Liknelsen om såningsmannen

13 Samma dag gick Jesus hemifrån och satte sig vid sjön. Då samlades det så mycket folk hos honom att han steg i en båt och satt i den, medan allt folket stod på stranden. Och han talade till dem i många liknelser. Han sade:

"En såningsman gick ut för att så. Och när han sådde, föll en del vid vägen, och fåglarna kom och åt upp det. En del föll på stenig mark, där det inte hade mycket jord. Det sköt genast upp, eftersom det inte hade djup jord. Men när solen steg, förbrändes det och vissnade bort, därför att det inte hade någon rot. En del föll bland tistlar, och tistlarna växte upp och kvävde det. Men en del föll i god jord och bar frukt, hundrafalt och sextiofalt och trettiofalt. Hör, du som har öron!"

Endast liknelser åt folket

10 Lärjungarna kom då fram till Jesus och frågade: "Varför talar du till dem i liknelser?" 11 Han svarade dem: "Ni har fått lära känna himmelrikets hemligheter, men det har inte de andra. 12 Ty den som har skall få, och det i överflöd, men den som inte har, från honom skall tas också det han har. 13 Jag talar till dem i liknelser, eftersom de ser utan att se och hör utan att höra eller förstå. 14 På dem uppfylls Jesajas profetia: Även om ni hör, skall ni inte förstå, och även om ni ser, skall ni inte se. [a] 15 Ty detta folks hjärta är förstockat. De hör illa med sina öron, och de sluter sina ögon, så att de inte ser med ögonen eller hör med öronen eller förstår med hjärtat och vänder om, så att jag får bota dem. 16 Men saliga är era ögon som ser och era öron som hör. 17 Amen säger jag er: Många profeter och rättfärdiga längtade efter att få se det ni ser, men fick inte se det, och få höra det ni hör, men fick inte höra det.

Liknelsens innebörd

18 Hör alltså vad som menas med liknelsen om såningsmannen. 19 När någon hör budskapet om riket men inte förstår det, kommer den onde och rycker bort det som blivit sått i hans hjärta. Detta är sådden vid vägen. 20 Det som såddes på stenig mark är den som hör ordet och genast tar emot det med glädje, 21 men inte har någon rot. Han håller ut endast en tid, och möter han lidande eller förföljelse för ordets skull, så kommer han genast på fall. 22 Det som såddes bland tistlar är den som hör ordet, men världsliga bekymmer och bedräglig rikedom kväver ordet, så att det blir utan frukt. 23 Men det som såddes i god jord är den som hör ordet och förstår, och som bär frukt, hundrafalt och sextiofalt och trettiofalt."

Liknelsen om ogräset

24 En annan liknelse framställde han för dem: "Himmelriket är likt en man som sådde god säd i sin åker. 25 Men då folket sov, kom hans ovän och sådde ogräs mitt ibland vetet och gick sedan sin väg. 26 När nu säden sköt upp och gick i ax, visade sig också ogräset. 27 Då gick tjänarna till sin herre och sade: Herre, visst sådde du god säd i din åker? Varifrån har då ogräset kommit? 28 Han svarade: En ovän har gjort det. Tjänarna frågade honom: Vill du att vi skall gå och samla ihop det? 29 Nej, svarade han, om ni rensar bort ogräset, kan ni på samma gång rycka upp vetet. 30 Låt båda växa tillsammans fram till skörden. Och när skördetiden är inne, skall jag säga till skördemännen: Samla först ihop ogräset och bind det i knippen som skall brännas upp, men vetet skall ni samla in i min loge."

Liknelsen om senapskornet

31 Han framställde också en annan liknelse för dem: "Himmelriket är likt ett senapskorn, som en man tar och sår i sin åker. 32 Det är minst av alla frön, men när det har växt upp är det störst bland alla köksväxter och blir som ett träd, så att himlens fåglar kommer och bygger bo i grenarna."

Liknelsen om surdegen

33 Ännu en liknelse framställde han för dem: "Himmelriket är likt en surdeg, som en kvinna tar och blandar in i tre mått[b] mjöl, till dess alltsammans blir syrat."

34 Allt detta talade Jesus till folket i liknelser. Han talade endast i liknelser till dem, 35 för att det skulle uppfyllas som var sagt genom profeten: Jag vill öppna min mun för att tala i liknelser. Jag skall förkunna vad som har varit dolt sedan världens skapelse. [c]

Jesus förklarar liknelsen om ogräset

36 Sedan lämnade Jesus folkskaran och gick hem. Hans lärjungar kom då fram till honom och sade: "Förklara för oss liknelsen om ogräset i åkern." 37 Han svarade: "Den som sår den goda säden är Människosonen. 38 Åkern är världen. Den goda säden är rikets barn, ogräset är den ondes barn. 39 Ovännen som sådde det är djävulen. Skördetiden är tidsålderns slut, och skördemännen är änglar. 40 Som när ogräset samlas ihop och bränns upp i eld, skall det vara vid tidsålderns slut. 41 Människosonen skall sända ut sina änglar, och de skall samla ihop och föra bort ur hans rike alla som blir andra till fall och lever i laglöshet, 42 och de skall kasta dem i den brinnande ugnen. Där skall man gråta och skära tänder. 43 Då skall de rättfärdiga lysa som solen, i sin Faders rike. Hör, du som har öron att höra med!

