2. DISCORSO ESCATOLOGICO

Introduzione

24 Mentre Gesù, uscito dal tempio, se ne andava, gli si avvicinarono i suoi discepoli per fargli osservare le costruzioni del tempio. 2 Gesù disse loro: «Vedete tutte queste cose? In verità vi dico, non resterà qui pietra su pietra che non venga diroccata».

3 Sedutosi poi sul monte degli Ulivi, i suoi discepoli gli si avvicinarono e, in disparte, gli dissero: «Dicci quando accadranno queste cose, e quale sarà il segno della tua venuta e della fine del mondo».

L'inizio dei dolori

4 Gesù rispose: «Guardate che nessuno vi inganni; 5 molti verranno nel mio nome, dicendo: Io sono il Cristo, e trarranno molti in inganno. 6 Sentirete poi parlare di guerre e di rumori di guerre. Guardate di non allarmarvi; è necessario che tutto questo avvenga, ma non è ancora la fine. 7 Si solleverà popolo contro popolo e regno contro regno; vi saranno carestie e terremoti in vari luoghi; 8 ma tutto questo è solo l'inizio dei dolori. 9 Allora vi consegneranno ai supplizi e vi uccideranno, e sarete odiati da tutti i popoli a causa del mio nome. 10 Molti ne resteranno scandalizzati, ed essi si tradiranno e odieranno a vicenda. 11 Sorgeranno molti falsi profeti e inganneranno molti; 12 per il dilagare dell'iniquità, l'amore di molti si raffredderà. 13 Ma chi persevererà sino alla fine, sarà salvato. 14 Frattanto questo vangelo del regno sarà annunziato in tutto il mondo, perché ne sia resa testimonianza a tutte le genti; e allora verrà la fine.

La grande tribolazione di Gerusalemme

15 Quando dunque vedrete l'abominio della desolazione, di cui parlò il profeta Daniele, stare nel luogo santo - chi legge comprenda -, 16 allora quelli che sono in Giudea fuggano ai monti, 17 chi si trova sulla terrazza non scenda a prendere la roba di casa, 18 e chi si trova nel campo non torni indietro a prendersi il mantello. 19 Guai alle donne incinte e a quelle che allatteranno in quei giorni. 20 Pregate perché la vostra fuga non accada d'inverno o di sabato.

21 Poiché vi sarà allora una tribolazione grande, quale mai avvenne dall'inizio del mondo fino a ora, né mai più ci sarà. 22 E se quei giorni non fossero abbreviati, nessun vivente si salverebbe; ma a causa degli eletti quei giorni saranno abbreviati. 23 Allora se qualcuno vi dirà: Ecco, il Cristo è qui, o: E' là, non ci credete. 24 Sorgeranno infatti falsi cristi e falsi profeti e faranno grandi portenti e miracoli, così da indurre in errore, se possibile, anche gli eletti. 25 Ecco, io ve l'ho predetto.

L'avvento del Figlio dell'uomo sarà manifestato

26 Se dunque vi diranno: Ecco, è nel deserto, non ci andate; o: E' in casa, non ci credete. 27 Come la folgore viene da oriente e brilla fino a occidente, così sarà la venuta del Figlio dell'uomo. 28 Dovunque sarà il cadavere, ivi si raduneranno gli avvoltoi.

Dimensione cosmica di questo avvento

29 Subito dopo la tribolazione di quei giorni,

il sole si oscurerà, la luna non darà più la sua luce, gli astri cadranno dal cielo e le potenze dei cieli saranno sconvolte.

30 Allora comparirà nel cielo il segno del Figlio dell'uomo e allora si batteranno il petto tutte le tribù della terra, e vedranno il Figlio dell'uomo venire sopra le nubi del cielo con grande potenza e gloria. 31 Egli manderà i suoi angeli con una grande tromba e raduneranno tutti i suoi eletti dai quattro venti, da un estremo all'altro dei cieli.

