Liknelsen om bröllopsfesten
(Luk 14:16-24)
22 Jesus berättade ännu en liknelse för dem: 2 ”Himmelriket är som när en kung förberedde en bröllopsfest för sin son. 3 Han skickade ut sina tjänare för att kalla de inbjudna, men de tackade nej.
4 Då sände han andra tjänare för att säga till dem: ’Allt är klart för måltiden, mina oxar och kalvar är slaktade. Skynda er att komma!’
5 Men de var inte intresserade. De fortsatte var och en med sitt, den ene med sin lantgård, den andre med sina affärer. 6 Några grep kungens tjänare och misshandlade dem och dödade dem. 7 Då greps kungen av vrede och sände ut sin armé, avrättade mördarna och brände ner deras stad.
8 Sedan sa han till sina tjänare: ’Bröllopsfesten är klar, men de gäster jag bjöd in är inte värdiga. 9 Gå därför ut i gathörnen och bjud alla ni ser till bröllopet.’ 10 Tjänarna gjorde då det och tog med sig alla de kunde hitta, både onda och goda, och festsalen fylldes med gäster.
11 Men när kungen kom in för att hälsa på gästerna lade han märke till en man som inte hade bröllopskläder på sig. 12 ’Min vän’, frågade han, ’hur kan du vara här utan att ha bröllopskläder på dig?’ Men mannen kunde inte svara.[a]
13 Då sa kungen till sina tjänare: ’Bind hans händer och fötter och kasta ut honom i mörkret här utanför. Där ska man gråta och skära tänder.’ 14 Många är inbjudna, men få är utvalda.”
Ska man betala skatt till kejsaren?
(Mark 12:13-17; Luk 20:20-26)
15 Då gick fariseerna iväg för att fundera ut ett sätt att få Jesus att säga något som de kunde arrestera honom för. 16 De skickade några av sina lärjungar, tillsammans med Herodes anhängare[b], och lät dem säga till Jesus: ”Mästare, vi vet att du är uppriktig och verkligen lär oss Guds väg. Du låter dig inte påverkas av någon och ser inte till personen. 17 Tala nu om för oss om det är rätt eller inte att betala skatt till kejsaren.”
18 Men Jesus visste deras ondska. ”Ni hycklare!” sa han. ”Varför försöker ni lura mig? 19 Visa mig ett mynt, ett sådant som man betalar skatt med.” Då gav de honom en denar, 20 och han frågade dem: ”Vems bild är det här, och vems underskrift?” 21 ”Kejsarens”, svarade de. ”Då så”, sa han, ”ge kejsaren det som är hans och Gud det som är Guds.”
22 När de hörde detta blev de förvånade och gick sin väg och lämnade honom ifred.
Ska de döda uppstå?
(Mark 12:18-27; Luk 20:27-40)
23 Samma dag kom några av saddukeerna, som påstår att det inte finns någon uppståndelse, och därför frågade de honom: 24 ”Mästare, Mose har sagt: ’Om en man dör barnlös, ska hans bror gifta sig med änkan och skaffa en arvtagare åt sin bror.’[c] 25 Nu fanns det faktiskt bland oss sju bröder. Den förste av bröderna gifte sig och dog barnlös, och därför gifte sig bror nummer två med änkan. 26 Men han dog också barnlös, och då gifte sig bror nummer tre med henne. Så fortsatte det tills hon varit gift med dem alla sju. 27 Sedan dog också kvinnan. 28 Vems hustru blir hon när de nu uppstår från de döda? Alla sju har ju varit gifta med henne.”
29 Men Jesus svarade: ”Ni tar alldeles fel, eftersom ni varken förstår Skriften eller Guds kraft. 30 När de döda har uppstått, ska de inte gifta sig eller bli bortgifta, utan vara som änglarna i himlen. 31 Men när det gäller de dödas uppståndelse, har ni då aldrig läst vad Gud har sagt till er: 32 ’Jag är Abrahams, Isaks och Jakobs Gud’.[d] Gud är inte en gud för döda, utan för levande.[e]” 33 När folket hörde detta, blev de alldeles häpna över hans undervisning.
Vilket bud är viktigast?
(Mark 12:28-31; Luk 10:25-28)
34 Men när fariseerna fick höra att Jesus hade fått tyst på saddukeerna, samlades de, 35 och en av dem, en laglärd, försökte sätta dit Jesus genom att fråga: 36 ”Mästare, vilket är det största budet i lagen?”
