^34 (A)Therefore ^(B)I send you ^(C)prophets and wise men and ^(D)scribes, ^(E)some of whom you will kill and crucify, and ^(F)some you will ^(G)flog in your synagogues and ^(H)persecute from town to town,

Persecution Will Come

^16 (A)“Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be ^(B)wise as serpents and ^(C)innocent as doves. ¹⁷ Beware of men, for ^(D)they will deliver you over to courts and flog you ^(E)in their synagogues,

⁵² And he said to them, “Therefore every ^(A)scribe ^(B)who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who ^(C)brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”

²⁸ Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that ^(A)we may present everyone ^(B)mature in Christ.

Barnabas and Saul Sent Off

13 Now there were in the church at Antioch ^(A)prophets and ^(B)teachers, ^(C)Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger,^[a] Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of ^(D)Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

²³ When they ^(A)persecute you in one town, ^(B)flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel ^(C)before the Son of Man comes.

¹⁰ and ^(A)those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and make merry and ^(B)exchange presents, because these two prophets ^(C)had been a torment to those who dwell on the earth.

^37 (A)They were stoned, they were sawn in two,^{[a] (B)}they were killed with the sword. ^(C)They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated—

⁸ Therefore it says,

⁹ (^(C)In saying, “He ascended,” what does it mean but that he had also descended into ^(D)the lower regions, the earth?^{[b] 10} He who descended is the one who also ^(E)ascended ^(F)far above all the heavens, that he might ^(G)fill all things.) ¹¹ And ^(H)he gave the ^(I)apostles, the prophets, the ^(J)evangelists, the ^(K)shepherds^[c] and teachers,^{[d] 12 (L)}to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for ^(M)building up ^(N)the body of Christ,
