2 När nu Jesus var född i Betlehem i Judeen, på konung Herodes' tid, då kommo vise män från österns länder till Jerusalem
2 och sade: »Var är den nyfödde judakonungen? Vi hava nämligen sett hans stjärna i östern och hava kommit för att giva honom vår hyllning.»
3 När konung Herodes hörde detta, blev han förskräckt, och hela Jerusalem med honom.
4 Och han församlade alla överstepräster och skriftlärde bland folket och frågade dem var Messias skulle födas.
5 De svarade honom: »I Betlehem i Judeen; ty så är skrivet genom profeten:
6 'Och du Betlehem, du judiska bygd, ingalunda är du minst bland Juda furstar, ty av dig skall utgå en furste som skall vara en herde för mitt folk Israel.'»
7 Då kallade Herodes hemligen till sig de vise männen och utfrågade dem noga om tiden då stjärnan hade visat sig.
8 Sedan lät han dem fara till Betlehem och sade: »Faren åstad och forsken noga efter barnet; och när I haven funnit det, så låten mig veta detta, för att också jag må komma och giva det min hyllning.»
9 När de hade hört konungens ord, foro de åstad; och se, stjärnan som de hade sett i östern gick framför dem, till dess att den kom över det ställe där barnet var. Där stannade den.
10 Och när de sågo stjärnan, uppfylldes de av mycket stor glädje.
11 Och de gingo in i huset och fingo se barnet med Maria, dess moder. Då föllo de ned och gåvo det sin hyllning; och de togo fram sina skatter och framburo åt det skänker: guld, rökelse och myrra.
12 Sedan fingo de, genom en uppenbarelse i drömmen, befallning att icke återvända till Herodes; och de drogo så en annan väg tillbaka till sitt land.
13 Men när de hade dragit åstad, se, då visade sig i drömmen en Herrens ängel för Josef och sade: »Stå upp och tag barnet och dess moder med dig, och fly till Egypten, och bliv kvar där, till dess jag säger dig till; ty Herodes tänker söka efter barnet för att förgöra det.»
14 Då stod han upp och tog barnet och dess moder med sig om natten, och drog bort till Egypten.
15 Där blev han kvar intill Herodes' död, för att det skulle fullbordas, som var sagt av Herren genom profeten som sade: »Ut ur Egypten kallade jag min son.»
16 När Herodes nu såg att han hade blivit gäckad av de vise männen, blev han mycket vred. Och han sände åstad och lät döda alla de gossebarn i Betlehem och hela området däromkring, som voro två år gamla och därunder, detta enligt den uppgift om tiden, som han hade fått genom att utfråga de vise männen.
17 Då fullbordades det som var sagt genom profeten Jeremias, när han sade:
18 »Ett rop hördes i Rama, gråt och mycken jämmer; det var Rakel som begrät sina barn, och hon ville icke låta trösta sig, eftersom de icke mer voro till.»
19 Men när Herodes var död, se, då visade sig i drömmen en Herrens ängel for Josef, i Egypten,
20 och sade: »Stå upp och tag barnet och dess moder med dig, och begiv dig till Israels land; ty de som traktade efter barnets liv äro nu döda.»
21 Då stod han upp och tog barnet och dess moder med sig, och kom så till Israels land.
22 Men när han hörde att Arkelaus regerade över Judeen; efter sin fader Herodes, fruktade han att begiva sig dit; och på grund av en uppenbarelse i drömmen drog han bort till Galileens bygder.
23 Och när han hade kommit dit, bosatte han sig i en stad som hette Nasaret, för att det skulle fullbordas, som var sagt genom profeterna, att han skulle kallas nasaré.

La visita de los sabios de Oriente
2 Cuando Jesús nació, en Belén de Judea, en días del rey Herodes, llegaron del oriente a Jerusalén unos sabios, 2 preguntando:
—¿Dónde está el rey de los judíos que ha nacido?, pues su estrella hemos visto en el oriente y venimos a adorarlo.