Liknelsen om skatten och pärlan

44 Himmelriket är likt en skatt som är gömd i en åker. En man finner den och gömmer den, och i sin glädje går han och säljer allt vad han äger och köper den åkern. 45 Himmelriket är också likt en köpman som söker efter vackra pärlor. 46 Och när han har funnit en mycket dyrbar pärla, går han och säljer allt vad han äger och köper den.

Liknelsen om fisknoten

47 Himmelriket är vidare likt en not som kastas i sjön och fångar fisk av alla slag. 48 När den blir full, drar man upp den på stranden och sätter sig ner och samlar de goda fiskarna i kärl, men de dåliga kastar man bort. 49 Så skall det vara vid tids- ålderns slut. Änglarna skall gå ut och skilja de onda från de rättfärdiga 50 och kasta dem i den brinnande ugnen. Där skall man gråta och skära tänder. 51 Har ni förstått allt detta?" De svarade honom: "Ja". 52 Då sade han till dem: "Därför är varje skriftlärd, som har blivit en himmelrikets lärjunge, lik en man som ur sitt förråd hämtar fram både nytt och gammalt."

Jesus avvisas i Nasaret

53 När Jesus hade avslutat dessa liknelser, lämnade han platsen. 54 Han kom till sin hemstad och undervisade dem i deras synagoga, och de blev mycket förvånade och sade: "Varifrån har han fått denna vishet och dessa kraftgärningar? 55 Är det inte snickarens son? Heter inte hans mor Maria och hans bröder Jakob och Josef och Simon och Judas? 56 Och bor inte alla hans systrar här hos oss? Varifrån har han fått allt detta?" 57 Och de tog anstöt av honom. Men Jesus sade till dem: "En profet är alltid föraktad i sin hemstad och i sin egen familj." 58 Och han gjorde inte många kraftgärningar där, eftersom de inte trodde på honom.

14 Konsa, sa pwofèt Ezayi te di a rive vre pou yo: n'a tande nan zòrèy nou, men, nou p'ap konprann. n'a gade ak je nou, men, nou p'ap wè.

23 Moun ki resevwa pawòl la tankou grenn ki tonbe nan bon tè a, se moun ki konprann pawòl la lè yo tande li. Lè sa a, yo donnen. Gen ladan yo ki bay san, yon lòt bay swasant, yon lòt bay trant.

24 ¶ Jezi ba yo yon lòt parabòl ankò. Li di yo konsa: Peyi Wa ki nan syèl la, se tankou yon moun ki te simen bon grenn nan jaden li.

25 Men, yon jou lannwit, pandan tout moun t'ap dòmi, yon lènmi nonm lan vini, li simen move zèb nan mitan mayi yo. Apre sa, li ale.

26 Lè mayi yo fin pouse, yo pran jete zepi. Lè sa a, move zèb la parèt tou.

27 Moun ki t'ap travay ak mèt jaden an vin di li: Mèt, se pa bon grenn ase nou te simen nan jaden ou lan? Kote move zèb sa yo soti?

33 Li di yo yon lòt parabòl ankò: Peyi Wa ki nan syèl la, se tankou ledven yon fanm pran, li mete nan senk mezi farin pou fè tout pa t' la leve.

34 Se avèk parabòl konsa Jezi t'ap moutre foul moun yo tout bagay sa yo. Li pa t' louvri bouch li pou l' pa t' rakonte yo yon parabòl.

35 Sa te pase konsa pou pawòl pwofèt la te di a te ka rive vre: Se an parabòl m'ap pale ak yo. m'a fè yo konnen bagay ki te kache depi anvan Bondye te kreye latè.

13 On that day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. And there were gathered unto him great multitudes, so that he entered into a boat, and sat; and all the multitude stood on the beach. And he spake to them many things in parables, saying, Behold, the sower went forth to sow; and as he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the birds came and devoured them: and others fell upon the rocky places, where they had not much earth: and straightway they sprang up, because they had no deepness of earth: and when the sun was risen, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And others fell upon the thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked them: and others fell upon the good ground, and yielded fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He that hath ears, [a]let him hear.

