2 जब यूहन्ना ह जेल म मसीह के काम के चरचा ला सुनिस, त ओह अपन चेलामन ला ओकर करा ए पुछे बर पठोईस, 3 “का तेंह ओ अस, जऊन ह अवइया रिहिस या फेर हमन कोनो दूसर के बाट जोहन।”
4 यीसू ह ओमन ला ए जबाब दीस, “तुमन जावव, अऊ जऊन बात तुमन सुनत अऊ देखत हवव, ओला यूहन्ना ला बतावव – 5 अंधरामन देखथें, खोरवामन रेंगथें, कोढ़ीमन सुध करे जावथें, भैंरा मनखेमन सुनथें, मुरदामन जी उठथें, अऊ गरीबमन ला सुघर संदेस के परचार करे जाथे।[a] 6 धइन ए ओह जऊन ह मोर ऊपर संदेह नइं करय।”
7 जब यूहन्ना के चेलामन जावत रिहिन, त यीसू ह मनखेमन ला यूहन्ना के बारे म कहन लगिस, “जब तुमन सुनसान जगह म यूहन्ना करा गेव, त तुमन का देखे के आसा करत रहेव? का हवा म डोलत बड़े घांस के पौधा ला? 8 यदि नइं! त फेर तुमन का देखे बर गे रहेव? का सुघर कपड़ा पहिरे एक मनखे ला देखे बर? जऊन मन सुघर कपड़ा पहिरथें, ओमन राजा के महल म रहिथें। 9 त तुमन का देखे बर गे रहेव? एक अगमजानी ला देखे बर? हव, मेंह तुमन ला कहथंव कि तुमन एक अगमजानी ले घलो बड़े मनखे ला देखेव। 10 यूहन्ना ह ओहीच मनखे अय, जेकर बारे म परमेसर के बचन म लिखे हवय; ‘मेंह अपन संदेसिया ला तोर आघू पठोहूं, जऊन ह तोर आघू तोर रसता ला तियार करही।’[b]
11 मेंह तुमन ला सच कहत हंव कि अभी तक जऊन मनखेमन संसार म जनमे हवंय, ओमन म कोनो घलो यूहन्ना बतिसमा देवइया ले बड़े नो हय। पर जऊन ह स्वरग के राज म सबले छोटे अय, ओह यूहन्ना ले घलो बड़े अय। 12 यूहन्ना बतिसमा देवइया के समय ले अभी तक स्वरग के राज ऊपर सतावा होय हवय अऊ सतानेवालामन ताकत के दुवारा एला अपन अधिकार म कर लेथें। 13 काबरकि जम्मो अगमजानी अऊ मूसा के कानून यूहन्ना के समय तक अगमबानी करत रिहिन। 14 अऊ यदि तुमन ए बात ला मानत हव, त जान लेवव कि ओह एलियाह अय, जऊन ह अवइया रिहिस। 15 जेकर कान हवय, ओह सुन ले।
16 मेंह ए पीढ़ी के मनखेमन के तुलना काकर ले करंव? ओमन बजार म बईठे लइकामन सहीं अंय, जऊन मन अपन दूसर संगीमन ला पुकारके कहिथंय:
17 ‘हमन तुम्हर बर बांसुरी बजाएन,
पर तुमन नइं नाचेव;
हमन रोयेन-पीटेन,
पर तुमन ला दुःख नइं होईस।’
18 काबरकि यूहन्ना आईस, पर ओह सधारन मनखे सहीं, न खावय न पीयय, त मनखेमन कहिथें, ‘ओला भूत धरे हवय।’ 19 मनखे के बेटा ह आईस अऊ ओह सधारन मनखे सहीं खाथे अऊ पीथे, त मनखेमन कहिथें, ‘देखव, ओह पेटहा अऊ पियक्कड़ अय! ओह लगान लेवइया अधिकारी अऊ पापी मन के संगवारी अय।’ पर बुद्धि ह अपन काम के दुवारा सही ठहरथे।”

2 When John,(A) who was in prison,(B) heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples 3 to ask him, “Are you the one who is to come,(C) or should we expect someone else?”
4 Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5 The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy[a] are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.(D) 6 Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”(E)
7 As John’s(F) disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness(G) to see? A reed swayed by the wind? 8 If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes? No, those who wear fine clothes are in kings’ palaces. 9 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet?(H) Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. 10 This is the one about whom it is written:
11 Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. 12 From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence,[c] and violent people have been raiding it. 13 For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.(K) 14 And if you are willing to accept it, he is the Elijah who was to come.(L) 15 Whoever has ears, let them hear.(M)
16 “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others:
17 “‘We played the pipe for you,
and you did not dance;
we sang a dirge,
and you did not mourn.’
18 For John came neither eating(N) nor drinking,(O) and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’(P) But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”

2 John the Baptist, who was now in prison, heard about all the miracles the Messiah was doing, so he sent his disciples to ask Jesus, 3 “Are you really the one we are waiting for, or shall we keep on looking?”
4 Jesus told them, “Go back to John and tell him about the miracles you’ve seen me do— 5 the blind people I’ve healed, and the lame people now walking without help, and the cured lepers, and the deaf who hear, and the dead raised to life; and tell him about my preaching the Good News to the poor. 6 Then give him this message, ‘Blessed are those who don’t doubt me.’”
7 When John’s disciples had gone, Jesus began talking about him to the crowds. “When you went out into the barren wilderness to see John, what did you expect him to be like? Grass blowing in the wind? 8 Or were you expecting to see a man dressed as a prince in a palace? 9 Or a prophet of God? Yes, and he is more than just a prophet. 10 For John is the man mentioned in the Scriptures—a messenger to precede me, to announce my coming, and prepare people to receive me.[a]
11 “Truly, of all men ever born, none shines more brightly than John the Baptist. And yet, even the lesser lights in the Kingdom of Heaven will be greater than he is! 12 And from the time John the Baptist began preaching and baptizing until now, ardent multitudes have been crowding toward the Kingdom of Heaven,[b] 13 for all the laws and prophets looked forward to the Messiah.[c] Then John appeared, 14 and if you are willing to understand what I mean, he is Elijah, the one the prophets said would come at the time the Kingdom begins.[d] 15 If ever you were willing to listen, listen now!
16 “What shall I say about this nation? These people are like children playing, who say to their little friends, 17 ‘We played wedding and you weren’t happy, so we played funeral but you weren’t sad.’ 18 For John the Baptist doesn’t even drink wine and often goes without food, and you say, ‘He’s crazy.’[e] 19 And I, the Messiah,[f] feast and drink, and you complain that I am ‘a glutton and a drinking man, and hang around with the worst sort of sinners!’ But brilliant men like you can justify your every inconsistency!”
