Liknelsen om lantbrukaren som sådde säd
(Mark 4:1-9; Luk 8:4-8)
13 Senare samma dag gick Jesus hemifrån och satte sig nere vid sjön. 2 Och snart hade det samlats så mycket folk omkring honom att han var tvungen att stiga i en båt och sitta i den och tala, medan folket stod på stranden. 3 Han berättade för dem många liknelser:
”En lantbrukare gick ut på sin åker för att så. 4 När han sådde föll en del av sädeskornen på vägen bredvid, och fåglarna kom och åt upp dem. 5 En del korn föll där marken var stenig och jordlagret tunt. De växte snabbt upp i den tunna myllan, 6 men när solen steg vissnade de bort, eftersom de saknade rot. 7 Andra föll bland tistlarna, och när tistlarna växte upp kvävde de plantorna. 8 Men en del korn föll i bördig jord och gav skörd, hundra, sextio och trettio gånger så mycket säd som hade såtts. 9 Lyssna, hör, den som har öron!”
Jesus förklarar liknelsen om sådden
(Mark 4:10-20; Luk 8:9-15; 10:23-24)
10 Jesus lärjungar kom senare fram till honom och frågade: ”Varför berättar du liknelser för folket?”
11 Då svarade han: ”Ni har fått gåvan att förstå himmelrikets hemligheter, men andra har inte fått den gåvan. 12 Den som har ska få ännu mer. Men den som inget har ska bli av med även det han har. 13 Det är därför jag berättar de här liknelserna,
’så att de ska se och höra, men ändå inte se,
    höra och förstå.’
14 Så går det i uppfyllelse som förutsagts om dem genom profeten Jesaja:
’Ni lyssnar och lyssnar men fattar inget.
    Ni tittar och tittar men ser inget.
15 Det här folkets hjärta är hårt.
    Deras hörsel är avtrubbad,
så att de inte kan höra,
    och de har slutit sina ögon,
så att de inte kan se med sina ögon
    eller höra med sina öron.
Därför kan de inte förstå i sitt hjärta
    och inte vända om och bli botade av mig.’[a]
16 Men era ögon är lyckliga som kan se och era öron som kan höra. 17 För sannerligen säger jag er, att många profeter och rättfärdiga längtade efter att få se och höra det som ni nu får se och höra, men de fick aldrig göra det.
18 Hör nu vad som menas med liknelsen om lantbrukaren som sådde säd: 19 När någon hör ordet om riket men inte förstår, kommer den Onde och rycker bort sådden ur hans hjärta. Det är sådden längs stigen. 20 Den steniga markens sådd är den som hör ordet och tar emot det med glädje, 21 men som saknar rot inom sig och bara består en kort tid. När sedan lidanden eller förföljelser kommer på grund av ordet, faller han genast bort. 22 Sådden bland tistlar är den som hör ordet men låter världsliga bekymmer och rikedomens lockelser kväva det, så att det blir fruktlöst. 23 Men den bördiga jorden är den som lyssnar till ordet och förstår det och bär frukt, en skörd som är hundra, sextio eller trettio gånger så mycket som den sådd som såddes.”
Liknelsen om ogräset och vetet
24 Jesus berättade en annan liknelse för folket:
”Himmelriket är likt en man som sådde god säd i en åker. 25 En natt då alla låg och sov kom hans fiende och sådde ogräs bland vetet och smög bort därifrån. 26 När säden sedan började växa och gå i ax, växte också ogräset upp.
27 Då gick tjänarna och berättade för mannen: ’Herre, det är ogräs på åkern där du ju sådde den goda säden! Var kom det ifrån?’ 28 ’Det måste vara en fiende som har varit där’, svarade han.
Männen frågade då: ’Ska vi rycka upp ogräset?’ 29 ’Nej’, sa han, ’då kommer ni att skada vetet samtidigt. 30 Låt båda växa tillsammans tills det blir dags att skörda. Och när skördetiden kommer ska jag säga till skördemännen: Sortera först bort ogräset och bunta ihop det så att det kan brännas upp. Samla sedan in vetet i min lada.’ ”
