⁹ And if your eye causes you to sin,^[a] tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into the hell^[b] of fire.^(A)

⁸ “If your hand or your foot causes you to sin,^[a] cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than to have two hands or two feet and to be thrown into the eternal fire.^(A)

²² There they strengthened the souls of the disciples and encouraged them to continue in the faith, saying, “It is through many persecutions that we must enter the kingdom of God.”^(A)

²⁹ If your right eye causes you to sin,^[a] tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.^[b](A)

²² But I say to you that if you are angry with a brother or sister,^[a] you will be liable to judgment, and if you insult^[b] a brother or sister, you will be liable to the council, and if you say, ‘You fool,’ you will be liable to the hell^[c] of fire.^(A)

²⁷ But nothing unclean will enter it, nor anyone who practices abomination or falsehood, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.^(A)

¹¹ Let us therefore make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fall through such disobedience as theirs.

²⁴ For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it.^{(A) 25} For what does it profit them if they gain the whole world but lose or forfeit themselves?^(B)

²³ Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven.^{(A) 24} Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”
