³⁸ Then two ^(A)robbers were crucified with him, ^(B)one on the right and one on the left.

^18 (A)There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, and Jesus between them.

Jesus' Side Is Pierced

³¹ Since it was ^(A)the day of Preparation, and ^(B)so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was ^(C)a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away. ³² So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other ^(D)who had been crucified with him. ³³ But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. ³⁴ But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out ^(E)blood and water. ^35 (F)He who saw it has borne witness—^(G)his testimony is true, and he knows that he is telling the truth—^(H)that you also may believe.

^32 (A)Two others, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him. ^33 (B)And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, ^(C)one on his right and one on his left.

^39 (A)One of the criminals who were hanged ^(B)railed at him,^[a] saying, “Are you not ^(C)the Christ? Save yourself and us!” ⁴⁰ But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? ⁴¹ And we indeed justly, for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong.” ⁴² And he said, “Jesus, remember me ^(D)when you come into your kingdom.” ⁴³ And he said to him, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in ^(E)paradise.”

²⁷ And with him they crucified two ^(A)robbers, ^(B)one on his right and one on his left.^[a]

^44 (A)And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.

³⁷ For I tell you that ^(A)this Scripture must be fulfilled in me: ^(B)‘And he was numbered with the transgressors.’ For ^(C)what is written about me has its fulfillment.”
