6 Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit^(A) should restore^(B) that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.

⁷ When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone^(A) at her.”^{(B) 8} Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

⁹ At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.

⁴¹ “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? ⁴² How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

⁵ David^(A) burned with anger^(B) against the man^(C) and said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives,^(D) the man who did this must die! ⁶ He must pay for that lamb four times over,^(E) because he did such a thing and had no pity.”

¹¹ The Pharisee stood by himself^(A) and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.

¹⁶ But to the wicked person, God says:

⁹ But a prophet of the Lord named Oded was there, and he went out to meet the army when it returned to Samaria. He said to them, “Because the Lord, the God of your ancestors, was angry^(A) with Judah, he gave them into your hand. But you have slaughtered them in a rage that reaches to heaven.^{(B) 10} And now you intend to make the men and women of Judah and Jerusalem your slaves.^(C) But aren’t you also guilty of sins against the Lord your God?
