¹⁶ the one who had received the five talents went off and traded with them and made five more talents.

⁵ Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the brothers and sisters, even though they are strangers to you;^{(A) 6} they have testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on in a manner worthy of God,^{(B) 7} for they began their journey for the sake of Christ,^[a] accepting no support from nonbelievers.^{[b](C) 8} Therefore we ought to support such people, so that we may become coworkers with the truth.

⁶ I pray that the partnership of your faith may become effective as you comprehend all the good that we^[a] share in Christ.^{[b] 7} I have^[c] indeed received much joy and encouragement from your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, my brother.^(A)

⁵ As for you, be sober in everything, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, carry out your ministry fully.^(A)

⁶ As for me, I am already being poured out as a libation, and the time of my departure has come.^{(B) 7} I have fought the good fight; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.^{(C) 8} From now on there is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.^(D)

⁶ It is the farmer who does the work who ought to have the first share of the crops.

¹⁷ As for those who in the present age are rich, command them not to be haughty or to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches but rather on God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.^{(A) 18} They are to do good, to be rich in good works, generous, and ready to share,^(B)

¹⁶ If I proclaim the gospel, this gives me no ground for boasting, for an obligation is laid on me, and woe to me if I do not proclaim the gospel! ¹⁷ For if I do this of my own will, I have a wage, but if not of my own will, I am entrusted with a commission.^{(A) 18} What then is my wage? Just this: that in my proclamation I may make the gospel free of charge, so as not to make full use of my rights in the gospel.

¹⁹ For though I am free with respect to all, I have made myself a slave to all, so that I might gain all the more.^{(B) 20} To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to gain Jews. To those under the law I became as one under the law (though I myself am not under the law) so that I might gain those under the law. ²¹ To those outside the law I became as one outside the law (though I am not outside God’s law but am within Christ’s law) so that I might gain those outside the law.^{(C) 22} To the weak I became weak, so that I might gain the weak. I have become all things to all people, that I might by all means save some. ²³ I do it all for the sake of the gospel, so that I might become a partner in it.

¹⁸ For I will not be so bold as to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to win obedience from the gentiles, by word and deed, ¹⁹ by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit,^[a] so that from Jerusalem and as far around as Illyricum I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.^(A)
