²⁹ and after twisting some thorns into a crown they put it on his head. They put a reed in his right hand and knelt before him and mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”^(A)

¹⁹ then they will hand him over to the gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and on the third day he will be raised.”^(A)

¹⁸ And they began saluting him, “Hail, King of the Jews!”

² looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith, who for the sake of^[a] the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.^(A)

³ Consider him who endured such hostility against himself from sinners,^[b] so that you may not grow weary in your souls or lose heart.^(B)

² And the soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they dressed him in a purple robe.^{(A) 3} They kept coming up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and striking him on the face.^(B)

³⁶ The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine^{(A) 37} and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!”

³⁷ Over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.”

⁴⁹ At once he came up to Jesus and said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him.^(A)
