Satan Tempts Jesus^(A)

4 Then ^(B)Jesus was led up by ^(C)the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

^18 (A)For in that He Himself has suffered, being ^[a]tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.

4 Then ^(B)Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and ^(C)was led by the Spirit ^[a]into the wilderness, ² being ^[b]tempted for forty days by the devil. And ^(D)in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.

³ And the devil said to Him, “If You are ^(E)the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”

⁴ But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ^(F)‘Man shall not live by bread alone, ^[c]but by every word of God.’ ”

^5 [d]Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. ⁶ And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for ^(G)this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. ⁷ Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.”

⁸ And Jesus answered and said to him, ^[e]“Get behind Me, Satan! ^[f]For it is written, ^(H)‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”

^9 (I)Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. ¹⁰ For it is written:

¹¹ and,

¹² And Jesus answered and said to him, “It has been said, ^(L)‘You shall not ^[g]tempt the Lord your God.’ ”

¹³ Now when the devil had ended every ^[h]temptation, he departed from Him ^(M)until an opportune time.

Satan Tempts Jesus^(A)

^12 (B)Immediately the Spirit ^[a]drove Him into the wilderness. ¹³ And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; ^(C)and the angels ministered to Him.

Jesus Begins His Galilean Ministry^(D)

^14 (E)Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, ^(F)preaching the gospel ^[b]of the kingdom of God, ¹⁵ and saying, ^(G)“The time is fulfilled, and ^(H)the kingdom of God ^[c]is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

¹⁵ For ^(A)we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but ^(B)was in all points tempted as we are, ^(C)yet without sin. ^16 (D)Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

¹⁴ For ^(A)as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

^5 (A)The Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, ^(B)the glory of the Lord filled the ^[a]temple.

³⁰ I will no longer talk much with you, ^(A)for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has ^(B)nothing in Me.

¹⁴ So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the ^[a]heat of my spirit; but ^(A)the hand of the Lord was strong upon me.