Parabola del fico

32 Dal fico poi imparate la parabola: quando ormai il suo ramo diventa tenero e spuntano le foglie, sapete che l'estate è vicina. 33 Così anche voi, quando vedrete tutte queste cose, sappiate che Egli è proprio alle porte. 34 In verità vi dico: non passerà questa generazione prima che tutto questo accada. 35 Il cielo e la terra passeranno, ma le mie parole non passeranno.

36 Quanto a quel giorno e a quell'ora, però, nessuno lo sa, neanche gli angeli del cielo e neppure il Figlio, ma solo il Padre.

Vegliare per non essere sorpresi

37 Come fu ai giorni di Noè, così sarà la venuta del Figlio dell'uomo. 38 Infatti, come nei giorni che precedettero il diluvio mangiavano e bevevano, prendevano moglie e marito, fino a quando Noè entrò nell'arca, 39 e non si accorsero di nulla finché venne il diluvio e inghiottì tutti, così sarà anche alla venuta del Figlio dell'uomo. 40 Allora due uomini saranno nel campo: uno sarà preso e l'altro lasciato. 41 Due donne macineranno alla mola: una sarà presa e l'altra lasciata.

42 Vegliate dunque, perché non sapete in quale giorno il Signore vostro verrà. 43 Questo considerate: se il padrone di casa sapesse in quale ora della notte viene il ladro, veglierebbe e non si lascerebbe scassinare la casa. 44 Perciò anche voi state pronti, perché nell'ora che non immaginate, il Figlio dell'uomo verrà.

Parabola del maggiordomo

45 Qual è dunque il servo fidato e prudente che il padrone ha preposto ai suoi domestici con l'incarico di dar loro il cibo al tempo dovuto? 46 Beato quel servo che il padrone al suo ritorno troverà ad agire così! 47 In verità vi dico: gli affiderà l'amministrazione di tutti i suoi beni. 48 Ma se questo servo malvagio dicesse in cuor suo: Il mio padrone tarda a venire, 49 e cominciasse a percuotere i suoi compagni e a bere e a mangiare con gli ubriaconi, 50 arriverà il padrone quando il servo non se l'aspetta e nell'ora che non sa, 51 lo punirà con rigore e gli infliggerà la sorte che gli ipocriti si meritano: e là sarà pianto e stridore di denti.

24 耶稣出了圣殿，正走的时候，门徒进前来，把殿宇指给他看。 2 耶稣对他们说：“你们不是看见这殿宇吗？我实在告诉你们：将来在这里没有一块石头留在石头上不被拆毁了。”

耶稣降临的预兆

3 耶稣在橄榄山上坐着，门徒暗暗地来，说：“请告诉我们，什么时候有这些事？你降临和世界的末了有什么预兆呢？” 4 耶稣回答说：“你们要谨慎，免得有人迷惑你们。 5 因为将来有好些人冒我的名来，说：‘我是基督’，并且要迷惑许多人。 6 你们也要听见打仗和打仗的风声，总不要惊慌，因为这些事是必须有的，只是末期还没有到。 7 民要攻打民，国要攻打国，多处必有饥荒、地震， 8 这都是灾难[a]的起头。 9 那时，人要把你们陷在患难里，也要杀害你们；你们又要为我的名被万民恨恶。

忍耐到底必要得救

10 “那时，必有许多人跌倒，也要彼此陷害、彼此恨恶， 11 且有好些假先知起来，迷惑多人。 12 只因不法的事增多，许多人的爱心才渐渐冷淡了。 13 唯有忍耐到底的，必然得救。 14 这天国的福音要传遍天下，对万民作见证，然后末期才来到。

15 “你们看见先知但以理所说的‘那行毁坏可憎的’站在圣地——读这经的人须要会意—— 16 那时，在犹太的，应当逃到山上； 17 在房上的，不要下来拿家里的东西； 18 在田里的，也不要回去取衣裳。 19 当那些日子，怀孕的和奶孩子的有祸了！

