with an oath, “I do not know the man.” 73 After a little while the bystanders came up and said to Peter, “Certainly you are also one of them, for your accent betrays you.” 74 Then he began to curse, and he swore an oath, “I do not know the man!” At that moment the cock crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered what Jesus had said: “Before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.” And he went out and wept bitterly.(AP)

The plot against Jesus
26 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples, 2 ‘As you know, the Passover is two days away – and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified.’
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiaphas, 4 and they schemed to arrest Jesus secretly and kill him. 5 ‘But not during the festival,’ they said, ‘or there may be a riot among the people.’
Jesus anointed at Bethany
6 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, 7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.
8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. ‘Why this waste?’ they asked. 9 ‘This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor.’
10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, ‘Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 11 The poor you will always have with you,[a] but you will not always have me. 12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. 13 Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.’
Judas agrees to betray Jesus
14 Then one of the Twelve – the one called Judas Iscariot – went to the chief priests 15 and asked, ‘What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?’ So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. 16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
The Last Supper
17 On the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread, the disciples came to Jesus and asked, ‘Where do you want us to make preparations for you to eat the Passover?’
18 He replied, ‘Go into the city to a certain man and tell him, “The Teacher says: my appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.”’ 19 So the disciples did as Jesus had directed them and prepared the Passover.
20 When evening came, Jesus was reclining at the table with the Twelve. 21 And while they were eating, he said, ‘Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me.’
22 They were very sad and began to say to him one after the other, ‘Surely you don’t mean me, Lord?’
23 Jesus replied, ‘The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me. 24 The Son of Man will go just as it is written about him. But woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.’
25 Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, ‘Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?’
Jesus answered, ‘You have said so.’
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Take and eat; this is my body.’
27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[b] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.’
30 When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Jesus predicts Peter’s denial
31 Then Jesus told them, ‘This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written:
‘“I will strike the shepherd,
and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.”[c]
32 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.’
33 Peter replied, ‘Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.’
34 ‘Truly I tell you,’ Jesus answered, ‘this very night, before the cock crows, you will disown me three times.’
35 But Peter declared, ‘Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.’ And all the other disciples said the same.
Gethsemane
36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, ‘Sit here while I go over there and pray.’ 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, ‘My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.’
39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.’
40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. ‘Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?’ he asked Peter. 41 ‘Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.’
42 He went away a second time and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.’
43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, ‘Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!’
Jesus arrested

50 Jesus replied, ‘Do what you came for, friend.’[d]
Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 51 With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.
52 ‘Put your sword back in its place,’ Jesus said to him, ‘for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? 54 But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?’
55 In that hour Jesus said to the crowd, ‘Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. 56 But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.’ Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.
Jesus before the Sanhedrin
57 Those who had arrested Jesus took him to Caiaphas the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. 58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome.
59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses came forward.
Finally two came forward 61 and declared, ‘This fellow said, “I am able to destroy the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.”’
62 Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, ‘Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?’ 63 But Jesus remained silent.
The high priest said to him, ‘I charge you under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.’
64 ‘You have said so,’ Jesus replied. ‘But I say to all of you: from now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.’[e]
65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, ‘He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66 What do you think?’
‘He is worthy of death,’ they answered.
67 Then they spat in his face and struck him with their fists. Others slapped him 68 and said, ‘Prophesy to us, Messiah. Who hit you?’
Peter disowns Jesus

72 He denied it again, with an oath: ‘I don’t know the man!’
73 After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, ‘Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.’
74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, ‘I don’t know the man!’
Immediately a cock crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: ‘Before the cock crows, you will disown me three times.’ And he went outside and wept bitterly.
