³⁸ See, your house is left to you, desolate.^[a]

⁵ But if you will not heed these words, I swear by myself, says the Lord, that this house shall become a desolation.^(A)

³⁵ See, your house is left to you.^[a] And I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when^[b] you say, ‘Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.’ ”^(A)

²⁴ they will fall by the edge of the sword and be taken away as captives among all nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the nations, until the times of the nations are fulfilled.^(A)

¹³ They set up false witnesses who said, “This man never stops saying things against this holy place and the law,^{(A) 14} for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth^[a] will destroy this place and will change the customs that Moses handed on to us.”^(B)

The Destruction of Jerusalem Foretold

²⁰ “When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near.^[a](A)

⁶ “As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone will be left upon another; all will be thrown down.”^(A)

⁴³ Indeed, the days will come upon you when your enemies will set up ramparts around you and surround you and hem you in on every side.^{(A) 44} They will crush you to the ground, you and your children within you, and they will not leave within you one stone upon another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God.”^[a](B)

⁷ then I will cut Israel off from the land that I have given them, and the house that I have consecrated for my name I will cast out of my sight, and Israel will become a proverb and a taunt among all peoples.^(A)
