¹⁸ so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.^(A)

⁶ But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father,^(A) who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

⁴ so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.^(A)

¹⁸ For it is not the one who commends himself^(A) who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.^(B)

²² Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. ²³ Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, ²⁴ since you know that you will receive an inheritance^(A) from the Lord as a reward.^(B) It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

⁹ So we make it our goal to please him,^(A) whether we are at home in the body or away from it.

¹³ Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority:^(A) whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority,

⁷ These have come so that the proven genuineness^(A) of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire^(B)—may result in praise, glory and honor^(C) when Jesus Christ is revealed.^(D)

⁶ God “will repay each person according to what they have done.”^[a](A)
