Liknelsen om den generöse arbetsgivaren
20 Här följer en annan berättelse som också är en bild av himmelriket: En man, som hade en stor egendom, gick tidigt en morgon ut för att anställa arbetare till sina skördefält.
2 De kom överens om dagspenningen och männen gick sedan ut till arbetet.
3 Några timmar senare gick mannen ut igen och fick då se några andra män stå arbetslösa på torget.
4 Han skickade iväg också dem till fälten och lovade att han vid dagens slut skulle betala dem vad som var rimligt.
5 Vid middagstid och vid tretiden på eftermiddagen gjorde han likadant.
6 Klockan fem på kvällen var han i staden igen och såg då ytterligare några män som stod där sysslolösa. Han frågade dem: 'Varför har ni inte arbetat på hela dagen?'
7 'Därför att ingen har anställt oss
8 När kvällen kom bad mannen sin kamrer att kalla på arbetarna och ge dem deras lön, och då börja med dem som kom sist.
9 När de män som börjat arbeta klockan fem tog emot sin betalning, fick var och en en hel dagslön.
10 När därför männen som anställts först kom för att få sin lön, trodde de att de skulle få mycket mer. Men de fick också samma belopp.
11-12 Då började de protestera: 'De här karlarna har bara hållit på en timme och ändå betalar du dem lika mycket som oss. Och vi som arbetat hela dagen i den brännande hettan.'
13 'Min vän
14 Ta den och gå. Jag tänker ge alla samma lön.
15 Har jag inte rätt att göra vad jag vill med mina pengar? Och varför blir ni så arga över att jag är så generös?'
16 Så ska de sista bli de första och de första de sista.
Jesus förutsäger för tredje gången hur han ska dö
(177/Mark 10:32-34; Luk 18:31-34)17 När Jesus nu var på väg till Jerusalem samlade han de tolv lärjungarna
18 och samtalade med dem om vad som skulle hända när de kom dit.Jag kommer att bli förrådd och överlämnad till översteprästerna och de judiska ledarna, och de kommer att döma mig till döden.
19 De kommer att överlämna mig till de romerska myndigheterna, och jag kommer att bli hånad och korsfäst. Men på den tredje dagen ska jag stå upp från de döda.
Jesus talar om att tjäna andra
20 Sedan kom Sebedaios söner, Jakob och Johannes, tillsammans med sin mor till Jesus. Hon föll på knä för att be om något.
21 Vad vill du? frågade han.Hon svarade: Kan du inte låta mina söner sitta på hedersplats närmast dig i ditt rike?
22 Men Jesus sa till henne: Du vet inte vad du ber om! Sedan vände han sig till Jakob och Johannes och frågade dem: Kan ni utstå de fruktansvärda lidanden som jag måste utstå? Ja, svarade de. Det kan vi!
23 Ni ska verkligen få göra det, sa han till dem. Men jag har ingen rättighet att säga vem som ska sitta närmast mig. De platserna är reserverade för dem min Far väljer ut.
24 De andra lärjungarna blev upprörda när de hörde vad Jakob och Johannes krävde.
25 Men Jesus samlade dem och sa: Här i världen uppträder kungarna som tyranner, och de som har makt trycker ner dem som står under dem.
26 Men så får det inte lov att vara bland er. Den som vill vara ledare måste vara de andras tjänare.
27 Och den som vill vara störst måste tjäna som slav.
28 Ni måste ha samma inställning som jag har, för Människosonen har inte kommit för att bli betjänad, utan för att själv tjäna. Ja, jag har kommit för att ge mitt liv och på så sätt göra många fria.
Jesus botar från blindhet
29 När Jesus och lärjungarna lämnade staden Jeriko följde en stor folkskara med dem.
30 Två blinda män satt då vid vägkanten, och när de hörde att Jesus kom gående började de ropa: Herre, Davids son, var snäll och hjälp oss!
31 Folket försökte få dem att hålla tyst, men då ropade de ännu högre.
32-33 När Jesus kom till det ställe där de satt, stannade han och frågade: Vad vill ni mig? Herre, sa de, vi skulle vilja se!