37 Jesus svarade: ” ’Du ska älska Herren, din Gud, av hela ditt hjärta, av hela din själ och av hela ditt förstånd.’[f] 38 Detta är det första budet, och också det största. 39 Det näst viktigaste liknar det första: ’Du ska älska din medmänniska som dig själv.’[g] 40 De här två buden sammanfattar hela lagen och profeterna.”
Är Messias ättling till David?
(Mark 12:35-37; Luk 20:41-44)
41 Medan fariseerna var samlade runt Jesus, frågade han dem: 42 ”Vad anser ni om Messias? Vem är han ättling till?”
De svarade: ”David.” 43 ”Varför kallar David honom då ’Herre’, när han talar ledd av Anden?” frågade Jesus. ”David sa ju:
44 ’Herren sa till min Herre:
Sätt dig på min högra sida,
tills jag har lagt dina fiender under dina fötter.’[h]
45 David kallar honom för Herre, hur skulle han då kunna vara Davids Son?”
46 Men de kunde inte svara, och från den dagen vågade ingen ställa några fler frågor till honom.

- 22:12 Den som inbjöd till bröllop försåg troligen gästerna med bröllopskläder ibland, och särskilt i ett sådant här fall då gästerna kom direkt från gatan. Mannen hade alltså förolämpat värden genom att vägra ta emot de kläder han blev erbjuden.
- 22:16 Herodes anhängare stödde romarna. De ville få bort Jesus av politiska skäl, eftersom de trodde att han skulle göra uppror mot romarna.

Liknelsen om bröllopsfesten
1-2 Jesus berättade många liknelser för att förklara vad himmelriket är.Han sa: Himmelriket kan till exempel liknas vid en stor bröllopsmiddag som en kung förberedde för sin son.
3 Han bjöd in många gäster, och när förberedelserna var klara skickade han ut tjänare för att tala om för de inbjudna att det var dags att komma. Men alla tackade nej.
4 Då sände han andra tjänare för att säga till dem: 'Allt är klart, mina oxar och kalvar är slaktade. Skynda er att komma!'
5 Men gästerna, som han hade bjudit, var inte intresserade, utan fortsatte med sitt, den ene på sin lantgård, den andre i sin affär.
6 Några misshandlade tjänarna och behandlade dem skamligt och dödade till och med en del av dem.
7 Då sände den uppretade kungen ut sin armé och grep mördarna och avrättade dem och brände ner deras stad.
8 Och han sa till sina tjänare: 'Bröllopsfesten är klar, men de gäster jag inbjöd är inte värda äran att delta i denna fest.
9 Gå därför ut i gathörnen och bjud alla ni ser.'
10 Tjänarna gjorde det och tog med sig alla de kunde hitta, både onda och goda, och festsalen fylldes med gäster.
11 Men när kungen kom in för att hälsa på gästerna lade han märke till en man, som inte hade några bröllopskläder på sig.
12 'Min vän
13 Då sa kungen till sina medhjälpare: 'Bind honom till händer och fötter och kasta ut honom i mörkret, där man gråter och skär tänder.
14 För många är inbjudna, men få är utvalda.'
Frågan om att betala skatt
15 Då samlades fariseerna för att försöka fundera ut något sätt att få Jesus att säga något som de kunde arrestera honom för.
16 De beslutade då att sända några av sina män tillsammans med kung Herodes anhängare för att ställa denna fråga till honom: Herre, vi vet att du är mycket uppriktig. Du lär oss sanningen utan hänsyn till konsekvenserna, och du låter dig inte påverkas av någon.
17 Säg oss nu om det är Guds vilja eller inte att vi betalar skatt till den romerska staten.
18 Men Jesus visste vad de var ute efter. Era hycklare! ropade han. Varför försöker ni lura mig?
19 Ge mig ett mynt. Då gav de honom ett romerskt mynt.
20 Han frågade dem: Vems bild är det här? Och vems namn står under bilden?
21 Kejsarens, svarade de. Då så, sa han. Ge det till kejsaren om det är hans, och ge Gud allt som tillhör honom.
22 Hans svar förvånade dem och gjorde dem svarslösa, och de gick sin väg.
Frågan om uppståndelsen
23 Men samma dag kom några av saddukeerna till Jesus. De påstår nämligen att det inte finns någon uppståndelse från de döda, och därför frågade de honom:
24 Herre, Mose har sagt, att om en man dör barnlös så skall hans bror gifta sig med änkan, så att den dödes släkt kan leva vidare genom deras barn.
25 Vi hade faktiskt bland oss en familj med sju bröder. Den förste av dessa män gifte sig och dog sedan barnlös, och därför gifte sig den andre brodern med hans fru.
