^20 (A)saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who ^(B)sought the young Child’s life are dead.”

¹⁹ Now the Lord said to Moses in ^(A)Midian, “Go, return to ^(B)Egypt; for all the men who ^(C)sought your life are dead.”

The Flight into Egypt

¹³ Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word; for Herod will seek the young Child to destroy Him.”

⁴⁰ Solomon therefore sought to kill Jeroboam. But Jeroboam arose and fled to Egypt, to ^(A)Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.

^21 (A)So when Hadad heard in Egypt that David ^[a]rested with his fathers, and that Joab the commander of the army was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, ^[b]“Let me depart, that I may go to my own country.”

The Revolt Against Rehoboam^(A)

12 And ^(B)Rehoboam went to ^(C)Shechem, for all Israel had gone to Shechem to make him king. ² So it happened, when ^(D)Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard it (he was still in ^(E)Egypt, for he had fled from the presence of King Solomon and had been dwelling in Egypt), ³ that they sent and called him. Then Jeroboam and the whole assembly of Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
