Jesus Institutes the Lord’s Supper

^14 (A)When the hour had come, He sat down, and the ^[a]twelve apostles with Him. ¹⁵ Then He said to them, “With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; ¹⁶ for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it ^(B)until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

¹⁷ Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves; ¹⁸ for ^(C)I say to you, ^[b]I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”

^19 (D)And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My ^(E)body which is given for you; ^(F)do this in remembrance of Me.”

²⁰ Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, ^(G)“This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.

³⁷ Now when they heard this, ^(A)they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”

³⁸ Then Peter said to them, ^(B)“Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the ^[a]remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For the promise is to you and ^(C)to your children, and ^(D)to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

A Vital Church Grows

⁴⁰ And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this ^[b]perverse generation.” ⁴¹ Then those who ^[c]gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

³⁶ Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. ^(A)What hinders me from being baptized?”

^37 [a]Then Philip said, ^(B)“If you believe with all your heart, you may.”

And he answered and said, ^(C)“I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”

³⁸ So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. ³⁹ Now when they came up out of the water, ^(D)the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.

³ Or do you not know that ^(A)as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus ^(B)were baptized into His death? ⁴ Therefore we were ^(C)buried with Him through baptism into death, that ^(D)just as Christ was raised from the dead by ^(E)the glory of the Father, ^(F)even so we also should walk in newness of life.

^5 (G)For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, ⁶ knowing this, that ^(H)our old man was crucified with Him, that ^(I)the body of sin might be ^[a]done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. ⁷ For ^(J)he who has died has been ^[b]freed from sin. ⁸ Now ^(K)if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, ⁹ knowing that ^(L)Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. ¹⁰ For the death that He died, ^(M)He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, ^(N)He lives to God.

Institution of the Lord’s Supper^(A)

²³ For ^(B)I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: ^(C)that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; ²⁴ and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ^[a]“Take, eat; this is My body which is ^[b]broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”
