^27 (A)For as the lightning comes from the east and shines as far as the west, so will be ^(B)the coming of the Son of Man.

^24 (A)For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be ^(B)in his day.^{[a] 25} But first ^(C)he must suffer many things and ^(D)be rejected by this generation. ^26 (E)Just as it was in the days of ^(F)Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. ^27 (G)They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise, just as it was in the days of ^(H)Lot—they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, ^29 (I)but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all— ³⁰ so will it be ^(J)on the day when the Son of Man is revealed. ³¹ On that day, ^(K)let the one who is on ^(L)the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away, and likewise let the one who is in the field not turn back. ^32 (M)Remember Lot's wife. ^33 (N)Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will ^(O)keep it. ³⁴ I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be taken and the other left. ^35 (P)There will be two women ^(Q)grinding together. One will be taken and the other left.”^{[b] 37} And they said to him, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, ^(R)“Where the corpse^[c] is, there the vultures^[d] will gather.”

^4 (A)They will say, “Where is the promise of ^(B)his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.”

⁸ You also, be patient. ^(A)Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord ^(B)is at hand.

³⁹ and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, ^(A)so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

^37 (A)For as were the days of Noah, ^(B)so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

²⁸ Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not ^(A)taste death ^(B)until they see the Son of Man ^(C)coming in his kingdom.”

^5 (A)“Behold, I will send you ^(B)Elijah the prophet ^(C)before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.

² But ^(A)who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For ^(B)he is like a refiner's fire and like fullers' soap.