3 Al oír esto, el rey Herodes se turbó, y toda Jerusalén con él. 4 Y, habiendo convocado a todos los principales sacerdotes y escribas del pueblo, les preguntó dónde había de nacer el Cristo. 5 Ellos le respondieron:
—En Belén de Judea, porque así fue escrito por el profeta:
6 »“Y tú, Belén, de la tierra de Judá,
no eres la más pequeña entre los príncipes de Judá,
porque de ti saldrá un guiador,
que apacentará a mi pueblo Israel.”
7 Entonces Herodes llamó en secreto a los sabios y se cercioró del tiempo exacto en que había aparecido la estrella. 8 Y enviándolos a Belén, dijo:
—Id allá y averiguad con diligencia acerca del niño y, cuando lo halléis, hacédmelo saber, para que yo también vaya a adorarlo.
9 Ellos, habiendo oído al rey, se fueron. Y la estrella que habían visto en el oriente iba delante de ellos, hasta que, llegando, se detuvo sobre donde estaba el niño. 10 Y al ver la estrella, se regocijaron con muy grande gozo. 11 Al entrar en la casa, vieron al niño con María, su madre, y postrándose lo adoraron. Luego, abriendo sus tesoros, le ofrecieron presentes: oro, incienso y mirra. 12 Pero siendo avisados por revelación en sueños que no volvieran a Herodes, regresaron a su tierra por otro camino.
La huida a Egipto
13 Después que partieron ellos, un ángel del Señor apareció en sueños a José y le dijo: «Levántate, toma al niño y a su madre, y huye a Egipto. Permanece allá hasta que yo te diga, porque acontecerá que Herodes buscará al niño para matarlo.»
14 Entonces él, despertando, tomó de noche al niño y a su madre, y se fue a Egipto. 15 Estuvo allí hasta la muerte de Herodes, para que se cumpliera lo que dijo el Señor por medio del profeta, cuando dijo: «De Egipto llamé a mi Hijo.»
Matanza de los niños
16 Herodes entonces, cuando se vio burlado por los sabios, se enojó mucho y mandó matar a todos los niños menores de dos años que había en Belén y en todos sus alrededores, conforme al tiempo indicado por los sabios. 17 Entonces se cumplió lo dicho por el profeta Jeremías, cuando dijo:
18 «Voz fue oída en Ramá,
grande lamentación, lloro y gemido;
Raquel que llora a sus hijos
y no quiso ser consolada, porque perecieron.»
El regreso de Egipto
19 Pero después que murió Herodes, un ángel del Señor apareció en sueños a José en Egipto, 20 y le dijo: «Levántate, toma al niño y a su madre, y vete a tierra de Israel, porque han muerto los que procuraban la muerte del niño.»
21 Entonces él se levantó, tomó al niño y a su madre, y se fue a tierra de Israel. 22 Pero cuando oyó que Arquelao reinaba en Judea en lugar de su padre Herodes, tuvo temor de ir allá. Y avisado por revelación en sueños, se fue a la región de Galilea 23 y se estableció en la ciudad que se llama Nazaret, para que se cumpliera lo que fue dicho por los profetas, que habría de ser llamado nazareno.

The Magi Visit the Messiah
2 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea,(A) during the time of King Herod,(B) Magi[a] from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?(C) We saw his star(D) when it rose and have come to worship him.”
3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem(E) in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:
6 “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’[b]”(F)
7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”
9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.(G) Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts(H) of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned(I) in a dream(J) not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
The Escape to Egypt
13 When they had gone, an angel(K) of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream.(L) “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”(M)
14 So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled(N) what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”[c](O)
16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. 17 Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:(P)
18 “A voice is heard in Ramah,
weeping and great mourning,
Rachel(Q) weeping for her children
and refusing to be comforted,
because they are no more.”[d](R)
The Return to Nazareth
19 After Herod died, an angel(S) of the Lord appeared in a dream(T) to Joseph in Egypt 20 and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.”(U)
21 So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream,(V) he withdrew to the district of Galilee,(W) 23 and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth.(X) So was fulfilled(Y) what was said through the prophets, that he would be called a Nazarene.(Z)
