²⁰ The young man said to him, ^(A)“All these I have kept. What do I still lack?”

²⁴ So then, ^(A)the law was our ^(B)guardian until Christ came, ^(C)in order that we might be justified by faith.

^6 (A)as to zeal, ^(B)a persecutor of the church; ^(C)as to righteousness under the law,^[a] blameless.

²⁰ And he said to him, “Teacher, ^(A)all these I have kept from my youth.” ²¹ And Jesus, ^(B)looking at him, ^(C)loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, ^(D)sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have ^(E)treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”

⁹ I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever ^(A)the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, ^(B)so that every mouth may be stopped, and ^(C)the whole world may be held accountable to God. ²⁰ For ^(D)by works of the law no human being^[a] will be justified in his sight, since ^(E)through the law comes knowledge of sin.

The Righteousness of God Through Faith

²¹ But now ^(F)the righteousness of God ^(G)has been manifested apart from the law, although ^(H)the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— ²² the righteousness of God ^(I)through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. ^(J)For there is no distinction: ²³ for ^(K)all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

⁷ And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, ^(A)“Let him who is without sin among you ^(B)be the first to throw a stone at her.”

²¹ And he said, ^(A)“All these I have kept from my youth.” ²² When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. ^(B)Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have ^(C)treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”

¹¹ The Pharisee, ^(A)standing by himself, prayed^{[a] (B)}thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. ^12 (C)I fast twice a week; ^(D)I give tithes of all that I get.’
