The Authority of Jesus

²⁸ And when Jesus finished these sayings, ^(A)the crowds were astonished at his teaching,

³² and ^(A)they were astonished at his teaching, ^(B)for his word possessed authority.

²² And ^(A)they were astonished at his teaching, ^(B)for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.

⁴⁶ The officers answered, ^(A)“No one ever spoke like this man!”

² And ^(A)on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and ^(B)many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands?

²² And all spoke well of him and marveled at ^(A)the gracious words that were coming from his mouth. And they said, ^(B)“Is not this ^(C)Joseph's son?”

¹⁵ The Jews therefore ^(A)marveled, saying, “How is it that this man has learning,^[a] when he has never studied?”

³³ And when the crowd heard it, ^(A)they were astonished at his teaching.

Jesus Rejected at Nazareth

⁵³ And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, ^54 (A)and coming to ^(B)his hometown ^(C)he taught them in their synagogue, so that ^(D)they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works?

⁴⁸ but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were hanging on his words.
