³³ At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.^{(B) 34} And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).^[a](C)

⁴⁴ It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon,^{(B) 45} for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple^(C) was torn in two.^(D)

² When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace.^(A) The sun and sky were darkened^(B) by the smoke from the Abyss.^(C)