为选民要减少灾难的日子

20 “你们应当祈求，叫你们逃走的时候，不遇见冬天或是安息日。 21 因为那时必有大灾难，从世界的起头直到如今没有这样的灾难，后来也必没有。 22 若不减少那日子，凡有血气的总没有一个得救的；只是为选民，那日子必减少了。 23 那时，若有人对你们说‘基督在这里’，或说‘基督在那里’，你们不要信。 24 因为假基督、假先知将要起来，显大神迹、大奇事，倘若能行，连选民也就迷惑了。 25 看哪，我预先告诉你们了！ 26 若有人对你们说‘看哪，基督在旷野里’，你们不要出去；或说‘看哪，基督在内屋中’，你们不要信。 27 闪电从东边发出，直照到西边，人子降临也要这样。 28 尸首在哪里，鹰也必聚在那里。

29 “那些日子的灾难一过去，‘日头就变黑了，月亮也不放光，众星要从天上坠落，天势都要震动。’ 30 那时，人子的兆头要显在天上，地上的万族都要哀哭。他们要看见人子有能力、有大荣耀驾着天上的云降临。 31 他要差遣使者，用号筒的大声，将他的选民从四方[b]，从天这边到天那边，都招聚了来。

从无花果树学比方

32 “你们可以从无花果树学个比方。当树枝发嫩长叶的时候，你们就知道夏天近了。 33 这样，你们看见这一切的事，也该知道人子近了，正在门口了。 34 我实在告诉你们：这世代还没有过去，这些事都要成就。 35 天地要废去，我的话却不能废去。 36 但那日子、那时辰，没有人知道，连天上的使者也不知道，子也不知道，唯独父知道。 37 挪亚的日子怎样，人子降临也要怎样。 38 当洪水以前的日子，人照常吃喝嫁娶，直到挪亚进方舟的那日， 39 不知不觉洪水来了，把他们全都冲去。人子降临也要这样。 40 那时，两个人在田里，取去一个，撇下一个； 41 两个女人推磨，取去一个，撇下一个。 42 所以，你们要警醒，因为不知道你们的主是哪一天来到。 43 家主若知道几更天有贼来，就必警醒，不容人挖透房屋，这是你们所知道的。 44 所以，你们也要预备，因为你们想不到的时候，人子就来了。

善仆与恶仆的报应

45 “谁是忠心有见识的仆人，为主人所派管理家里的人，按时分粮给他们呢？ 46 主人来到，看见他这样行，那仆人就有福了。 47 我实在告诉你们：主人要派他管理一切所有的。 48 倘若那恶仆心里说‘我的主人必来得迟’， 49 就动手打他的同伴，又和酒醉的人一同吃喝， 50 在想不到的日子，不知道的时辰，那仆人的主人要来， 51 重重地处治他[c]，定他和假冒为善的人同罪，在那里必要哀哭切齿了。

24 Jesús salió del templo, y ya se iba cuando sus discípulos se acercaron para mostrarle los edificios del templo. 2 Él les dijo: «¿Ven todo esto? De cierto les digo, que no quedará aquí piedra sobre piedra. Todo será derribado.»

Señales antes del fin(B)

3 Mientras Jesús estaba sentado en el monte de los Olivos, los discípulos se le acercaron por separado, y le dijeron: «Dinos, ¿cuándo sucederá todo esto, y cuál será la señal de tu venida y del fin del mundo?» 4 Jesús les respondió: «Cuídense de que nadie los engañe. 5 Porque muchos vendrán en mi nombre, y dirán: “Yo soy el Cristo”, y engañarán a muchos. 6 Ustedes oirán hablar de guerras y de rumores de guerras; pero no se angustien, porque es necesario que todo esto suceda; pero aún no será el fin. 7 Porque se levantará nación contra nación, y reino contra reino, y habrá hambre y terremotos en distintos lugares. 8 Todo esto será sólo el comienzo de los dolores.

