⁵² and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead.

¹⁴ For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.

²⁰ But in fact, Christ has been raised from the dead. He is the first of a great harvest of all who have died.

²⁵ “And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it’s here now, when the dead will hear my voice—the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live. ²⁶ The Father has life in himself, and he has granted that same life-giving power to his Son. ²⁷ And he has given him authority to judge everyone because he is the Son of Man.^{[a] 28} Don’t be so surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God’s Son, ²⁹ and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment.

² Many of those whose bodies lie dead and buried will rise up, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting disgrace.

¹⁰ Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever.

⁵¹ But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed!
