⁴ and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where ^(A)the Christ was to be born.

⁹ Then a great clamor arose, and some of ^(A)the scribes of the Pharisees' party stood up and contended sharply, ^(B)“We find nothing wrong in this man. What ^(C)if a spirit or an angel spoke to him?”

¹² And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes, and they came upon him and seized him and brought him before the council,

Officers Sent to Arrest Jesus

³² The Pharisees heard the crowd ^(A)muttering these things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent ^(B)officers to arrest him.

¹⁰ Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel ^(A)and yet you do not understand these things?

¹⁰ The chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing him.

Paying Taxes to Caesar

^19 (A)The scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him at that very hour, for they perceived that he had told this parable against them, but they feared the people.