34 Då greps Jesus av medlidande med dem, och han rörde vid deras ögon. Genast kunde de se, och de följde honom.

20 »Ty med himmelriket är det, såsom när en husbonde bittida om morgonen gick ut för att leja åt sig arbetare till sin vingård.
2 Och när han hade kommit överens med arbetarna om en viss dagspenning, sände han dem till sin vingård.
3 När han sedan gick ut vid tredje timmen, fick han se några andra stå sysslolösa på torget;
4 och han sade till dem: 'Gån ock I till min vingård, så skall jag giva eder vad skäligt är.'
5 Och de gingo. Åter gick han ut vid sjätte timmen och vid nionde och gjorde sammalunda.
6 Också vid elfte timmen gick han ut och fann då några andra stå där; och han sade till dem: 'Varför stån I här hela dagen sysslolösa?'
7 De svarade honom: 'Därför att ingen har lejt oss.' Då sade han till dem: 'Gån ock I till min vingård.'
8 När det så hade blivit afton, sade vingårdens herre till sin förvaltare: 'Kalla fram arbetarna och giv dem deras lön, men begynn med de sista och gå så tillbaka ända till de första.'
9 Då nu de kommo fram, som voro lejda vid elfte timmen, fick var och en av dem full dagspenning.
10 När sedan de första kommo, trodde de att de skulle få mer, men också var och en av dem fick samma dagspenning.
11 När de så fingo, knorrade de mot husbonden.
12 och sade: 'Dessa sista hava arbetat allenast en timme, och du har ändå ställt dem lika med oss, som hava burit dagens tunga och solens hetta?'
13 Då svarade han en av dem och sade: 'Min vän, jag gör dig ingen orätt. Kom du icke överens med mig om den dagspenningen?
14 Tag vad dig tillkommer och gå. Men åt denne siste vill jag giva lika mycket som åt dig.
15 Har jag icke lov att göra såsom jag vill med det som är mitt? Eller skall du med onda ögon se på att jag är så god?' --
16 Så skola de sista bliva de första, och de första bliva de sista.»
17 Då nu Jesus ville gå upp till Jerusalem, tog han till sig de tolv, så att de voro allena; och under vägen sade han till dem:
18 »Se, vi gå nu upp till Jerusalem, och Människosonen skall bliva överlämnad åt översteprästerna och de skriftlärde, och de skola döma honom till döden
19 och överlämna honom åt hedningarna till att begabbas och gisslas och korsfästas; men på tredje dagen skall han uppstå igen.»
20 Då trädde Sebedeus' söners moder fram till honom med sina söner och föll ned för honom och ville begära något av honom.
21 Han frågade henne: »Vad vill du?» Hon svarade honom: »Säg att i ditt rike den ene av dessa mina två söner skall få sitta på din högra sida, och den andre på din vänstra.»
22 Men Jesus svarade och sade: »I veten icke vad I begären. Kunnen I dricka den kalk som jag skall dricka?» De svarade honom: »Det kunna vi.»
23 Då sade han till dem: »Ja, väl skolen I få dricka min kalk, men platsen på min högra sida och platsen på min vänstra tillkommer det icke mig att bortgiva, utan de skola tillfalla dem för vilka så är bestämt av min Fader.»
24 När de tio andra hörde detta, blevo de misslynta på de två bröderna.
25 Då kallade Jesus dem till sig och sade: »I veten att furstarna uppträda mot sina folk såsom herrar, och att de mäktige låta folken känna sin myndighet.
26 Så är det icke bland eder; utan den som vill bliva störst bland eder, han vare de andras tjänare,
27 och den som vill vara främst bland eder, han vare de andras dräng,
28 likasom Människosonen har kommit, icke för att låta tjäna sig, utan för att tjäna och giva sitt liv till lösen för många.»
29 När de sedan gingo ut ifrån Jeriko, följde honom mycket folk.
30 Och se, två blinda sutto där vid vägen. När dessa hörde att det var Jesus som gick där fram, ropade de och sade: »Herre, förbarma dig över oss, du Davids son.»
31 Och folket tillsade dem strängeligen att de skulle tiga; men de ropade dess mer och sade: »Herre, förbarma dig över oss, du Davids son.»
