¹⁵ “The day is coming when you will see what Daniel the prophet spoke about—the sacrilegious object that causes desecration^[a] standing in the Holy Place.” (Reader, pay attention!)

²⁷ The ruler will make a treaty with the people for a period of one set of seven,^[a] but after half this time, he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. And as a climax to all his terrible deeds,^[b] he will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration,^[c] until the fate decreed for this defiler is finally poured out on him.”

¹⁴ “The day is coming when you will see the sacrilegious object that causes desecration^[a] standing where he^[b] should not be.” (Reader, pay attention!) “Then those in Judea must flee to the hills.

¹¹ “From the time the daily sacrifice is stopped and the sacrilegious object that causes desecration^[a] is set up to be worshiped, there will be 1,290 days.

²⁰ “And when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then you will know that the time of its destruction has arrived.

³¹ “His army will take over the Temple fortress, pollute the sanctuary, put a stop to the daily sacrifices, and set up the sacrilegious object that causes desecration.^[a]

³ God blesses the one who reads the words of this prophecy to the church, and he blesses all who listen to its message and obey what it says, for the time is near.

²⁵ Now listen and understand! Seven sets of seven plus sixty-two sets of seven^[a] will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until a ruler—the Anointed One^[b]—comes. Jerusalem will be rebuilt with streets and strong defenses,^[c] despite the perilous times.

⁴³ Before long your enemies will build ramparts against your walls and encircle you and close in on you from every side.

¹² Then he said, “Don’t be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day you began to pray for understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your request has been heard in heaven. I have come in answer to your prayer. ¹³ But for twenty-one days the spirit prince^[a] of the kingdom of Persia blocked my way. Then Michael, one of the archangels,^[b] came to help me, and I left him there with the spirit prince of the kingdom of Persia.^{[c] 14} Now I am here to explain what will happen to your people in the future, for this vision concerns a time yet to come.”