9 »Entonces los entregarán a ustedes para ser torturados, y los matarán, y todos los odiarán por causa de mi nombre.(C) 10 En aquel tiempo muchos tropezarán, y unos a otros se traicionarán y odiarán. 11 Muchos falsos profetas se levantarán, y engañarán a muchos; 12 y tanto aumentará la maldad que el amor de muchos se enfriará. 13 Pero el que resista hasta el fin, será salvo.(D) 14 Y este evangelio del reino será predicado en todo el mundo para testimonio a todas las naciones, y entonces vendrá el fin.

15 »Por tanto, cuando en el lugar santo vean la abominación desoladora, de la que habló el profeta Daniel(E) (el que lee, que entienda), 16 los que estén en Judea, huyan a los montes; 17 El que esté en la azotea, no baje para llevarse algo de su casa; 18 y el que esté en el campo, no vuelva atrás a tomar su capa.(F) 19 Pero ¡ay de las que en esos días estén embarazadas o amamantando! 20 Pídanle a Dios que no tengan que huir en invierno ni en día de reposo, 21 porque entonces habrá una gran tribulación,(G) como no la ha habido desde el principio del mundo hasta ahora, ni la habrá jamás. 22 Si aquellos días no fueran acortados, nadie sería salvo, pero serán acortados por causa de los escogidos. 23 Así que, si alguien les dice: “Miren, aquí está el Cristo”, o “Miren, allí está”, no lo crean. 24 Porque surgirán falsos cristos y falsos profetas, y harán grandes señales y prodigios, de tal manera que, de ser posible, engañarán incluso a los elegidos. 25 Ya los he prevenido de todo. 26 Así que, si les dicen: “Miren, está en el desierto”, no vayan; o si les dicen: “Miren, está en los aposentos”, no lo crean. 27 Porque la venida del Hijo del Hombre será como el relámpago que sale del oriente y puede verse hasta el occidente.(H) 28 Porque los buitres se juntan donde está el cadáver.(I)

La venida del Hijo del Hombre(J)

29 »Inmediatamente después de la aflicción de aquellos días, el sol se oscurecerá y la luna dejará de brillar, las estrellas caerán del cielo,(K) y los poderes celestiales se estremecerán. 30 Entonces aparecerá en el cielo la señal del Hijo del Hombre, y todas las tribus de la tierra se lamentarán, y verán al Hijo del Hombre venir sobre las nubes del cielo,(L) con gran poder y gloria. 31 Y enviará a sus ángeles con gran voz de trompeta, y de los cuatro vientos, desde un extremo al otro del cielo, ellos juntarán a sus elegidos.

32 »De la higuera deben aprender esta parábola: Cuando sus ramas se ponen tiernas, y le brotan las hojas, ustedes saben que el verano ya está cerca. 33 De la misma manera, cuando ustedes vean todas estas cosas, sepan que la hora ya está cerca, y que está a la puerta. 34 De cierto les digo, que todo esto sucederá antes de que pase esta generación. 35 El cielo y la tierra pasarán, pero mis palabras no pasarán.

36 »En cuanto al día y la hora, nadie lo sabe, ni siquiera los ángeles de los cielos. Sólo mi Padre lo sabe. 37 La venida del Hijo del Hombre será como en los días de Noé;(M) 38 pues así como en los días antes del diluvio la gente comía y bebía, y se casaba y daba en casamiento, hasta el día en que Noé entró en el arca, 39 y no entendieron hasta que vino el diluvio y se los llevó a todos,(N) así será también la venida del Hijo del Hombre. 40 Entonces, estarán dos en el campo, y uno de ellos será tomado, y el otro será dejado. 41 Dos mujeres estarán en el molino, y una de ellas será tomada, y la otra será dejada. 42 Por tanto, estén atentos, porque no saben a qué hora va a venir su Señor. 43 Pero sepan esto, que si el dueño de la casa supiera a qué hora va a venir el ladrón, se quedaría despierto y no dejaría que robaran su casa. 44 Por tanto, también ustedes estén preparados, porque el Hijo del Hombre vendrá a la hora que menos lo esperen.(O)

45 »¿Quién es el siervo fiel y prudente, al cual su señor deja encargado de los de su casa para que los alimente a su tiempo? 46 Bien por el siervo que, cuando su señor venga, lo encuentre haciendo así. 47 De cierto les digo que lo pondrá a cargo de todos sus bienes. 48 Pero si aquel siervo malo dice en su corazón: “Mi señor tarda en venir”, 49 y comienza a golpear a sus consiervos, y aun a comer y a beber con los borrachos, 50 el señor de aquel siervo vendrá en el día menos pensado, y a una hora que nadie sabe, 51 y lo castigará duramente, y le hará correr la misma suerte de los hipócritas. Allí habrá llanto y rechinar de dientes.

