³⁷ For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.^(A)

²⁶ Just as it was in the days of Noah, so, too, it will be in the days of the Son of Man.^{(A) 27} They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage until the day Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed all of them.

The Wickedness of Humans

6 When people began to multiply on the face of the ground, and daughters were born to them,^{(A) 2} the sons of God saw that they were fair, and they took wives for themselves of all that they chose.^{(B) 3} Then the Lord said, “My spirit shall not abide^[a] in mortals forever, for they are flesh; their days shall be one hundred twenty years.”^{(C) 4} The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went in to the daughters of humans, who bore children to them. These were the heroes that were of old, warriors of renown.

⁵ The Lord saw that the wickedness of humans was great in the earth and that every inclination of the thoughts of their hearts was only evil continually.^{(D) 6} And the Lord was sorry that he had made humans on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.^{(E) 7} So the Lord said, “I will blot out from the earth the humans I have created—people together with animals and creeping things and birds of the air—for I am sorry that I have made them.”

⁵ and if he did not spare the ancient world, even though he saved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood on the world of the ungodly;^(A)

⁷ By faith Noah, warned by God about events as yet unseen, respected the warning and built an ark to save his household; by this he condemned the world and became an heir to the righteousness that is in accordance with faith.^(A)

⁶ through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished.^(A)

³⁹ and they knew nothing until the flood came and swept them all away, so, too, will be the coming of the Son of Man.

²⁰ who in former times did not obey, when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight lives, were saved through water.^{(A) 21} And baptism, which this prefigured, now saves you—not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for^[a] a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,^(B)

⁶ Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters came on the earth. ⁷ And Noah with his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives went into the ark to escape the waters of the flood.^{(A) 8} Of clean animals and of animals that are not clean and of birds and of everything that creeps on the ground, ⁹ two and two, male and female, went into the ark with Noah, as God had commanded Noah. ¹⁰ And after seven days the waters of the flood came on the earth.