26 Denne broder dog också barnlös, och då gifte sig näste broder med kvinnan. Så fortsatte det tills hon varit gift med dem allesammans.
27 Sedan dog hon också.
28 Vems fru kommer hon att vara vid uppståndelsen, eftersom hon ju varit gift med alla sju?
29 Men Jesus svarade: Ni har kommit alldeles fel. Och ni förstår varken Guds ord eller Guds kraft.
30 Efter uppståndelsen kommer det inte att finnas några äktenskap i jordisk mening. Alla kommer att vara som änglarna.
31 Men när det gäller uppståndelsen från de döda, ja, läser ni aldrig Skriften? Förstår ni inte att Gud talade direkt till er, när han sa:
32 'Jag är Abrahams, Isaks och Jakobs Gud'? Gud är inte en gud för de döda, utan för de levande.
Frågan om det viktigaste budet
33 Alla blev djupt imponerade av hans svar -
34-35 utom fariseerna. När de hörde att han med sitt svar hade täppt till munnen på saddukeerna ville de sätta honom på prov med en egen fråga.En av dem, en advokat, sa till honom:
36 Herre, vilket är det viktigaste budet i Moses lag?
37 Jesus svarade: Älska Herren, din Gud, av allt ditt hjärta, av all din själ och av allt ditt förstånd.
38-39 Detta är det första och största budet. Det som kommer därnäst i betydelse liknar det första: Älska din medmänniska lika mycket som du älskar dig själv.
40 Alla de andra buden och alla profeternas föreskrifter kan sammanfattas i dessa två bud.
Folkets religiösa ledare kan inte svara Jesus
41 Sedan ställde Jesus en fråga till fariseerna som stod vid sidan om honom:
42 Kan ni säga mig vems son Messias är? De svarade: Davids son.
43 Varför kallar då David honom herre, då han talar under den helige Andes inflytande? frågade Jesus. David sa ju:
44 'Gud sa till min herre: Sitt på min högra sida, tills jag lagt dina fiender under dina fötter.'
45 Eftersom David kallade honom 'herre
46 Men de kunde inte svara på frågan, och efter det vågade ingen ställa några fler frågor till Jesus.

Parable of the Marriage Feast
22 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying, 2 “(A)The kingdom of heaven [a]is like [b]a king who [c]held a (B)wedding feast for his son. 3 And he (C)sent his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come. 4 Again he (D)sent other slaves, saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fattened cattle are all butchered and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast!”’ 5 But they paid no attention and went their separate ways, one to his own [d]farm, another to his business, 6 and the rest seized his slaves and treated them abusively, and then killed them. 7 Now the king was angry, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire. 8 Then he *said to his slaves, ‘The wedding feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. 9 So go to (E)the main roads, and invite whomever you find there to the wedding feast.’ 10 Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good; and the wedding hall was filled with [e]dinner guests.
11 “But when the king came in to look over the [f]dinner guests, he saw (F)a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes, 12 and he *said to him, ‘(G)Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ And the man was speechless. 13 Then the king said to the servants, ‘Tie his hands and feet, and throw him into (H)the outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth in that place.’ 14 For many are [g](I)called, but few are (J)chosen.”
Poll-tax to Caesar
15 (K)Then the Pharisees went and [h]plotted together how they might trap Him [i]in what He said. 16 And they *sent their disciples to Him, along with the (L)Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and [j]do not care what anyone thinks; for You [k]are not partial to anyone. 17 Tell us then, what do You think? Is it [l]permissible to pay a [m](M)poll-tax to (N)Caesar, or not?” 18 But Jesus perceived their [n]malice, and said, “Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites? 19 Show Me the (O)coin used for the poll-tax.” And they brought Him a [o]denarius. 20 And He *said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” 21 They *said to Him, “Caesar’s.” Then He *said to them, “(P)Then pay to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s; and to God the things that are God’s.” 22 And hearing this, they were amazed; and (Q)they left Him and went away.
Jesus Answers the Sadducees
23 (R)On that day some (S)Sadducees (who say (T)there is no resurrection) came to [p]Jesus and questioned Him, 24 saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘(U)If a man dies having no children, his brother as next of kin shall marry his wife, and raise up [q]children for his brother.’ 25 Now there were seven brothers among us; and the first married and died, and having no [r]children, he left his wife to his brother. 26 It was the same also with the second brother, and the third, down to the seventh. 27 Last of all, the woman died. 28 In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her in marriage.”
