Judging Others

37 (A)(B)“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; (C)forgive, and you will be forgiven;

God's Righteous Judgment

Therefore you have (A)no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For (B)in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things.

11 (A)Do not speak evil against one another, brothers.[a] The one who speaks against a brother or (B)judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 12 There is only (C)one lawgiver and (D)judge, he who is able to save and (E)to destroy. But (F)who are you to judge your neighbor?

41 (A)Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but (B)do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For (A)we will all stand before (B)the judgment seat of God; 11 for it is written,

(C)“As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me,
    and every tongue shall confess[a] to God.”

12 So then (D)each of us will give an account of himself to God.

Do Not Cause Another to Stumble

13 (E)Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide (F)never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother.

  1. Romans 14:11 Or shall give praise

But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. In fact, I do not even judge myself. (A)For I am not aware of anything against myself, (B)but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore (C)do not pronounce judgment before the time, (D)before the Lord comes, (E)who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. (F)Then each one will receive his commendation from God.

Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and (A)let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. (B)Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master[a] that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

52 (A)Bear your disgrace, you also, for you have intervened on behalf of your sisters. Because of your sins in which you acted more abominably than they, they are more in the right than you. So be ashamed, you also, and bear your disgrace, for you have made your sisters appear righteous.

53 (B)“I will restore their fortunes, both the fortunes of Sodom and her daughters, and the fortunes of Samaria and her daughters, and I will restore your own fortunes in their midst, 54 that you may bear your disgrace (C)and be ashamed of all that you have done, (D)becoming a consolation to them. 55 As for your sisters, Sodom and her daughters shall return to their former state, (E)and Samaria and her daughters shall return (F)to their former state, (G)and you and your daughters shall return (H)to your former state. 56 Was not your sister Sodom a byword in your mouth (I)in the day of your pride,

(A)Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness.

Hear the word of the Lord,
