34 And when Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” (A)And after that no one dared to ask him any more questions.

And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, (A)“Let him who is without sin among you (B)be the first to throw a stone at her.” And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.

(A)Why, when I came, was there no man;
    why, when I called, was there no one to answer?
(B)Is my hand shortened, that it cannot redeem?
    Or have I no power to deliver?
(C)Behold, by my rebuke (D)I dry up the sea,
    (E)I make the rivers a desert;
(F)their fish stink for lack of water

    the tongue of those who are taught,

    and my cheeks to those who pull out the beard;

    therefore I have not been disgraced;
(N)therefore I have set my face like a flint,
    and I know that I shall not be put to shame.

    Let us stand up together.
Who is my adversary?
    Let him come near to me.
(P)Behold, the Lord God helps me;
    who will declare me guilty?
Behold, all of them will wear out like a garment;
    the moth will eat them up.

    because they stand there, and answer no more?
