² And after fasting ^(A)forty days and forty nights, he ^(B)was hungry.

^28 (A)So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. And he ^(B)wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.^[a]

⁸ And he arose and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food ^(A)forty days and forty nights to ^(B)Horeb, the mount of God.

¹⁸ Then I ^(A)lay prostrate before the Lord ^(B)as before, forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all the sin that you had committed, ^(C)in doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord to provoke him to anger.

^9 (A)When I went up the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that the Lord made with you, I remained on the mountain ^(B)forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water.

⁶ Jacob's well was there; so Jesus, ^(A)wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.^[a]

² for ^(A)forty days, ^(B)being tempted by the devil. ^(C)And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, ^(D)he was hungry.

^18 (A)I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. ^(B)And I will put my words in his mouth, and ^(C)he shall speak to them all that I command him.

¹⁸ Moses entered the cloud and went up on the mountain. And Moses ^(A)was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

¹⁴ Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise ^(A)partook of the same things, that ^(B)through death he might ^(C)destroy ^(D)the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, ¹⁵ and deliver all those who ^(E)through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery. ¹⁶ For surely it is not angels that he helps, but he ^(F)helps the offspring of Abraham. ¹⁷ Therefore he had ^(G)to be made like his brothers in every respect, ^(H)so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest ^(I)in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.
