¹⁰ Then many will fall away,^[a] and they will betray one another and hate one another.^(A)

¹⁷ But they have no root and endure only for a while; then, when trouble or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately they fall away.^[a]

¹⁶ At my first defense no one came to my support, but all deserted me. May it not be counted against them!

¹⁶ You will be betrayed even by parents and siblings, by relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death.^(A)

¹² Sibling will betray sibling to death and a father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death,^(A)

⁶ And blessed is anyone who takes no offense at me.”^(A)

Peter’s Denial Foretold

³¹ Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away^[a] because of me this night, for it is written,

³² “But after I am raised up, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.”^{(B) 33} Peter said to him, “Even if all fall away^[b] because of you, I will never fall away.”^{[c] 34} Jesus said to him, “Truly I tell you, this very night, before the cock crows, you will deny me three times.”^(C)
