The Narrow Way^(A)

^13 (B)“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. ^14 [a]Because narrow is the gate and ^[b]difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

You Will Know Them by Their Fruits^(C)

^15 (D)“Beware of false prophets, ^(E)who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. ^16 (F)You will know them by their fruits. ^(G)Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? ¹⁷ Even so, ^(H)every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. ¹⁸ A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. ^19 (I)Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. ²⁰ Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

I Never Knew You^(J)

²¹ “Not everyone who says to Me, ^(K)‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who ^(L)does the will of My Father in heaven. ²² Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we ^(M)not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ ²³ And ^(N)then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; ^(O)depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Build on the Rock^(P)

²⁴ “Therefore ^(Q)whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: ²⁵ and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

²⁶ “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: ²⁷ and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

²⁸ And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that ^(R)the people were astonished at His teaching,

Build on the Rock^(A)

^46 (B)“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? ^47 (C)Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: ⁴⁸ He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was ^[a]founded on the rock. ⁴⁹ But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it ^[b]fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

Jesus Promises Another Helper

^15 (A)“If you love Me, ^[a]keep My commandments.

^21 (A)He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and ^[a]manifest Myself to him.”

^22 (B)Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?”

²³ Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, ^(C)and We will come to him and make Our home with him. ²⁴ He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and ^(D)the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.

Doers—Not Hearers Only

²¹ Therefore ^(A)lay aside all filthiness and ^[a]overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, ^(B)which is able to save your souls.

²² But ^(C)be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
