The Baptism of Jesus

¹³ Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him.^(A)

³² And John testified, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him.^{(A) 33} I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’^{(B) 34} And I myself have seen and have testified that this is the Chosen One.”^[a]

⁹ In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.^{(A) 10} And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove upon him.^{(B) 11} And a voice came from the heavens, “You are my Son, the Beloved;^[a] with you I am well pleased.”^(C)

²¹ Now when all the people were baptized and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened,^{(A) 22} and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my Son, the Beloved;^[a] with you I am well pleased.”^[b](B)

²² But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And after being warned in a dream, he went away to the district of Galilee.^(A)
