⁹ And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius.

^8 (A)For by grace you have been saved ^(B)through faith, and that not of yourselves; ^(C)it is the gift of God, ⁹ not of ^(D)works, lest anyone should ^(E)boast. ¹⁰ For we are ^(F)His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

³ For what does the Scripture say? ^(A)“Abraham believed God, and it was ^[a]accounted to him for righteousness.” ⁴ Now ^(B)to him who works, the wages are not counted ^[b]as grace but as debt.

David Celebrates the Same Truth

⁵ But to him who ^(C)does not work but believes on Him who justifies ^(D)the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, ⁶ just as David also ^(E)describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:

² Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

^14 (A)And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, ^(B)with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. ^15 (C)This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that ^(D)Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. ¹⁶ However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life.

⁶ to the praise of the glory of His grace, ^(A)by which He ^[a]made us accepted in ^(B)the Beloved.

^7 (C)In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to ^(D)the riches of His grace ⁸ which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and ^[b]prudence,

²⁰ Moreover ^(A)the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace ^(B)abounded much more, ²¹ so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁴⁰ But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? ⁴¹ And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done ^(A)nothing wrong.” ⁴² Then he said ^[a]to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”

⁴³ And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in ^(B)Paradise.”

⁶ And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing ^[a]idle, and said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here idle all day?’ ⁷ They said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, ^[b]and whatever is right you will receive.’
