²⁸ Now when Jesus had finished saying these words, the crowds were astounded at his teaching,^(A)

⁴⁶ The police answered, “Never has anyone spoken like this!”

² On the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, “Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands!^(A)

²² All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his mouth. They said, “Is this not Joseph’s son?”^(A)

¹⁵ The Jews were astonished at it, saying, “How does this man have such learning, when he has never been taught?”^(A)

³³ And when the crowds heard it, they were astounded at his teaching.^(A)

⁵³ When Jesus had finished these parables, he left that place.^(A)

The Rejection of Jesus at Nazareth

⁵⁴ He came to his hometown and began to teach the people^[a] in their synagogue, so that they were astounded and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these deeds of power?^(B)

⁴⁸ but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were spellbound by what they heard.