Señales antes del fin

3 Y estando él sentado en el monte de los Olivos, los discípulos se le acercaron aparte, diciendo: Dinos, ¿cuándo serán estas cosas, y qué señal habrá de tu venida, y del fin del siglo? 4 Respondiendo Jesús, les dijo: Mirad que nadie os engañe. 5 Porque vendrán muchos en mi nombre, diciendo: Yo soy el Cristo; y a muchos engañarán. 6 Y oiréis de guerras y rumores de guerras; mirad que no os turbéis, porque es necesario que todo esto acontezca; pero aún no es el fin. 7 Porque se levantará nación contra nación, y reino contra reino; y habrá pestes, y hambres, y terremotos en diferentes lugares. 8 Y todo esto será principio de dolores.

9 Entonces os entregarán a tribulación, y os matarán, y seréis aborrecidos de todas las gentes por causa de mi nombre.(A) 10 Muchos tropezarán entonces, y se entregarán unos a otros, y unos a otros se aborrecerán. 11 Y muchos falsos profetas se levantarán, y engañarán a muchos; 12 y por haberse multiplicado la maldad, el amor de muchos se enfriará. 13 Mas el que persevere hasta el fin, este será salvo.(B) 14 Y será predicado este evangelio del reino en todo el mundo, para testimonio a todas las naciones; y entonces vendrá el fin.

15 Por tanto, cuando veáis en el lugar santo la abominación desoladora de que habló el profeta Daniel(C) (el que lee, entienda), 16 entonces los que estén en Judea, huyan a los montes. 17 El que esté en la azotea, no descienda para tomar algo de su casa; 18 y el que esté en el campo, no vuelva atrás para tomar su capa.(D) 19 Mas ¡ay de las que estén encintas, y de las que críen en aquellos días! 20 Orad, pues, que vuestra huida no sea en invierno ni en día de reposo;[a] 21 porque habrá entonces gran tribulación,(E) cual no la ha habido desde el principio del mundo hasta ahora, ni la habrá. 22 Y si aquellos días no fuesen acortados, nadie sería salvo; mas por causa de los escogidos, aquellos días serán acortados. 23 Entonces, si alguno os dijere: Mirad, aquí está el Cristo, o mirad, allí está, no lo creáis. 24 Porque se levantarán falsos Cristos, y falsos profetas, y harán grandes señales y prodigios, de tal manera que engañarán, si fuere posible, aun a los escogidos. 25 Ya os lo he dicho antes. 26 Así que, si os dijeren: Mirad, está en el desierto, no salgáis; o mirad, está en los aposentos, no lo creáis. 27 Porque como el relámpago que sale del oriente y se muestra hasta el occidente, así será también la venida del Hijo del Hombre.(F) 28 Porque dondequiera que estuviere el cuerpo muerto, allí se juntarán las águilas.(G)

La venida del Hijo del Hombre

29 E inmediatamente después de la tribulación de aquellos días, el sol se oscurecerá, y la luna no dará su resplandor, y las estrellas caerán del cielo,(H) y las potencias de los cielos serán conmovidas. 30 Entonces aparecerá la señal del Hijo del Hombre en el cielo; y entonces lamentarán todas las tribus de la tierra, y verán al Hijo del Hombre viniendo sobre las nubes del cielo,(I) con poder y gran gloria. 31 Y enviará sus ángeles con gran voz de trompeta, y juntarán a sus escogidos, de los cuatro vientos, desde un extremo del cielo hasta el otro.