29 But Jesus answered and said to them, “You are mistaken, (V)since you do not [s]understand the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither (W)marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 31 But regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God: 32 ‘(X)I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.” 33 When the crowds heard this, (Y)they were astonished at His teaching.
34 (Z)But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced (AA)the Sadducees, they gathered together. 35 And one of them, [t](AB)a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him: 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘(AC)You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and [u]foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘(AD)You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 (AE)Upon these two commandments [v]hang the whole Law and the Prophets.”
41 (AF)Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question: 42 “What do you think about the [w]Christ? Whose son is He?” They *said to Him, “(AG)The son of David.” 43 He *said to them, “Then [x]how does David [y](AH)in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying,
44 ‘(AI)The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit at My right hand,
Until I put Your enemies under Your feet”’?
45 Therefore, if David calls Him ‘Lord,’ [z]how is He his son?” 46 (AJ)No one was able to offer Him a word in answer, nor did anyone dare from that day on to ask Him any more questions.

22 1-2 Jesus told several other stories to show what the Kingdom of Heaven is like.
“For instance,” he said, “it can be illustrated by the story of a king who prepared a great wedding dinner for his son. 3 Many guests were invited, and when the banquet was ready, he sent messengers to notify everyone that it was time to come. But all refused! 4 So he sent other servants to tell them, ‘Everything is ready and the roast is in the oven. Hurry!’
5 “But the guests he had invited merely laughed and went on about their business, one to his farm, another to his store; 6 others beat up his messengers and treated them shamefully, even killing some of them.
7 “Then the angry king sent out his army and destroyed the murderers and burned their city. 8 And he said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready, and the guests I invited aren’t worthy of the honor. 9 Now go out to the street corners and invite everyone you see.’
10 “So the servants did, and brought in all they could find, good and bad alike; and the banquet hall was filled with guests. 11 But when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasn’t wearing the wedding robe provided for him.[a]
12 “‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how does it happen that you are here without a wedding robe?’ And the man had no reply.
13 “Then the king said to his aides, ‘Bind him hand and foot and throw him out into the outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ 14 For many are called, but few are chosen.”
15 Then the Pharisees met together to try to think of some way to trap Jesus into saying something for which they could arrest him. 16 They decided to send some of their men along with the Herodians[b] to ask him this question: “Sir, we know you are very honest and teach the truth regardless of the consequences, without fear or favor. 17 Now tell us, is it right to pay taxes to the Roman government or not?”
18 But Jesus saw what they were after. “You hypocrites!” he exclaimed. “Who are you trying to fool with your trick questions? 19 Here, show me a coin.” And they handed him a penny.
20 “Whose picture is stamped on it?” he asked them. “And whose name is this beneath the picture?”
21 “Caesar’s,” they replied.
“Well, then,” he said, “give it to Caesar if it is his, and give God everything that belongs to God.”
22 His reply surprised and baffled them, and they went away.
23 But that same day some of the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection after death, came to him and asked, 24 “Sir, Moses said that if a man died without children, his brother should marry the widow and their children would get all the dead man’s property. 25 Well, we had among us a family of seven brothers. The first of these men married and then died, without children, so his widow became the second brother’s wife. 26 This brother also died without children, and the wife was passed to the next brother, and so on until she had been the wife of each of them. 27 And then she also died. 28 So whose wife will she be in the resurrection? For she was the wife of all seven of them!”
29 But Jesus said, “Your error is caused by your ignorance of the Scriptures and of God’s power! 30 For in the resurrection there is no marriage; everyone is as the angels in heaven. 31 But now, as to whether there is a resurrection of the dead—don’t you ever read the Scriptures? Don’t you realize that God was speaking directly to you when he said, 32
33 The crowds were profoundly impressed by his answers— 34-35 but not the Pharisees! When they heard that he had routed the Sadducees with his reply, they thought up a fresh question of their own to ask him. One of them, a lawyer, spoke up: 36 “Sir, which is the most important command in the laws of Moses?”
37 Jesus replied, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind.’ 38-39 This is the first and greatest commandment. The second most important is similar: ‘Love your neighbor as much as you love yourself.’ 40 All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets stem from these two laws and are fulfilled if you obey them. Keep only these and you will find that you are obeying all the others.”
41 Then, surrounded by the Pharisees, he asked them a question: 42 “What about the Messiah? Whose son is he?”
“The son of David,” they replied.
43 “Then why does David, speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, call him ‘Lord’?” Jesus asked. “For David said,
44 ‘God said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies beneath your feet.’
45 Since David called him ‘Lord,’ how can he be merely his son?”
46 They had no answer. And after that no one dared ask him any more questions.
