¹⁷ But when you fast, ^(A)anoint your head and wash your face,

^3 (A)Wash therefore and anoint yourself, and put on your cloak and go down to the threshing floor, but do not make yourself known to the man until he has finished eating and drinking.

^8 (A)Let your garments be always white. Let not ^(B)oil be lacking on your head.

² In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for ^(A)three weeks. ³ I ate no delicacies, no meat or wine entered my mouth, nor did I ^(B)anoint myself at all, for ^(C)the full three weeks.

²⁰ Then David arose from the earth ^(A)and washed and anointed himself and changed his clothes. And he went into the house of the Lord ^(B)and worshiped. He then went to his own house. And when he asked, they set food before him, and he ate.

² And Joab sent to ^(A)Tekoa and brought from there a wise woman and said to her, “Pretend to be a mourner and put on mourning garments. ^(B)Do not anoint yourself with oil, but behave like a woman who has been mourning many days for the dead.