32 De la higuera aprended la parábola: Cuando ya su rama está tierna, y brotan las hojas, sabéis que el verano está cerca. 33 Así también vosotros, cuando veáis todas estas cosas, conoced que está cerca, a las puertas. 34 De cierto os digo, que no pasará esta generación hasta que todo esto acontezca. 35 El cielo y la tierra pasarán, pero mis palabras no pasarán.

36 Pero del día y la hora nadie sabe, ni aun los ángeles de los cielos, sino solo mi Padre. 37 Mas como en los días de Noé,(J) así será la venida del Hijo del Hombre. 38 Porque como en los días antes del diluvio estaban comiendo y bebiendo, casándose y dando en casamiento, hasta el día en que Noé entró en el arca, 39 y no entendieron hasta que vino el diluvio y se los llevó a todos,(K) así será también la venida del Hijo del Hombre. 40 Entonces estarán dos en el campo; el uno será tomado, y el otro será dejado. 41 Dos mujeres estarán moliendo en un molino; la una será tomada, y la otra será dejada. 42 Velad, pues, porque no sabéis a qué hora ha de venir vuestro Señor. 43 Pero sabed esto, que si el padre de familia supiese a qué hora el ladrón habría de venir, velaría, y no dejaría minar su casa. 44 Por tanto, también vosotros estad preparados; porque el Hijo del Hombre vendrá a la hora que no pensáis.(L)

45 ¿Quién es, pues, el siervo fiel y prudente, al cual puso su señor sobre su casa para que les dé el alimento a tiempo? 46 Bienaventurado aquel siervo al cual, cuando su señor venga, le halle haciendo así. 47 De cierto os digo que sobre todos sus bienes le pondrá. 48 Pero si aquel siervo malo dijere en su corazón: Mi señor tarda en venir; 49 y comenzare a golpear a sus consiervos, y aun a comer y a beber con los borrachos, 50 vendrá el señor de aquel siervo en día que este no espera, y a la hora que no sabe, 51 y lo castigará duramente, y pondrá su parte con los hipócritas; allí será el lloro y el crujir de dientes.

The Destruction of the Temple and Signs of the End Times(A)

24 Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2 “Do you see all these things?” he asked. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another;(B) every one will be thrown down.”

3 As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives,(C) the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming(D) and of the end of the age?”(E)

4 Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you.(F) 5 For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah,’ and will deceive many.(G) 6 You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7 Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.(H) There will be famines(I) and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of birth pains.

9 “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted(J) and put to death,(K) and you will be hated by all nations because of me.(L) 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets(M) will appear and deceive many people.(N) 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.(O) 14 And this gospel of the kingdom(P) will be preached in the whole world(Q) as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

15 “So when you see standing in the holy place(R) ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’[a](S) spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16 then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17 Let no one on the housetop(T) go down to take anything out of the house. 18 Let no one in the field go back to get their cloak. 19 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers!(U) 20 Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.(V)

22 “If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect(W) those days will be shortened. 23 At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it.(X) 24 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders(Y) to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25 See, I have told you ahead of time.

26 “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning(Z) that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming(AA) of the Son of Man.(AB) 28 Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.(AC)

29 “Immediately after the distress of those days

“‘the sun will be darkened,
    and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
    and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’[b](AD)

30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth[c] will mourn(AE) when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven,(AF) with power and great glory.[d] 31 And he will send his angels(AG) with a loud trumpet call,(AH) and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[e] is near, right at the door.(AI) 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.(AJ) 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.(AK)

The Day and Hour Unknown(AL)(AM)

36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[f] but only the Father.(AN) 37 As it was in the days of Noah,(AO) so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage,(AP) up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39 and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.(AQ) 40 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left.(AR) 41 Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.(AS)

42 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.(AT) 43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming,(AU) he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 So you also must be ready,(AV) because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant,(AW) whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46 It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.(AX) 47 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.(AY) 48 But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ 49 and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.(AZ) 50 The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51 He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.(BA)
