¹⁴ Take ^(A)what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you.

² since ^(A)you have given him authority over all flesh, ^(B)to give eternal life to all ^(C)whom you have given him.

³¹ And he said to him, ‘Son, ^(A)you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever ^(A)the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, ^(B)so that every mouth may be stopped, and ^(C)the whole world may be held accountable to God.

⁴ By no means! ^(A)Let God be true though ^(B)every one were a liar, as it is written,

Fasting

¹⁶ “And ^(A)when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. ^(B)Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

⁶ But when you pray, ^(A)go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. ^(B)And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

^18 (A)“Son of man, ^(B)Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made his army labor hard against Tyre. Every head was made bald, and every shoulder was rubbed bare, yet neither he nor his army got anything from Tyre to pay for the labor that he had performed against her. ¹⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord God: ^(C)Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; ^(D)and he shall carry off its wealth^{[a] (E)}and despoil it and plunder it; and it shall be the wages for his army. ^20 (F)I have given him the land of Egypt as his payment for which he labored, because they worked for me, declares the Lord God.

³⁰ And the Lord said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in carrying out what is right in my eyes, and have done to the house of Ahab according to all that was in my heart, ^(A)your sons of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.” ³¹ But Jehu was not careful to walk in the law of the Lord, the God of Israel, with all his heart. ^(B)He did not turn from the sins of Jeroboam, which he made Israel to sin.