10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 11 And he answered and said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that which he hath. 13 Therefore speak I to them in parables; because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 14 And unto them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith,

[b]By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand;
And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive:
15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross,
And their ears are dull of hearing,
And their eyes they have closed;
Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes,
And hear with their ears,
And understand with their heart,
And should turn again,
And I should heal them.

16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear. 17 For verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not. 18 Hear then ye the parable of the sower. 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the evil one, and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side. 20 And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it; 21 yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth. 22 And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the [c]world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. 23 And he that was sown upon the good ground, this is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; who verily beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

24 Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man that sowed good seed in his field: 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed [d]tares also among the wheat, and went away. 26 But when the blade sprang up and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 27 And the [e]servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it tares? 28 And he said unto them, [f]An enemy hath done this. And the [g]servants say unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? 29 But he saith, Nay; lest haply while ye gather up the tares, ye root up the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather up first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn.

31 Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like unto a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: 32 which indeed is less than all seeds; but when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the heaven come and lodge in the branches thereof.

33 Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three [h]measures of meal, till it was all leavened.

34 All these things spake Jesus in parables unto the multitudes; and without a parable spake he nothing unto them: 35 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying,

[i]I will open my mouth in parables;
I will utter things hidden from the foundation [j]of the world.

36 Then he left the multitudes, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Explain unto us the parable of the tares of the field. 37 And he answered and said, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; 38 and the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom; and the tares are the sons of the evil one; 39 and the enemy that sowed them is the devil: and the harvest is [k]the end of the world; and the reapers are angels. 40 As therefore the tares are gathered up and burned with fire; so shall it be in [l]the end of the world. 41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that cause stumbling, and them that do iniquity, 42 and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. 43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He that hath ears, [m]let him hear.

44 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in the field; which a man found, and hid; and [n]in his joy he goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a merchant seeking goodly pearls: 46 and having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a [o]net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: 48 which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach; and they sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but the bad they cast away. 49 So shall it be in [p]the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the righteous, 50 and shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth.

51 Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea. 52 And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who hath been made a disciple to the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

53 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished these parables, he departed thence.

54 And coming into his own country he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these [q]mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, [r]James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judas? 56 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? 57 And they were [s]offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country, and in his own house. 58 And he did not many [t]mighty works there because of their unbelief.

The Parable of the Sower(A)(B)(C)

13 That same day Jesus went out of the house(D) and sat by the lake. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat(E) and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred,(F) sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.”(G)

10 The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”

11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven(H) has been given to you,(I) but not to them. 12 Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them.(J) 13 This is why I speak to them in parables:

“Though seeing, they do not see;
    though hearing, they do not hear or understand.(K)

14 In them is fulfilled(L) the prophecy of Isaiah:

“‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding;
    you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
15 For this people’s heart has become calloused;
    they hardly hear with their ears,
    and they have closed their eyes.
Otherwise they might see with their eyes,
    hear with their ears,
    understand with their hearts
and turn, and I would heal them.’[a](M)

16 But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.(N) 17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see(O) but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.

18 “Listen then to what the parable of the sower means: 19 When anyone hears the message about the kingdom(P) and does not understand it, the evil one(Q) comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. 20 The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. 21 But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.(R) 22 The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth(S) choke the word, making it unfruitful. 23 But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”(T)

The Parable of the Weeds

24 Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like(U) a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.

27 “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’

28 “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.

“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’

29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’”(V)

The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast(W)(X)

31 He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like(Y) a mustard seed,(Z) which a man took and planted in his field. 32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”(AA)

33 He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like(AB) yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds[b] of flour(AC) until it worked all through the dough.”(AD)

34 Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.(AE) 35 So was fulfilled(AF) what was spoken through the prophet:

“I will open my mouth in parables,
    I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.”[c](AG)

The Parable of the Weeds Explained

36 Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable(AH) of the weeds in the field.”

37 He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.(AI) 38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one,(AJ) 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest(AK) is the end of the age,(AL) and the harvesters are angels.(AM)

40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man(AN) will send out his angels,(AO) and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(AP) 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun(AQ) in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.(AR)

The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl

44 “The kingdom of heaven is like(AS) treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.(AT)

45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like(AU) a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

The Parable of the Net

47 “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like(AV) a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds(AW) of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous(AX) 50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(AY)

51 “Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked.

“Yes,” they replied.

52 He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”

A Prophet Without Honor(AZ)

53 When Jesus had finished these parables,(BA) he moved on from there. 54 Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue,(BB) and they were amazed.(BC) “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked. 55 “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?(BD) Isn’t his mother’s(BE) name Mary, and aren’t his brothers(BF) James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56 Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” 57 And they took offense(BG) at him.

But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”(BH)

58 And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