32 Då stannade Jesus och kallade dem till sig och sade: »Vad viljen I att jag skall göra eder?»
33 De svarade honom: »Herre, låt våra ögon bliva öppnade.»
34 Då förbarmade sig Jesus över dem och rörde vid deras ögon, och strax fingo de sin syn och följde honom.

The Parable of the Vineyard Workers
20 “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.(A) 2 After agreeing with the workers on one denarius,[a] he sent them into his vineyard for the day. 3 When he went out about nine in the morning,[b] he saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4 He said to them, ‘You also go into my vineyard, and I’ll give you whatever is right.’ So off they went. 5 About noon and about three,[c] he went out again and did the same thing. 6 Then about five[d] he went and found others standing around[e] and said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day doing nothing?’
7 “‘Because no one hired us,’ they said to him.
“‘You also go into my vineyard,’ he told them.[f] 8 When evening came, the owner of the vineyard told his foreman, ‘Call the workers and give them their pay,(B) starting with the last and ending with the first.’
9 “When those who were hired about five came, they each received one denarius. 10 So when the first ones came, they assumed they would get more, but they also received a denarius each. 11 When they received it, they began to complain to the landowner: 12 ‘These last men put in one hour, and you made them equal to us who bore the burden of the day’s work and the burning heat.’(C)
13 “He replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I’m doing you no wrong. Didn’t you agree with me on a denarius?(D) 14 Take what’s yours and go. I want to give this last man the same as I gave you. 15 Don’t I have the right to do what I want with what is mine? Are you jealous[g] because I’m generous?’[h](E)
16 “So the last will be first, and the first last.”[i](F)
The Third Prediction of His Death
17 While going up to Jerusalem,(G) Jesus took the twelve disciples aside privately and said to them on the way, 18 “See, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death.(H) 19 They will hand him over to the Gentiles(I) to be mocked, flogged,[j] and crucified, and on the third day he will be raised.”[k]
Suffering and Service
20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons approached him with her sons.(J) She knelt down to ask him for something.(K) 21 “What do you want?” he asked her.
“Promise,”[l] she said to him, “that these two sons of mine may sit, one on your right and the other on your left, in your kingdom.”(L)
22 Jesus answered, “You don’t know what you’re asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?”[m](M)
“We are able,” they said to him.
23 He told them, “You will indeed drink my cup,[n] but to sit at my right and left is not mine to give; instead, it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.”(N)
24 When the ten disciples heard this, they became indignant with the two brothers. 25 Jesus called them over and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those in high positions act as tyrants over them. 26 It must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,(O) 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave; 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,(P) and to give his life as a ransom for many.”(Q)
Two Blind Men Healed
29 As they were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him.(R) 30 There were two blind men sitting by the road. When they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” 31 The crowd demanded that they keep quiet, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” (S)
32 Jesus stopped, called them, and said, “What do you want me to do for you?”
33 “Lord,” they said to him, “open our eyes.” 34 Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they could see, and they followed him.

The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard
20 “For the kingdom of heaven is like(A) a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.(B) 2 He agreed to pay them a denarius[a] for the day and sent them into his vineyard.
3 “About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4 He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ 5 So they went.
“He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. 6 About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’
7 “‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered.
“He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’
8 “When evening came,(C) the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’
9 “The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. 10 So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11 When they received it, they began to grumble(D) against the landowner. 12 ‘These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat(E) of the day.’
13 “But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend.(F) Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? 14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15 Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’(G)
16 “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”(H)
Jesus Predicts His Death a Third Time(I)
17 Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, 18 “We are going up to Jerusalem,(J) and the Son of Man(K) will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law.(L) They will condemn him to death 19 and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged(M) and crucified.(N) On the third day(O) he will be raised to life!”(P)
A Mother’s Request(Q)
20 Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons(R) came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down,(S) asked a favor of him.
21 “What is it you want?” he asked.
She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”(T)
22 “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup(U) I am going to drink?”
“We can,” they answered.
23 Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup,(V) but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.”
24 When the ten heard about this, they were indignant(W) with the two brothers. 25 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,(X) 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man(Y) did not come to be served, but to serve,(Z) and to give his life as a ransom(AA) for many.”
Two Blind Men Receive Sight(AB)
29 As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. 30 Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David,(AC) have mercy on us!”
31 The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”
32 Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.
33 “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.”
34 Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
