⁵⁶ But all this has taken place, so that the scriptures of the prophets may be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples deserted him and fled.^(A)

The Shepherd Struck, the Flock Scattered

³² The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each one to his home, and you will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me.^(A)

⁵⁰ All of them deserted him and fled.^(A)

⁵¹ A certain young man was following him, wearing nothing but a linen cloth. They caught hold of him, ⁵² but he left the linen cloth and ran off naked.

Peter’s Denial Foretold

³¹ Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away^[a] because of me this night, for it is written,

⁵⁴ But how then would the scriptures be fulfilled, which say it must happen in this way?”^(A)

¹⁶ At my first defense no one came to my support, but all deserted me. May it not be counted against them!

Peter Denies Jesus

¹⁵ Simon Peter and another disciple followed Jesus. Since that disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest,^{(A) 16} but Peter was standing outside at the gate. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out, spoke to the woman who guarded the gate, and brought Peter in.
