³⁷ He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee^(A) along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled.

²¹ Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John.^(A) They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them,

17 After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John^(C) the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.

³⁷ He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.^(A)

³³ He took Peter, James and John^(A) along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. ³⁴ “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death,”^(B) he said to them. “Stay here and keep watch.”

²⁷ “Now my soul is troubled,^(A) and what shall I say? ‘Father,^(B) save me from this hour’?^(C) No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.

⁴⁴ And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.^[a]

A Mother’s Request^(A)

²⁰ Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons^(B) came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down,^(C) asked a favor of him.

Jesus Calls His First Disciples^(A)

¹⁸ As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee,^(B) he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter^(C) and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.
