¹⁷ So He said to him, ^[a]“Why do you call Me good? ^[b]No one is ^(A)good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, ^(B)keep the commandments.”

⁵ You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, which if a man does, he shall live by them: I am the Lord.

¹¹ But that no one is ^[a]justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for ^(A)“the just shall live by faith.” ¹² Yet ^(B)the law is not of faith, but ^(C)“the man who does them shall live by them.”

^13 (D)Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, ^(E)“Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),

²⁶ He said to him, “What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?”

²⁷ So he answered and said, ^(A)“ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ^(B)‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ”

²⁸ And He said to him, “You have answered rightly; do this and ^(C)you will live.”

⁵ For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, ^(A)“The man who does those things shall live by them.”

¹⁶ And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and ^(A)he who abides in love abides in God, and God ^(B)in him.

²¹ “Notwithstanding, ^(A)the children rebelled against Me; they did not walk in My statutes, and were not careful to observe My judgments, ^(B)‘which, if a man does, he shall live by them’; but they profaned My Sabbaths. Then I said I would pour out My fury on them and fulfill My anger against them in the wilderness.

^11 (A)And I gave them My statutes and ^[a]showed them My judgments, ^(B)‘which, if a man does, he shall live by them.’ ¹² Moreover I also gave them My ^(C)Sabbaths, to be a sign between them and Me, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them.
