³ He sent his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding banquet, but they would not come.^(A)

²¹ But of Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”^(A)

⁴⁰ Yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and blaspheming, they contradicted what was spoken by Paul.^(A)

²⁷ But as for these enemies of mine who did not want me to rule over them—bring them here and slaughter them in my presence.’ ”

²⁸ Then he became angry and refused to go in. His father came out and began to plead with him.

The Parable of the Great Dinner

¹⁵ One of the dinner guests, on hearing this, said to him, “Blessed is anyone who will eat bread in the kingdom of God!”^{(A) 16} Then Jesus^[a] said to him, “Someone gave a great dinner and invited many. ¹⁷ At the time for the dinner he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come, for everything is ready now.’^(B)

³⁴ Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!^(A)

The Mission of the Twelve

9 Then Jesus^[a] called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases,^{(A) 2} and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.^{(B) 3} He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey: no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money—not even an extra tunic.^{(C) 4} Whatever house you enter, stay there, and leave from there. ⁵ Wherever they do not welcome you, as you are leaving that town shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”^{(D) 6} So they departed and went through the villages, bringing the good news and curing diseases everywhere.
