¹⁰ When they saw that the star had stopped,^[a] they were overwhelmed with joy.

²⁰ The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, just as it had been told them.^(A)

¹⁰ But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for see, I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people:^(A)

⁹ and that the gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written,

¹⁰ and again he says,

¹¹ and again,

¹² and again Isaiah says,

¹³ May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.^(C)

⁴⁶ Then both Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, “It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken first to you. Since you reject it and judge yourselves to be unworthy of eternal life, we are now turning to the gentiles.^{(A) 47} For so the Lord has commanded us, saying,

⁴⁸ When the gentiles heard this, they were glad and praised the word of the Lord, and as many as had been destined for eternal life became believers.
