² Five of them were foolish, and five were ^(A)wise.

² One basket had very good figs, ^(A)like first-ripe figs, but the other basket had ^(B)very bad figs, so bad that they could not be eaten.

^19 (A)They went out from us, but they were not of us; for ^(B)if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, ^(C)that it might become plain that they all are not of us.

Warning Against Idolatry

10 For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers,^[a] that our fathers were all under ^(A)the cloud, and all ^(B)passed through the sea, ² and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, ³ and ^(C)all ate the same ^(D)spiritual food, ⁴ and ^(E)all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. ⁵ Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for ^(F)they were overthrown^[b] in the wilderness.

³⁸ The field is the world, and the good seed is ^(A)the sons of the kingdom. The weeds are ^(B)the sons of the evil one, ³⁹ and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. ^(C)The harvest is ^(D)the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. ⁴⁰ Just as the weeds ^(E)are gathered and burned with fire, so will it be at ^(F)the end of the age. ^41 (G)The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all ^(H)causes of sin and ^(I)all law-breakers, ^42 (J)and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place ^(K)there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. ⁴³ Then ^(L)the righteous will shine like the sun ^(M)in the kingdom of their Father. ^(N)He who has ears, let him hear.

¹⁹ When anyone hears the word of ^(A)the kingdom and ^(B)does not understand it, ^(C)the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path. ²⁰ As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately ^(D)receives it with joy, ²¹ yet he has no root in himself, but ^(E)endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately ^(F)he falls away.^{[a] 22} As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but ^(G)the cares of ^(H)the world and ^(I)the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. ²³ As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and ^(J)understands it. He indeed ^(K)bears fruit and yields, in one case ^(L)a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”

Build Your House on the Rock

^24 (A)“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like ^(B)a wise man who built his house on the rock. ²⁵ And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. ²⁶ And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like ^(C)a foolish man who built his house on the sand. ²⁷ And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

⁵ Now I want ^(A)to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that ^(B)Jesus, who saved^[a] a people out of the land of Egypt, ^(C)afterward destroyed those who did not believe.
