⁶ He is not here, for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he^[a] lay.^(A)

⁶ But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him.^(A)

⁴⁰ For just as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster, so for three days and three nights the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth.^(A)

⁶ Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee,^{(A) 7} that the Son of Man must be handed over to the hands of sinners and be crucified and on the third day rise again.” ⁸ Then they remembered his words,^(B)

Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

²¹ From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and undergo great suffering at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes and be killed and on the third day be raised.^(A)

²³ and when they did not find his body there they came back and told us that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who said that he was alive.

⁴ The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. ⁵ He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in.^{(A) 6} Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, ⁷ and the cloth that had been on Jesus’s head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. ⁸ Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed,^{(B) 9} for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.^(C)

⁴⁴ Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.”^(A)

⁶³ and said, “Sir, we remember what that impostor said while he was still alive, ‘After three days I will rise again.’^(A)

¹⁹ Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”^(A)