Liknelsen om senapsfröet
(Mark 4:30-32; Luk 13:18-19)
31 Han berättade en annan liknelse för dem:
”Himmelriket är som när en man sår ett senapsfrö i en åker. 32 Det är det minsta[b] av alla frön, men när det har växt upp är det störst bland kryddväxterna och blir till ett träd, där fåglarna kan komma och bygga bo bland grenarna.”
Liknelsen om surdegen
(Mark 4:33-34; Luk 13:20-21)
33 Han berättade också en annan liknelse:
”Himmelriket är som när en kvinna blandar in surdeg i tre mått mjöl, så att hela degen blir syrad.”
34 Allt detta berättade Jesus för folket genom att använda liknelser. Han talade aldrig till dem utan en liknelse, 35 för att det skulle uppfyllas som förutsagts genom en profet:
”Jag vill öppna min mun för liknelser,
    jag ska yttra hemligheter gömda sedan världens skapelse.”[c]
Jesus förklarar liknelsen om ogräset och vetet
36 Sedan lämnade Jesus folket och gick hem, och hans lärjungar kom och bad honom förklara liknelsen om ogräset och vetet.
37 Han svarade: ”Människosonen är den som sår den goda säden. 38 Åkern är världen, säden är rikets barn, och ogräset den Ondes. 39 Fienden, som sådde det, är djävulen. Skördetiden är tidsålderns slut, och skördemännen är änglar.
40 Som när ogräset skiljs från vetet och bränns upp, så ska det vara vid tidsålderns slut. 41 Människosonen ska sända ut sina änglar, och de ska rensa hans rike från alla dem som förleder andra och gör det som är mot lagen, 42 och de ska kasta dem i den brinnande ugnen. Där ska man gråta och skära tänder. 43 Men de rättfärdiga ska lysa som solen i sin Faders rike. Lyssna, den som har öron!
Liknelserna om skatten i åkern, den värdefulla pärlan och fisknätet
44 Himmelriket är som när en man upptäcker en skatt i en åker. I sin iver gräver han ner skatten igen och går och säljer allt han äger för att kunna köpa åkern.
45 Himmelriket är också som när en köpman är på jakt efter dyrbara pärlor. 46 Då han upptäcker en värdefull pärla, går han iväg och säljer allt han äger för att kunna köpa den.
47 Himmelriket är också som när man kastar ut ett nät i sjön för att fånga fiskar av olika slag. 48 När nätet är fullt drar man upp det på stranden och sätter sig ner och sorterar fisken. De ätbara fiskarna lägger man i en korg, men de andra slänger man bort.
49 Så ska det vara vid tidsålderns slut. Änglarna ska komma och skilja de onda människorna från de rättfärdiga, 50 och sedan kasta de onda i den brinnande ugnen. Där ska man gråta och skära tänder. 51 Har ni nu förstått alla dessa liknelser?” ”Ja”, sa de, ”det har vi.”
52 Då sa han: ”Det betyder att varje skriftlärd som blivit himmelrikets lärjunge är som en husbonde som ur sitt förråd kan ta fram både av det nya och det gamla.”
Människorna i Nasaret vägrar att tro
(Mark 6:1-6; Luk 4:16-30)
53 När Jesus hade berättat alla dessa liknelser, lämnade han platsen. 54 Han kom sedan till sin hemstad. Där undervisade han i synagogan, och han förvånade alla med sin vishet och sina under. De sa:
55 ”Det är ju bara snickarens son. Är inte hans mor Maria, och hans bröder Jakob, Josef, Simon och Judas, 56 och alla hans systrar bor väl här? Var har han fått allt detta ifrån?” 57 Och de retade sig på honom.
Då sa Jesus till dem: ”En profet blir föraktad bara i sin egen hemstad och i sin egen familj.” 58 Och på grund av deras otro gjorde han bara några få under där.

