The Ministry of Jesus Begins

¹² When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he left Judea and returned to Galilee.

¹⁴ Later on, after John was arrested, Jesus went into Galilee, where he preached God’s Good News.^[a]

²⁰ So Herod put John in prison, adding this sin to his many others.

³ For Herod had arrested and imprisoned John as a favor to his wife Herodias (the former wife of Herod’s brother Philip).

Jesus Rejected at Nazareth

¹⁴ Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power. Reports about him spread quickly through the whole region.

²⁴ (This was before John was thrown into prison.)

¹⁷ For Herod had sent soldiers to arrest and imprison John as a favor to Herodias. She had been his brother Philip’s wife, but Herod had married her.

⁵⁴ This was the second miraculous sign Jesus did in Galilee after coming from Judea.

Jesus Heals an Official’s Son

⁴³ At the end of the two days, Jesus went on to Galilee.
