²⁵ But Jesus called them to him and said, ^(A)“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles ^(B)lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.

^25 (A)And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles ^(B)exercise lordship over them, and those in authority over them are called benefactors. ^26 (C)But not so with you. Rather, let ^(D)the greatest among you become as the youngest, and the leader as one who serves. ²⁷ For who is the greater, ^(E)one who reclines at table or one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at table? But ^(F)I am among you as the one who serves.

²⁵ But Jesus called them to him and said, ^(A)“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles ^(B)lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. ^26 (C)It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant,^{[a] 27} and whoever would be first among you must be your slave,^{[b] 28} even as the Son of Man came not to be served but ^(D)to serve, and ^(E)to give his life as a ransom for ^(F)many.”

¹² When he had washed their feet and ^(A)put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, ^(B)“Do you understand what I have done to you? ^13 (C)You call me ^(D)Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. ¹⁴ If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, ^(E)you also ought to wash one another's feet. ¹⁵ For I have given you an example, ^(F)that you also should do just as I have done to you. ¹⁶ Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(G)a servant^[a] is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. ¹⁷ If you know these things, ^(H)blessed are you if you do them.

^42 (A)And Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles ^(B)lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them.

³ and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you ^(A)turn and ^(B)become like children, you ^(C)will never enter the kingdom of heaven. ^4 (D)Whoever humbles himself like this child is the ^(E)greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you, and ^(A)learn from me, for I am ^(B)gentle and lowly in heart, and ^(C)you will find rest for your souls.

¹⁹ And because of the greatness that he gave him, ^(A)all peoples, nations, and languages ^(B)trembled and feared before him. Whom he would, he killed, and whom he would, he kept alive; whom he would, he raised up, and whom he would, he humbled.

¹² Because of this the king was angry and ^(A)very furious, and ^(B)commanded that all ^(C)the wise men of Babylon be destroyed. ¹³ So the decree went out, and the wise men were about to be killed; and they sought ^(D)Daniel and his companions, to kill them.