The Parable of the Sower Explained(R)
18 (S)“Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word (T)of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately (U)receives it with joy; 21 yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. The Parable of the Mustard Seed(AB)

The Parable of the Tares Explained

The Parable of the Hidden Treasure

The parable of the sower
13 That very day Jesus went out of the house and sat down beside the sea. 2 Large crowds gathered around him, so he got into a boat and sat down. The whole crowd was standing on the shore.
3 He had much to say to them, and he said it all in parables.
“Listen!” he said. “Once there was a sower who went out to sow. 4 As he sowed, some seed fell beside the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some seed fell on rocky soil, where it didn’t have much earth. It sprang up at once because it had no depth of soil. 6 But when the sun was high it got scorched, and it withered because it didn’t have any root. 7 Other seed fell in among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. 8 Other seed fell into good soil, and produced a crop, some a hundred times over, some sixty, and some thirty times over. 9 If you’ve got ears, then listen!”
The reason for parables
10 His disciples came to him.
“Why are you speaking to them in parables?” they asked.
11 “You’ve been given the gift of knowing the secrets of the kingdom of heaven,” he replied, “but they haven’t been given it. 12 Anyone who already has something will be given more, and they will have plenty. But anyone who has nothing—even what they have will be taken away! 13 That’s why I speak to them in parables, so that they may look but not see, and hear but not understand or take it in. 14 Isaiah’s prophecy is coming true in them:
You will listen and listen but won’t understand,
you will look and look but not see.
15 This people’s heart has gone flabby and fat,
their ears are muffled and dull,
their eyes are darkened and shut;
so that they won’t see with their eyes
or hear with their ears, or know in their heart,
or turn back again for me to restore them.
16 “But there’s great news for your eyes: they can see! And for your ears: they can hear! 17 I’m telling you the truth: many prophets and holy people longed to see what you see and didn’t see it, and to hear what you hear and didn’t hear it.”
The parable of the sower explained
18 “All right, then,” Jesus continued, “this is what the sower story is all about. 19 When someone hears the word of the kingdom and doesn’t understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This corresponds to what was sown beside the path. 20 What was sown on rocky ground is the person who hears the word and immediately receives it with delight, 21 but doesn’t have any root of their own. Someone like that only lasts a short time; as soon as there’s any trouble or persecution because of the word, they trip up at once. 22 The one sown among thorns is the one who hears the word, but the world’s worries and the seduction of wealth choke the word and it doesn’t bear fruit. 23 But the one sown on good soil is the one who hears the word and understands it. Someone like that will bear fruit: one will produce a hundred times over, another sixty, and another thirty times over.”
The parable of the weeds
24 He put another parable to them.
“The kingdom of heaven,” he said, “is like this! Once upon a time a man sowed good seed in his field. 25 While the workers were asleep, his enemy came and sowed weeds in among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the crop came up and produced wheat, then the weeds appeared as well.
27 “So the farmer’s servants came to him.
“ ‘Master,’ they said, ‘didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?’
28 “ ‘This is the work of an enemy,’ he replied.
“ ‘So,’ the servants said to him, ‘do you want us to go and pull them up?’
29 “ ‘No,’ he replied. ‘If you do that you’ll probably pull up the wheat as well, while you’re collecting the weeds. 30 Let them both grow together until the harvest. Then, when it’s time for harvest, I will give the reapers this instruction: First gather the weeds and tie them up in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.’ ”
31 He put another parable to them.
“The kingdom of heaven,” he said, “is like a grain of mustard seed, which someone took and sowed in his field. 32 It’s the smallest of all the seeds, but when it grows it turns into the biggest of the shrubs. It becomes a tree, and the birds in the sky can then come and nest in its branches.”
33 He told them another parable.
“The kingdom of heaven is like leaven,” he said, “which a woman took and hid inside three measures of flour, until the whole thing was leavened.”
34 Jesus said all these things to the crowds in parables. He didn’t speak to them without a parable. 35 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet:
I will open my mouth in parables,
I will tell the things that were hidden
since the very foundation of the world.
The parable of the weeds explained
36 Then Jesus left the crowds and went into the house. His disciples came and joined him.
“Explain to us,” they said, “the parable of the weeds in the field.”
37 “The one who sows the good seed,” said Jesus, “is the son of man. 38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one; 39 the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the close of the age, and the reapers are angels.
40 “So: when the weeds are gathered and burned in the fire, that’s what it will be like at the close of the age. 41 The son of man will send out his angels, and they will collect together out of his kingdom everything that causes offense, and everyone who acts wickedly. 42 They will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their father. If you have ears, then hear!”
Other parables
44 “The kingdom of heaven,” Jesus continued, “is like treasure hidden in a field. Someone found it and hid it, and in great delight went off and sold everything he possessed, and bought that field.
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a trader who was looking for fine pearls, 46 and who found one that was spectacularly valuable. He went off and sold everything he possessed, and bought it.
47 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea, and collected every type of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen brought it to shore. They sat down and selected the good ones, which they put into a bucket; but they threw out the bad ones. 49 That’s what it will be like at the close of the age. The angels will go off and separate the wicked from the righteous, 50 and they will throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
51 “Have you understood all this?” asked Jesus.
“Yes,” they answered.
52 “Well, then,” he said to them, “every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his storeroom some new things and some old things.”
53 When Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there.
Opposition in Nazareth
54 Jesus came to the town where he had been brought up. He taught them in their synagogue, and they were astonished.
“Where did this fellow get this wisdom, and these powers?” they said.
55 “Isn’t he the carpenter’s son? Isn’t his mother called Mary, and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judah? 56 And aren’t all his sisters here with us? So where does he get it all from?” 57 They were offended by him.
So Jesus said to them, “No prophet lacks respect—except in his own town and his own house!”
58 And he didn’t perform many mighty works there, because they didn’t believe.

