² Therefore, ^(A)when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

The Model Prayer^(A)

⁵ “And when you pray, you shall not be like the ^[a]hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

Fasting to Be Seen Only by God

¹⁶ “Moreover, ^(A)when you fast, do not be like the ^[a]hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

The Cheerful Giver

^6 (A)But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows ^[a]bountifully will also reap ^[b]bountifully. ⁷ So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, ^(B)not grudgingly or of ^[c]necessity; for ^(C)God loves a cheerful giver. ^8 (D)And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. ⁹ As it is written:

¹⁰ Now ^[d]may He who ^(F)supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, ^[e]supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your ^(G)righteousness, ¹¹ while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, ^(H)which causes thanksgiving through us to God. ¹² For the administration of this service not only ^(I)supplies the needs of the saints, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings to God, ¹³ while, through the proof of this ministry, they ^(J)glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal ^(K)sharing with them and all men, ¹⁴ and by their prayer for you, who long for you because of the exceeding ^(L)grace of God in you. ¹⁵ Thanks be to God ^(M)for His indescribable gift!

^41 (A)“I do not receive honor from men.

¹⁷ But ^(A)whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?

¹⁸ My little children, ^(B)let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ And by this we ^[a]know ^(C)that we are of the truth, and shall ^[b]assure our hearts before Him.

^15 (A)If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and ^(B)one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?

^16 (A)But do not forget to do good and to share, for ^(B)with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

^46 (A)“Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, ^(B)love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts,