    they hardly hear with their ears,

27 “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’
28 “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.
“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’”(V)

31 He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like(Y) a mustard seed,(Z) which a man took and planted in his field. 32 Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches.”(AA)
33 He told them still another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like(AB) yeast that a woman took and mixed into about sixty pounds[b] of flour(AC) until it worked all through the dough.”(AD)
34 Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable.(AE) 35 So was fulfilled(AF) what was spoken through the prophet:
“I will open my mouth in parables,
    I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.”[c](AG)
The Parable of the Weeds Explained
36 Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable(AH) of the weeds in the field.”
37 He answered, “The one who sowed the good seed is the Son of Man.(AI) 38 The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one,(AJ) 39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest(AK) is the end of the age,(AL) and the harvesters are angels.(AM)
40 “As the weeds are pulled up and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. 41 The Son of Man(AN) will send out his angels,(AO) and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil. 42 They will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(AP) 43 Then the righteous will shine like the sun(AQ) in the kingdom of their Father. Whoever has ears, let them hear.(AR)
The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl
44 “The kingdom of heaven is like(AS) treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.(AT)
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like(AU) a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46 When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.
The Parable of the Net
47 “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like(AV) a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds(AW) of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous(AX) 50 and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(AY)
51 “Have you understood all these things?” Jesus asked.
“Yes,” they replied.
52 He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.”
A Prophet Without Honor(AZ)
53 When Jesus had finished these parables,(BA) he moved on from there. 54 Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their synagogue,(BB) and they were amazed.(BC) “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers?” they asked. 55 “Isn’t this the carpenter’s son?(BD) Isn’t his mother’s(BE) name Mary, and aren’t his brothers(BF) James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56 Aren’t all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” 57 And they took offense(BG) at him.
But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”(BH)
58 And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.
